There are currently quite a few I have lost respect for, who are yours and why??

OP posts:
MoneyNeverSleeps · 07/10/2024 06:33

I don’t respect anyone just because they’re famous,
but I cannot stand Laura Kuenssberg.

She makes my teeth itch.

mellongoose · 07/10/2024 06:45

Gary Lineker. Ace footballer turned rich ranter. So annoying.

Violetparis · 07/10/2024 07:17

Billy Bragg
Caitlin Moran
Same reasons others have said.

Yennah · 07/10/2024 07:19

Gary Lineker, David Tenant, the HP kids who without JK Rowling would not be where they are,

dottiehens · 07/10/2024 07:22

No that I ever respected those below but will easily scroll down or never support their tv programs or social media films or music.
Oprah since coming out bias in M& H interview and realised she is just an agenda pusher.
George Clooney and Taylor Swift for using their fame to influence people in politics. TS even worse after the attacks or terrorist threats coming out to say she supports KS. I would said she would be keeping out of politics.

Fescue · 07/10/2024 07:27

A meddler, just as bad as Putin.

MoneyNeverSleeps · 07/10/2024 07:38

Starmer, Rayner and Reeves
H&M
Emily Maitliss
Ellen Degeneres
Oprah
Charlie and Naga
Holly W

we saw him in padstow once. it was in a pub, and he was basically flashing a huge wad of cash at the bar. lost any respect I had for him in that moment, he was being so tacky

Was he cashing up at the tills?

She's not just some old boss!! They got their break in acting because of her - surely she deserved a little bit of loyalty? A little bit of respect?

And you don't have to "blindly agree with your old "boss"" - but you don't have to throw her under a bus either!

They got their break in acting due to the person who auditioned them.

I believe Rowling had the final say but they had to get past an audition first

You mean his stance on trans people because his child is trans and fucking nothing to do with women's rights at all . You guys are wrong and stupid he has never said nothing bad about being a woman at all he said some people are trans get over it and yeah he's bloody right and I am a woman to

Yeah but no but.

I think Daniel Radcliffe’s mother was the casting director. From the atrociously bad turns from all three actors in the HP series, I can’t imagine them successfully auditioning to blow their noses let alone play the characters they finally did on screen. The film series is filled with strange facial expressions from the kids, very phoney emotions and missteps in delivery as well as a lack of timing which should have been edited out so God only knows what the other takes were like. At least there were professionals to rescue the series.

100%

Funny how she's built a career basically identifying as a man.

she has published 2 series of books using

a) initials to obscure that she's a female author because hard sales figures show that male authors have higher sales. Women authors do better when their sex is obscured. That is booksales 101. It has a long history going back to when women like George Eliot and the Bronte Sisters had to publish under male names. As ane fule kno

b) a series featuring a male detective. Again there are exceptions, but in general they have better sales when published under a "male" name. And if you are going to come at us with "but Val McDermid" then you KNOW one (possibly 2 or 3) successful female authors in the genre, why do you know them? because they are the absolute exception.

tl;dr - publishing under a male name =/= identifying as a man

SapphireSeptember · 07/10/2024 09:18

The twats who've thrown JK Rowling under the bus. There was another female author who lost her job because she was on Jo's side and then became a lorry driver, can't remember her name though! But she got thrown under the bus too.

Till Lindemann, Marilyn Manson, Adam Savage. All have had some nasty allegations made against them, and I'm inclined to believe the women.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 07/10/2024 09:19

@SapphireSeptember Gillian Philip. The way she was treated was disgraceful.

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 07/10/2024 09:21

Of all the 'I hate JKR, she's a hateful bigot who hates trans peeepuul' shite, this one made me laugh. Is there a human on the planet who actually thinks she's a man? Or identifies as one? Whatever that means, identifying as something can never be properly explained on here.

She's an absolutely queen, she's against males in women's spaces and sports (what has she ever said against transmen?), what shes done for women and girls is tremendous and she wipes the floor with all the hard of thinking keyboard warriors who hide behind anime pictures that try and take her on. A couple have made it onto this thread I see.

And no, we won't take it back to FWR. If we want to post about women and girls' right to sex based spaces here we will.

AthenaBasil · 07/10/2024 09:36

MaryEllenWaldron · 07/10/2024 02:51

The original publisher explained to JKR that boys won't read books written by female authors. Harry Potter is a children's book. She was advised to use her initials instead. It's a sad fact that this is the case. Misogyny seems to be innate in males, even at such an early age. You seem to be looking for reasons to direspect her.

Exactly! JK Rowling was once a single parent on benefits. Are people really annoyed that such a person agreed with publisher’s advice to have the biggest chance of success.

Worldgonecrazy · 07/10/2024 09:43

David Tennant - he is obviously intelligent enough to be aware of both sides of the debate but seems intent on harming his child to gain some sort of kudos from people who hate women. Also he told women to shut up.

sandi Tovskig - saw several obvious trans men at one of her gigs, and it broke my heart to see young women so full of self loathing.

As for the men who turned out to be creeps etc, not surprised if you think of it from a numbers /averages pov. A huge percentage of men are abusive self-centred creeps, including the famous ones.

Timeforaglassofwine · 07/10/2024 09:43

I can't loose respect for someone for having a different opinion to me, that would be childish and anti democratic. I loose respect for celebrities who stood by silently amid Jimmy Saville, P Diddy, Epstein, Weinstein etc. People like the young Harry Potter cast have very different opinions to me, but I can't loose respect for people for having an opinion.

For me it’s those who abuse a platform, which lesser mortals lack.

OuterSpaceCadet · 07/10/2024 09:58

Women pretending to be men has happened throughout history. We live in a fucking patriarchy for god's sake. For some it has been the only way to get ahead.

If it was a better option for more women (ie you could reliably avoid rape or employment discrimination) more women would do it.

I don't doubt that men have got sexual kicks from dressing up as women for time too. Again, we live in a patriarchy! The subversive thrill, the humiliation kink, the sissy porn, all hinges on a society where women are subjugated. These things can only exist in a patriarchy.

There is also a history in gay men pretending to be female, more so in cultures that are even more patriarchal with higher levels of homophobia.

None of this is in doubt. Feminists point out that patriarchies are misogynist and homophobic and damaging to all of us.

Trans activism bowls in and says actually those brave women from history who pretended to be men ARE MEN (Jk Rowling has committed the sin of still being alive, otherwise they'd have transed her too). Those straight men who cross dress for thrills ARE WOMEN AND HAVE ALWAYS BEEN WOMEN. Those gay men who grew up with abusive homophobia too hard to battle ARE WOMEN AND HAVE ALWAYS BEEN WOMEN.

It doesn't take a genius to understand why trans ideology is fundamentally incompatible with feminism.

Can't see that Marcia Gresham had anything to do with the Harry Potter franchise but willing to be told otherwise

The series is not only filled with strange facial expressions but quite a few plot holes which I notice more and more. It's still fun to watch and pull apart and yes thank goodness for the professionals

Ha ha ha ha sorry how dare you say he has harmed his child you know nothing about his child. I follow a young yrans person account on twitter and they are happier being who theh want you be but maybe a world that thinks like you harms them. Maybe talk to anyone and see you r wrong

Hunnymonster1 · 07/10/2024 10:02

Sobasically people are attacking great actors like Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson etc because of them being OK with trans people that's it. Nothing bad they haven't done nothing wrong yet it shows to me how utterly disgusting some folks are
