When did you stop giving a fuck?

Ten years after my eldest was born I’m still super sensitive and nowhere near as tough as I used to be. I worry - mostly about work but the kids too. I read once that your amygdala enlarges after children - don’t think mine went back.

I am 41. When does this blissful state I’ve seen women talk about, in 40s/50s hit - about not giving a fuck?

Just before Covid hit. Then we were cocooning and I began to realise, other people’s unsolicited opinions of me, my family, my job, my house, my location, was more about them than me.

I also stopped using WhatsApp and all those dreadful group texts, family texts and school alerts. It was so freeing.
I can honestly say, I have never felt more content. No that life is perfect, just that I approach things in my own way and without the outside noise of other’s opinions.

I'm still a fucking nightmare at 51 to be honest.

Honestly I think it's all massively over hyped. I'm sick of seeing influencers banging on endlessly about being perimenopausal and 'giving no fucks'. And I always think, yeah, nothing says I don't give a fuck like constantly telling other people that you don't give a fuck! 🙄

I'm mid 40s and perimenopausal and I'm still pretty sensitive and probably spend too much time in my head. I've been in therapy for a long time and I'm quietly getting more confident, more resilient, more self reliant. I'm also on HRT. I recommend HRT and therapy enormously. I'm enjoying life more as I get older, in a lot of ways, but there are still plenty of challenges

I'm also bored with this whole "peri" thing. You've got a shit husband and your kids are tiring.
