Following the Cass Review and doctors across the world reverse ferreting, anyone talking about "trans kids" is looking pretty irresponsible. That's enough reason to disrespect someone.

Perfectly put.

Hunnymonster1 · 07/10/2024 10:02

Sobasically people are attacking great actors like Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson etc because of them being OK with trans people that's it. Nothing bad they haven't done nothing wrong yet it shows to me how utterly disgusting some folks are

Edited

Er, "great actors like Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson"? regardless of whatever opinions they have given about anything, any scene they appear in would be less wooden if you threw an IKEA chair into it.

Love how it's always on stuff like trans /women's rights threads you'll have people liking an actress until she comes out as the "wrong sort"" of woman in her opinions and then it's like "well I never liked her anyway and and and her acting SMELLS!"
😂
Bet she's like "oh noes, hit me where it hurts, my acting skills!"
lol

Waitingfordoggo · 07/10/2024 14:01

@TofuTart A bit like how loads of people loved Harry Potter until JKR talked about women’s rights and then suddenly people were telling her on Twitter that she’d broken their heart and they were burning her books?

Waitingfordoggo · 07/10/2024 14:02

(And she didn’t give a shit 😂)

Loved her tweet telling someone she gets same royalties whether they read or burn her books

Some of them were even buying the books to burn which is a whole new level of crazy!

I don't remotely think Radcliffe or Watson owe Rowling anything, but they are objectively terrible actors.

TofuTart · 07/10/2024 12:02

The last paragraph isn't relevant this is a thread of which famous people you don't like

Doesn't usually stop them, any opportunity to turn a thread into a trans/women's rights one on here!
Would a "what are you having for dinner tonight" thread turned into one if they saw an opening or tenuous link.

Edited

There's a very direct connection between respect for someone with great talent, and the loss of that respect when you learn that this person believes women are inferior to men, and our rights to safety, dignity and decorum in same-sex spaces, and to success in our own sports and awards, doesn't matter at all to them.

I can't imagine why you would not make that connection yourself.

Try as people want to be inclusive we still live in a gonochoric society that is hard gendered by biology. There are the 5% intersex and the 30-40 subdivisions of these based on chromosomes, genitalia, reproductive organs, hormones, physical features, body hair, identification and socialisation. Then there are the 5% of people, who are not comfortable in their bodies based on how they identify. So in totality I have sympathy for both intersex and trans people but for the 40+ % of women who are biologically born with female genitalia, female reproductive organs and produce female reproductive hormones, oestrogen, progesterone and (a small amount of) testosterone, have XX chromosomes and bear female characteristics and face gender based violence, discrimination and prejudice we should not have to subsume our rights for the sake of another marginalised minority. We should work together to find accommodation but not at the expense of our rights, safety, protections and comfort, in a democracy we should take a minority into consideration so that they are not totally oppressed but neither should we give up our rights.

Worldgonecrazy · 07/10/2024 14:51

Eddie Izzard - when he said (to paraphrase) ‘these are not women’s clothes, they are my clothes’ - respect! Eddie Izzard deciding he’s a woman/trans when it suits him to get the job - respect goes down the plug hole of the sink in whichever women’s toilets he has decided to invade.

Yes that was such a disappointment, as was him playing the victim after he scared those teenage girls in the ladies.

Great actors? In what universe?

The ones where the socks end up, from the washing machine Portal?

Hard-sexed by biology, not hard-gendered. There are loads of women out there who don't like pink.

The proportions who have a DSD or gender dysphoria are more like 0.5%, not 5%.

But otherwise you are spot-on.

Could you have accidently pressed the key combination that changes the kb from UK English layout to US English layout? Happens to me quite regularly.

