Do you still have a landline phone in your house?

Just renewing my broadband contract and my provider asked if I wanted to keep my landline number. I've not had a landline phone for at least 15, maybe 20 years.

So I'm conducting a highly scientific study by asking the Mumsnet universe-
Do you still have an actual physical landline phone which you still use?

I think we do on paper, but we haven't had a phone plugged in for more than ten years.

BT went digital and were meant to be 'sorting us out' but nothing happened so we left it. Realised after 2 years we were still paying for a phone line we couldn't use so cancelled it - saved £40 a quarter.

We couldn't even if we wanted to; new builds don't have phone jacks in them anymore.

No. We did until we had work done on the house a few years ago (we had to move out) and then we didn’t bother to use the landline after that. My husband is upstairs talking to his elderly mother on FaceTime as I talk and that actually is better than a traditional phone because she is hard of hearing and lip reading helps.

Yes. No idea why. Dh keeps it because his parents use it occasionally. They don't need to. I never give the number out. I don't think the children know what the number is and have never used it except for speaking the grandma occasionally. I'll happily ditch it when we renew contracts if I can persuade dh to.

Yes, I prefer it. More reliable and clearer to talk on. Also I can tuck it under my chin whilst talking and not cut people off! I sometimes sort washing out or do a bit of cleaning whilst on the phone, can't do that on my mobile (don't like speaker phone/headphones etc).

Yes we never make calls on it but we keep it for emergency in case we don't hear our mobiles/left them in another room.

My adult DS has it memorised since he was about 4years old and if his mobile battery goes flat, he can ring us from a friend's phone.

Yes, because our village has patchy phone signals. So it's a bit of a backup. If I lived in a town with good reception I don't think I'd pay for it. It's usually the hospital/drs etc that ring us on it.

Yes I have although I never use it to make calls, only to receive them. I keep it for use by older family and friends.

Talktalk 'upgraded' it to a Voice Over Internet Protocol line recently when I got a new router and now it's unreliable 🙄

I do but only because that's how it works in Spain when you get Internet, or it did 8 years ago when we moved in here. But never use it or give the number out. Sometimes get spam calls but just never even pick them up.

Yes, we kept it initially for when the DCs were starting to be old enough to be left at home alone for short periods but didn't have their own mobiles. Then it just rolled on. We were going to get rid of it when they switched us to the digital one but ended up keeping it again as part of the package with fibre. Don't use it though.

Yes , purely so my 90+ yr old MIL can ring my husband . I’ve personally not used it for about 10 yrs . It costs me £2.50 per month ( ish) .

No we haven't since we moved to this house 14 years ago. Prior to that no one called it except cold callers.

Nope. We got to the point the only people who called were junk calls and my granny. Then my granny started using my mobile and then died (she was 96) so we didn’t bother renewing it.

Yes because our reception is horrible and also I figure that if something happens to me my kid can use it to dial out without having to know my mobile code.
However, I only ever dial out on it, if it rings I never pick up as no one has the number except salesmen.
