What famous people have you lost respect for?

There are currently quite a few I have lost respect for, who are yours and why??

OP posts:
MadeleineMummy · 07/10/2024 10:03

People I do have respect for in no particular order m:

  1. Anthony Hopkins - he literally killed and ate people and washed it down with wine
  2. Ralph Fiennes - he literally shot and killed people for fun
  3. Alan Rickman - When he was a teacher he had favourites and was really nasty to some kids who were not in his house. He also killed the headmaster of his school.

I really have respect for Noel Edmunds who gave away millions to thick people for just opening boxes. The guy from the chase who gave away millions to people for just answering a few questions. We really need people like that in the world.

I need to get to work now.

Women pretending to be men has happened throughout history. We live in a fucking patriarchy for god's sake. For some it has been the only way to get ahead.

If it was a better option for more women (ie you could reliably avoid rape or employment discrimination) more women would do it.

I don't doubt that men have got sexual kicks from dressing up as women for time too. Again, we live in a patriarchy! The subversive thrill, the humiliation kink, the sissy porn, all hinges on a society where women are subjugated. These things can only exist in a patriarchy.

There is also a history in gay men pretending to be female, more so in cultures that are even more patriarchal with higher levels of homophobia.

None of this is in doubt. Feminists point out that patriarchies are misogynist and homophobic and damaging to all of us.

Trans activism bowls in and says actually those brave women from history who pretended to be men ARE MEN (Jk Rowling has committed the sin of still being alive, otherwise they'd have transed her too). Those straight men who cross dress for thrills ARE WOMEN AND HAVE ALWAYS BEEN WOMEN. Those gay men who grew up with abusive homophobia too hard to battle ARE WOMEN AND HAVE ALWAYS BEEN WOMEN.

It doesn't take a genius to understand why trans ideology is fundamentally incompatible with feminism.

Superb post 👏

Amen to that.

Don't tell me you wished for more of the Tories and their lying, self serving, divisive shenanigans?

No, I didn't......... (as I've made perfectly clear).

While I fully support the trans community, there should not be compromises made by women who have fought for their rights against historical discrimination and the vestiges of a patriarchy that still prevails and fosters gender based violence and suppression of women.

Brefugee · 07/10/2024 10:47

"great actors" lolz

(i will grant that Tennant has often been excellent. But the gurning and scenery-chewing unfortunately ruined the latter years of his Who tenure)

you aren't displaying any understanding of the clash between women's rights (which are human rights) and trans rights (which are also human rights, and they have the same rights as everyone else in their sex class)

Moonshiny · 07/10/2024 00:12

I agree, she is misogynistic! Glad we're on the same page.

It's a pity she didn't believe that women authors have power and have the confidence to put her name out there on her work, even after a very successful franchise.

Relying on the illusion of being a male author in this day and age to get money is pretty sad... especially when the 'biggest' female author in the world professionally identifies as a man.

Christ you sound absolutely desperate here! JKR choose to use initials for the HP books as it was thought they might appeal more to boys that way (good old misogyny) and Robert Galbraith for complete anonymity because she wanted to see if she could get published in a different genre as first time writer.

Either way it doesn't impact anyone else at all, unlike men who think they've got the right to enter womens sports because they've decided to call themselves Emily or Lia.

TwistedWonder · 07/10/2024 11:12

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 07/10/2024 09:21

Funny how she's built a career basically identifying as a man

Of all the 'I hate JKR, she's a hateful bigot who hates trans peeepuul' shite, this one made me laugh. Is there a human on the planet who actually thinks she's a man? Or identifies as one? Whatever that means, identifying as something can never be properly explained on here.

She's an absolutely queen, she's against males in women's spaces and sports (what has she ever said against transmen?), what shes done for women and girls is tremendous and she wipes the floor with all the hard of thinking keyboard warriors who hide behind anime pictures that try and take her on. A couple have made it onto this thread I see.

And no, we won't take it back to FWR. If we want to post about women and girls' right to sex based spaces here we will.

Absolutely. To accuse one of the most vocal supporters of women’s rights and safety a misogynist because she took her publishers advice is one of the most ludicrous pieces of straw clutching I’ve read on here.

People are absolutely free to disagree with her views but to call her the exact opposite of what she is - well that’s laughable.

I think she’s an absolute queen. She constantly sticks her head above the parapet to support vulnerable women and unlike others, she’s never forgotten where she came from and used her fame and worth for truly worthwhile means.

What are you talking about?

Blessedbunny · 07/10/2024 11:22

It’s good though. Yet another example that shows how little critical thinking capacity these people have.

Bertgotkinky · 07/10/2024 11:46

You spell checked me because I wrote center not centre. You then said unless I’m an american in your reply. The word American should have been a capital letter so if you want to be clever and make yourself look good by spell checking someone make sure you are grammatically correct yourself. That’s what I’m talking about.

The last paragraph isn't relevant this is a thread of which famous people you don't like. All I am saying is David tenant is a good actor but because he had a trans child and wears a t shirt that stated about trans rights fucking nothing I repeat nothing about women's rights people are like oh I hate him now. In my view that's lole donald trump supporters hating on taylor swift because she gave money to Democrats yet done nothing wrong.
Also the hate towards Emma Watson Daniel Radcliffe again is all because if their stance about trans people .
Then folks say oh they ain't in a cult and they don't hate etc oh and are not bigots but it's very strange how it looks that way

Sobasically people are attacking great actors like Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson etc because of them being OK with trans people that's it. Nothing bad they haven't done nothing wrong yet it shows to me how utterly disgusting some folks are

You must be a parody. Hope so.

Doesn't usually stop them, any opportunity to turn a thread into a trans/women's rights one on here!
Would a "what are you having for dinner tonight" thread turned into one if they saw an opening or tenuous link.

It's a thread about famous people you've lost respect for. People have given legitimate (whether you agree or not is by the by) reasons for losing respect of certain people.

Throwing women under the bus in the guise of 'trans ideology' happens to be one of them. It's not really difficult to understand on a website predominantly visited by women (the ones with vaginas) but a few appear to be struggling with this.

Following the Cass Review and doctors across the world reverse ferreting, anyone talking about "trans kids" is looking pretty irresponsible. That's enough reason to disrespect someone.

Worldgonecrazy · 07/10/2024 12:55

David Tennant used to be a good actor. Then someone (I presume his dentist?!) told him to grimace and gurn at every opportunity and his acting skills dropped proportionately to the number of grimaces in any given episode.

you keep writing a lot of words that make no sense.

My last paragraph makes perfect sense on account of you and all the other TRAs bleating on about how awful some people are because they don't kowtow to the Cult of the Trans Child.

So people i have lost respect for (not that i had any in the first place because i prefer to know not much at all about he private lives of actors) are the ones spouting nonsense such as "trans rights are human rights". DOH! We know.

Women's rights are human rights too. And people like JK Rowling (with whom i agree on many but not all things) are not wrong to put their focus on a group they support.

MaidOfAle · 07/10/2024 13:12

Bloody hell maybe David Tennant was reading some of the interminable circular discussions about trans people on Mumsnet going on and on and on and on, round and round and round about trans/cis/bathrooms/hard won this that and the other when he said what he said.

I'm as GC as they come, but seriously, can't you all just piss off back to FWR and have your little argument over there? There's a reason most of us have that echo chamber hidden. Because listening to you all squabbling over trans vs women is BORING.

And here we have a concern troll demonstrating the First, Third, and Fourteenth Rules of Misogyny.

I've already said that DT has done more than just wear a t-shirt. Why do you keep lying by pretending that that's all he did?