Thank you very much.
I will try that out.

wateringcanface · 07/10/2024 17:35

Johnny depp. I can't believe I fell for the sham show that was the 'trial' at the time. It was a smear campaign, he didnt care about the outcome. He and his lawyers were just after sound bites to flood social media with, and so many of us fell for it. Afterwards, I read up on the original trial, and the evidence used to gain him the title 'wife beater', and it was damming. So much evidence was omitted in the US trial, which some of his die hard fans clubbed together to pay for access to, which once they realised it was pages and pages of evidence of evidence against depp they swiftly pretended it never existed. It was all pr, laughing and clipping the term 'mega pint' as if a reason to not take Amber's lawyers seriously, when in fact it was a direct quote from Johnny in his uk trial, insinuating that amber shit the bed, when there were text logs back and forth where they acknowledge their dog shitting in the bed was a common problem. Everything contrived, done to humiliate and deflect. Amber wasn't a perfect victim, therefore she is guilty, where as Johnny doesn't need to be perfect, people will accept a vile, aggressive, drunk abuser of a man over an imperfect victim.

Josette77 · 07/10/2024 18:31

Mel Gibson said Jews were responsible for all the wars. So yep, he seems pretty shitty. Not to mention he abused his wife, and called Winona Ryder and oven dodger. He also asked a gay man if he had AIDS.

Diddy has been arrested for heinous crimes and we've seen him attack his girlfriend.

Somehow though this thread is more interested in insulting the kids from Harry Potter for having a different opinion on trans rights, and David Tennant for wearing a shirt.

I love Mumsnet. It really is the epitome of privilege.

It's a thread about famous people you've lost respect for. People have given legitimate (whether you agree or not is by the by) reasons for losing respect of certain people.

Throwing women under the bus in the guise of 'trans ideology' happens to be one of them. It's not really difficult to understand on a website predominantly visited by women (the ones with vaginas) but a few appear to be struggling with this.

Yep this. People are entitled to say they have lost respect for the people who have decided to shit all over womens rights - and their safety and welfare. (And they're entitled to explain their reasons why, and talk about it on this thread.) Hell will freeze over before I will be shut down by random posters, some who I believe are just purporting to be a woman.

@MaidOfAle (at 13.12,) how interesting that link is! A 'concern troll.' Never heard of that before. Definitely a few on this thread! They're best ignored to be honest. I CBA with them, and won't engage with this type of poster.

!

Blessedbunny · 07/10/2024 18:40

I’m guessing that People didn’t have respect for ‘diddy’ in the first place… (or had no view of him, given he’s an American with minimal visibility here)

most people liked (or had no view of) David Tennant so it was disappointing that he is a bigoted misogynistic twat.

no one likes people who are ungrateful people pleasing arsehole turncoats, so it was disappointing to many that the hp actors became (or perhaps always were) just that.

and as always - thinking one thing doesn’t exclude being able to think other things.

When 'the kids from Harry Potter', and David Tennant speak their branes, because of their privilege, it has real-world consequences for lots of kids out there.

To be relevant to this thread you'd have to have liked them in the first place 🤷‍♀️ I'm not disappointed in Diddy and Mel Gibson because I always thought they were wankers.

Threw Glinner under the bus.
I used to love him, followed his podcasts, in on the ground floor.
I’m gutted by his luxury opinions

any bus glinner is under, he put himself there.

David Attenborough

what's he done?

Johnny Rotten. His pro-Brexit and anti immigration rants is making him sound like Nigel Farage, specially considering he's an immigrant himself! (has been living in the US for decades), I despise people with double standards. Moron.

and wasn't his wife, who I massively respect him for being such a great carer to during her dementia, but she was German wasn't she?
I love the sex pistols.
I love PIL.
John Lydon is a hypocritical twat.
but he did go up in my estimation for how he took care of his wife at the end. he took his wedding vows seriously. still a twat, but I admired that.

I love David Tennant, what has he said? I tried to look into it but couldn't really find much about him

he's openly supportive of his nonbinary child and other nonbinary and trans people. apparently that makes him a bad person.
