How do you know that you are a woman?

Brilliant! 👏

RichmondReader · 06/10/2024 16:40

Not sure I respected any of them. But some admiration for parts of their work which has now been overshadowed by general disdain.

Al Pacino for having a baby at 83 - selfish

Daniel Radcliffe for all the reasons mentioned. For some reason he seems even more sanctimonious than the rest of them

Sandi T - agree

Oprah - it wasn't even an interview - just an orchestrated fawning fest. She should be ashamed at her lack of authenticity and complete loss of integrity.

Maybe we should go back to having racist jokes on the TV because uou hate whatever being woke js but as Cathy Burke sys rather be woke then an arsehole

I think the point that lots of posters are making is that the two aren’t mutually exclusive. Many celebs have used their platform to show they can be both woke and an arsehole, ignoring the nuances in any conversation about big issues in order to hit the popular opinion, to build their own profile.

Someone I disagree with but who can listen and discuss the points? Great. Someone who just says NO DEBATE, whatever the topic? Not helping anything, however “right” they might be in years to come.

FrostFlowers2025 · 06/10/2024 16:45

Johnny Depp.

I used to enjoy his movies, but these days I can't stand the sight or the sound of him. Abusive, useless, washed-up, has-been. Torpedoed his own career with booze and drugs then tries to blame in on his ex and sets the men's rights movement lose up her, setting women's progress in battling spousal abuse back by decades.

🤮

HoneyMonster1’s gone quiet since NewGreenDuck posed that excellent question.

flyingbuttress43 · 06/10/2024 16:51

I wonder how many of these celebs 'supporting' trans children who end having surgical or medical interventions and regretting what they have done to their bodies, will have the guts to acknowledge they have been complicit in what we are finally acknowledging to be one of the biggest medical scandals of our age.

@Hunnymonster1

Emma Watson is a big feminist and has done a lot for women -- so what? So she can't be a misogynist?

Jimmy Saville is a big child wellbeing fan and has done so much for children's wellbeing, bringing their dreams to life, helping children sick in hospital, dying of terminal diseases.

He's also a paedophile.

None of his good deeds make him not a paedophile.

You do know Saville is dead?

Laurence Fox, always liked the Fox family for their acting. He was so anti Covid and thought he was above the law. Also many other bits he has spoken out on or protests he joins

Loved him in Lewis and then obviously thought he was like his lovely character in real life.
Not so much, then….

I would say checkmate to NewGreenDuck. Just kicking myself I didn’t ask that question, it was a stroke of genius. I am actually genuinely hoping HoneyMonster gives a well thought out response as it’s actually an important question and deserves a good answer.

localnotail · 06/10/2024 16:55

Eddie Izzard - I used to think he was so cool, but now think he is self absorbed and not very bright - he's just embarrassing

Johnny Depp - did not age well at all, turned into a bloated creep

Russell brand. For all the many obvious reasons

I always thought he was a twat so nothing to lose.

I'm going to guess none of them, they will all just say "oh but I didn't mean it like that" "they didn't have to mutilate themselves" or some such nonsense.
Anyone who says a child is trans and fights for them to get medicated/surgically altered is a child abuser as far as I am concerned and anyone who agrees with that is just as bad!

FrostFlowers2025 · 06/10/2024 16:59

Also Micheal Jackson and Bono.

Jackson for being a predator and Bono for his hypocritical tax-dodging. Guess all those lyrics and charity work were just a smoke-screen for who he really is.

twilightermummy · 06/10/2024 14:09

William and Kate. They seem so bitchy, hard-faced, miserable, grasping and fake. Of course I wouldn't wish cancer upon anyone, let alone a young mum.

Morrissey - that one kills me!

I do find Leonardo DiCaprio's behaviour with women odd however, he is still my favourite actor and I find him mesmerising to watch. I was telling my children yesterday that he's been my lifelong love since 11 haha.

I think you've mixed William and Kate up with Harry and Meghan!!

Cesarina · 06/10/2024 17:03

I've read many, but not all, of the posts on this thread, so forgive me if this person has already been mentioned.
I voted Labour in the last GE - it was mainly a case of "anyone but the Tories" but I did see Keir Starmer as basically a really decent man.
He identifies himself as coming from a working-class background, and was obviously very intelligent and got to be DPP on merit, (I hope!). I did respect him.
But now I just can't get past the freebies he's accepted.
I can persuade myself to understand him accepting a seat in the Arsenal FC directors' box for his security.
But clothes and glasses?
I buy my own - why can't he, on the money he earns and wealth he has?
I have totally lost all respect for him now, and have found myself seriously wishing I'd not voted Labour.

taxguru · 06/10/2024 17:07

I have never had any respect for celebrities for their "day job". Far too many are self-obsessed and self absorbed. Far too many "slebs" who are just famous for being famous based often on nepotism rather than any genuine talent.

I reserve my respect for the ones who go above and beyond, i.e. genuine long term charity work (not just bunging a bit of money and doing publicity for a charity) - such as long term support, both financially and publicity-wise, fund raising, etc. Those who do it genuinely often aren't doing it just for the publicity, they're doing it because they genuinely want to do good.

I think I only genuinely "respect" maybe a dozen or so people in the big pool of sports personalities, politicians, pop/music stars, actors, etc. Most, I wouldn't give time of the day to!

Yep this. The description 'miserable, hard faced, bitchy, grasping, and fake' is way more suited to Harry and Meghan!

William and Kate are nothing like that. Confused

.

Lorrymum · 06/10/2024 17:08

Eddie Izzard and his alter ego Susie. I used to love his humour but he just irritates me now.

Yes, I struggle with Eddie Izzard now. Super annoying and ludicrous IMO.

Why would anyone respect a total stranger in the first place?

Surely most people are given a certain amount of respect until they lose it? Why would I not respect someone I'd not met or only just met?

Sdpbody · 06/10/2024 17:11

Any and all that have stated TWAW!!

I didn’t vote Labour (nor Tory nor Reform) but I was naive enough to think he would take genuine pride in his new role and put the country and its people before himself and his cronies.

I’ve got a lot of respect for Karl Pilkington. I’d make him PM if I could 😁 never met the man but I very much like the man he appears to be.
