The chump has just put his 4.7 million pound house on the market. Isn't that mostly our money?

Don't get the logic

PortiasBiscuit · 09/10/2024 11:29

No, he earned that money. That’s how jobs and salaries work.

PortiasBiscuit · 09/10/2024 11:29

Even bad people get paid, sometimes over paid.

Pedallleur · 09/10/2024 11:31

his pension is allegedly 300k pa. is that our money? he worked for and was paid whatever the BBC paid him. Thats his. prob has to sell to pay for a move somewhere anonymous and/or a divorce

TickingAlongNicely · 09/10/2024 11:33

Morally reprehensible people are allowed to be rich.

Feelingstrange2 · 09/10/2024 11:35

If our judicial system decided that he was due to pay compensation then his victims will recieve that. End of.

I'm not sure why any other money he earned should be considered ours? The nation received his broadcasting services and he was paid for them. He bought a house. I assume its in London because now its worth a fortune - just like anyone who had bought that house. He probably has to sell to allow him and his ex wife to find two homes now. Not really anything to do with us . It shouldn't even be news.

DeireadhFomhair · 09/10/2024 11:36

Well I don't live in the UK so it's not my money, but I'd be very interested to know how you think it's your money? 😏

Moonshiners · 09/10/2024 11:36

That's weird logic.
Does that mean because I pay a season ticket to Man city I own the house is of the people who are well overpaid to play there?
Do we own part of the houses of the people who profit from Netflix?
Etc etc

Pinkandbluesocks · 09/10/2024 11:36

It's probably mostly unearned equity caused by property prices rising above inflation and the value of work done.

I guess the argument is that because it's the tv licence that pays for the BBC, it's our money, but that's the same as questioning how NHS staff spend their salaries

FuckThePoPo · 09/10/2024 11:38

I need a link to the house!

Yes, but that is our money. We paid for that loon, and his pension. I get cross about the BBC and all their horrid wrongdoings. How do they dare charge us?

itwasnevermine · 09/10/2024 11:41

@ruthgordon123 do you also get angry about NHS salaries and pensions? Teachers pensions, police, etc etc.?

Once the money has gone to the company, it's no longer taxpayer money.

Is ok for NHS staff to have computers full of child porn like HE was?

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 09/10/2024 11:47

Of course it's not "our money" 🙄

Is ok for NHS staff to have computers full of child porn like HE was?

That's a completely separate issue and totally irrelevant in the "our money" argument.

itwasnevermine · 09/10/2024 11:48

@ruthgordon123 where on EARTH did I say that? I didn't.

But if it's out money, do we all get a say on all of that? There are shit people in every profession. And it includes professions funded by the tax payer. But we don't get a say in what they do with the money. Their offending is separate to their salary.

Do you know what every NHS staffer has on their own computer?
You're being very naive. Yes, what he did was awful. Yes, the BBC could be better run. But he was paid a salary to do a job and he did it. He bought a house with his own (probably mortgaged) money, which is what nearly everyone else who buys a house does.

ButtSurgery · 09/10/2024 11:49

Ugh, reminds me of being in the Police and the "I pay your wages" pillocks. I'm still in public employment just not public facing any more thank goodness.

Do you have a problem with people like me paying our mortgages with our publicly funded wages too?

Pedallleur · 09/10/2024 11:51

MP's expenses, gold wallpaper all come out of taxpayer money. does the BBC still have a box at the RAH? if so, we all want in

It might be where his wife and children live. I think they’ve had enough, don’t you?

No, of course it isn’t okay; but it still doesn’t mean that the things they bought with the money they were paid for the work they did revert to the taxpayer.
