The chump has just put his 4.7 million pound house on the market. Isn't that mostly our money?

Yes, but that is our money. We paid for that loon, and his pension. I get cross about the BBC and all their horrid wrongdoings. How do they dare charge us?

There it is! #dailymail/sun/express reader mentality.

Congratulations for not being able to think critically and swallowing whatever twaddle some shit website, loons on FB or crappy excuse for a newspaper tells you.

If you don't want to, don't have a TV license. No one is holding a gun to your head to pay it?! Just have Netflix instead of other on demand services that aren't BBC. You won't have anything BBC including all programming, news and radio but since you hate it all so much I presume that won't bother you?

Technically we all pay the politicians salaries who run the country and have run it into the ground lately...i'd put my focus on that personally as it affects everything you do and the price of things you pay via the economy! Unless of course you have a particular agenda to attack the BBC? It makes a wonderful scape goat to detract from politicians wrong doings so I hear...

BobbyBiscuits · 09/10/2024 12:10

Hopefully a lot of the proceeds will go to his poor wife and kids. He's absolutely vile but I think to expect him to just give his house to the government as reparations for his crime is a bit far fetched. Not that I'd mind if there was a law that compelled such a situation.

DeireadhFomhair · 09/10/2024 11:48

Do you know what every NHS staffer has on their own computer?
You're being very naive. Yes, what he did was awful. Yes, the BBC could be better run. But he was paid a salary to do a job and he did it. He bought a house with his own (probably mortgaged) money, which is what nearly everyone else who buys a house does.

If you know that an NHS staffer has peodophlia on their computer it is your duty to call it in. I wouldn't name this naivety. I call you naive for expecting tax paying people to pay for this. You say 'his own money', he's a spray tan that follows words on cue. He got away without a custodial sentence because he didn't like his dad and didn't get in to Oxford. Give me a fucking break.

CwmYoy · 09/10/2024 12:12

He was handsomely paid because he was very good at his job. The best around.

It turns out he was a creep but that money was earned.

RosieCockle · 09/10/2024 12:17

You can't argue with stupid 🙄 what about J Jenas's mobile phone subscription? Do you want a refund on that as well?

DancingPhantomsOnTheTerrace · 09/10/2024 12:19

He got away without a custodial sentence because he didn't like his dad and didn't get in to Oxford.

No, he didn't. The man who sent him the images also got a suspended sentence.

If you say he got special treatment you ignore the larger problem of light sentences for crimes like these.

@ruthgordon123 What he did was gross and wrong. And he has rightly been prosecuted via criminal courts for it.

But what about all these Tory MPs from the last administration who have been involved with rape, sexual misconduct and sleaze amongst others. You realize you paid directly through your compulsory taxes their salaries? But yet this doesn't bother you, just one bad apple from the BBC you paid via a license fee which you don't even have to pay if you don't want to watch/listen to it. Talk about priorities?! Here's the list!

Morally reprehensible people are allowed to be rich.

In fact, the two very frequently seem to go hand in hand...

Yancy · 09/10/2024 12:27

His wife is a well-respected TV editor who probably earns very well and likely contributed to the house significantly as well as raising 5 kids. I think if as an innocent woman you would be expected to give up your wealth because your husband turned out to be a nonce is just fanciful. The house is probably being sold to settle a pending divorce. Poor woman literally was left sorting everything out. It is a shame she couldn’t have him permanently sectioned.

Silvers11 · 09/10/2024 12:28

FuckThePoPo · 09/10/2024 11:38

I need a link to the house!

@FuckThePoPo Think the family may be still living there and I really feel for his wife, so I'm not going to post the link, - but it's easy to find if you do some googling, if you are desperate......

SoupDragon · 09/10/2024 12:28

It's not difficult to find. I'm not going to post a link though.

Yes, this is it, basically. He was a very good, authoritative newsreader and journalist/commentator; I don't think anybody ever questioned his abilities there.

Until we bring in the Chinese-style social credit system (and it looks like it's slowly on its way), we can't start docking legitimately-earned money from people because of bad things that they've done away from the job.

I'm not even going to try anymore.

ruthgordon123 · 09/10/2024 12:34

Obviously the middle class do want the BBC. Personally I think the whole thing is vile. Having a government led tv isn't the best. And I think those in charge do have a gun to your head. It's a prison sentence not have a BBC licence. For women, unusually for men. Yes, generally women can't pay the fine because they have a lot of debt. But this is the one thing can land them in prison. Thanks for your feminism xx

Complain to the BBC, stop paying for a television licence (if it's appropriate), etc. As @PortiasBiscuit says, even bad people get paid, sometimes overpaid. It's not our money, it's his. But I agree that the BBC have many questions to answer as to how they valued him, and how much they knew.....

TheHangingGardensOfBasildon · 09/10/2024 12:39

I'm certainly not middle class and I see the BBC as an extremely flawed, shady organisation, which has got away with outrageous, disgusting things for decades.

I also find their propaganda on how balanced, trustworthy and truthful they supposedly are an astonishing lack of self-awareness/gaslighting.

But that's an entirely separate argument, surely, about the existence, management (historical and current) and funding of the BBC?

@Namechangey23 - that's a really useful point. And thank you posting the list - it makes very interesting reading.

friendlycat · 09/10/2024 12:40

His wife has a very successful career herself and will have paid half of that mortgage, together with raising their five children.

Understandably they are getting divorced having been separated for a while. The house is now being sold that she will have contributed heavily towards.

Nothing more, nothing less. It doesn't make HE's actions any less horrible but he's entitled to sell the house he has shared with his wife of many years.

What? No it's not. You guys are lucky that you have the option, don't watch bbc and don't have to pay TV licence.
in Ireland you have to have a TV licence if you have a TV at all - not just to watch state run TV channels.

... generally women can't pay the fine because they have a lot of debt.
Again, what?

Thanks for your feminism xx
Yet again, What???? What's that got to do with the price of cabbage? (As my old nan used to say).

As for not believing in state supported neutral broadcasting... look to the USA to see how that works out. Not well!

Nightowl1234 · 09/10/2024 12:49

@ruthgordon123 OP, are you one of those people who are always “fuming”…..? I can imagine you now in the Daily Mail, arms crossed with your “fuming at the BBC” face.

MrsSkylerWhite · 09/10/2024 12:50

Can’t imagine who on earth will want to buy it.
