I don't use me but I have a famous relative that was a pioneer in the film industry and just about every one is familiar with his work so that gets the spotlight off me but most find it interesting.

If it has to be me then I tell the story of how I managed to get taken up and did aerobatics with the Jordanian Falcons and flew the plane (Jordans version of the red arrows)

Edited

I am seething with envy re your plane ride
And v interested in your family fim pioneer; amazing!

I have two teeth missing on my bottom set on the right hand side. Nothing to do with losing them, I never had them in the first place. It’s hereditary to my Eastern European culture and my youngest dd will follow too as her X-rays show she won’t have teeth there either.

I ‘played’ the newborn baby of a character in a famous soap opera.

Eastenders?!

I don't have a middle name. I have a very long Christian name and my parents chose not to give me a middle name. My four siblings all have the traditional two names.

We gave both of our own children two names, the middle name after their grand parents and great grand parents. I always felt slightly odd for having no middle name.

I don't have one either. Made one up in high school as no one believed I didn't have one.

Treesandsheepeverywhere · 13/10/2024 00:59

My birthmark is a piercing in my armpit.
Discovered it when young and didn't think much of it.
Only when I got older, I started to realise how odd/unusual it is.

Every so often, I'll put a safety pin through it just to check and it never seals.

Berlinlover · 13/10/2024 01:01

I have an ileostomy.

As a trans man, people usually seem intrigued when I say that I was raised as a Jehovah's witness. I'd never go back, but they were there at a time in my childhood where me and my Mum needed a community and I'll always be grateful for that.

Also being trans and agreeing with GC people - you can't deny science and nobody else's rights should someone else's rights away.

Oh and if I concentrate, I can smell things that aren't there just using my memory. DW thinks I'm either crazy or making it up 😅

Oooh, I can do the smell thing too!

TeamPolin · 13/10/2024 06:57

I can balance a spoon on my nose.

I only grew three wisdom teeth. There's a blank space where the fourth one should be.

I've only grown two. On the top.
A previous dentist of mine thought that this is evolution gradually getting rid of the things as apparently they're pretty pointless

SeriousFaffing · 13/10/2024 07:17

Sethera · 12/10/2024 16:38

I purposely come out with something not very interesting or unusual for these, such as "I like old Hammer horror films" so they quickly move on to the next person.

@Sethera your comment makes me wonder if you’re someone well known.

autienotnaughty · 13/10/2024 07:25

I tested for Mensa at 15, I scored 148 and was invited to join.

Not sure what I would score now.

I have a pilot's license, just for fun.

Not that interesting, but it's all I've got.

Edited

That is really cool!
A lot of the people I work with have pilot's licenses and one of them has promised to take me up in his plane next spring, when the runway is finished at our workplace. He also said he can put the copilot controls back in so maybe I'll even get to fly it a little (which is exciting but also terrifying). I can't wait until the spring!

@YabaJaba so you saw the doors as well? 🤩

The ticket was only a couple of quid too. £3 I think.

How do you know this?

Have you done an ancestry DNA test thing, to see how far back it goes?

How interesting!

Sickle cell is a disease of the Mediterranean as well as Africa. It is not uncommon in Greece and Italy, Sardinia is a 'hot spot'.

I don' have much interesting about me but I did visit Ecuador and forget to go to the equator.

The first time a flew I was 16, alone and the flight was to Australia.

Lottemarine · 13/10/2024 07:45

I went to school with the band Muse and used to get free tickets to Glastonbury.

Huntingtons was in my family so I already knew about that and was going through the testing when I found out about the sickle cell.

My daughter had a blood test for another reason and they called her back in and said there was a genetic problem with her blood test. They told her she was a carrier for sickle cell. I then got tested to see if it was from me and it was.

Haven't done any DNA testing it might be interesting.

Just say something bog standard- "I've got that that stage of life where my answer is I had an exciting night last night because I fiubd the pair to a resident long term odd sock".

Or say something standard and exagerate it slightly if you want (just imagine you're posting on MN and trying not "out" yourself (😬). Something like "I've three cats named Isaac Mewton, Marie Purrie and William Shakespaw." When really you've one called Leo - if you're in work and a colleague later mentions it (unlikely!) just say you made it up because you hate those icebreakers. It'll be unlike they love them so much they are shocked.
