Vinted - why would someone do this?

Just bought a skirt from Vinted, listed as 'very good' condition but when it arrived it was very badly stained and had a couple of small holes, not mentioned.

I raised a concern and without replying the seller accepted the complaint so I have a full refund.

Obviously that's great for me but I don't get why anyone would go to the trouble of packing up and sending off a rubbish item and then just accepting no money for it. What's the point?

I sold something I genuinely thought (and still think) was in good condition and the buyer immediately started in with photos of tiny spots etc - I just refunded without even responding. Why? Because some people just fucking love to whinge and moan and stick the boot in about what a terrible person you are and by just refusing you cut all that off before it even starts and save yourself a lot of stress.

timetodecide2345 · 03/10/2024 07:44

Because it was probably going in the bin anyway and they just thought ' why not try and sell it?' It's a lottery with Vinted. The prices for good stuff are cheaper ( like Biden, white company etc) but you accept that sometimes you get duds.

Changingplace · 03/10/2024 07:44

I think some people are just trying it on, and some buyers can’t be bothered with sending it back when they have to cover the postage.

I bought some trousers described as brand new without tags and the waistband stitching was all unravelling I took photos and the seller accepted the return but then messaged me querying if it was just the ‘small’ amount of stitching that was the issue - why would I want trousers that were damaged at all when they we’re described as new with tags?!

My daughter sold genuinely new crocs on Vinted that were the wrong size for her. She tried them on once and then put them back into their original packaging where they remained until she sold them. They were brand new and she sold them for very cheap as she's a teen and needs a bit of extra cash. Buyer kept complaining they were covered in urine!! What?!?

It's free?

FranksBank · 03/10/2024 07:49

I have been so lucky with Vinted - All of it's been nice on the whole BUT something that does come up a lot is items that are white or very light clearly having been washed with darks Hmm ruins an otherwise lovely quality piece

So I now stay away from lighter coloured items unless their photos are really clear

Rowgtfc72 · 03/10/2024 07:55

Dd bought a coat knowing it had a small stain on it. The bloke sent her about 20 pictures of the stain. When she received the coat he messaged her twice to check she was OK with it and didn't want a refund.
Some sellers are OK.

It's free?

That’s not the point though. The person wanted it removed for free more like. And the person who took it is lumbered with a dud machine.

FranksBank · 03/10/2024 07:47

It's free?

Presumably the person wanted a working washing machine and would not have gone to the hassle of picking up a broken one if they’d known it was broken.

Amiburningout · 03/10/2024 07:58

Imagine the horror of buying a “new without tags” coat from Vinted - only to find used tissues with dried green snot / phlegm AND a sticky and leaking sweet in the pockets….

It took AGES to prove it to Vinted. They weren’t helpful at all

Did they put the transit bars back on to move it? It may have been working when it was disconnected, shaking about could have caused problems. Was it completely dead?

So you’d have been happy with that?

That’s sounds like some kind of weird perv to me.

TenarAtuan · 03/10/2024 08:21

No surprise to me. I'm pretty much done with vinted. Too many bad experiences and if you challenge anything the seller rates you down, to which vinted won't get involved.

Newtrix · 03/10/2024 08:49

I think everyone has different standards. I bought a bag from a brand I love that wad an absolute bargain and listed as "Good" turned up and it was almost immaculate. Alternatively bought something as "Very good" that smelled horrendous.

oOiluvfriendsOo · 03/10/2024 08:57

I sold a pair of jeans in really good condition. Seller asked the length, the sizes were on the jeans and I measured the inside leg as requested and jeans were sold and sent off.
Buyer leaves a negative review saying jeans wrong size.......

It's free?

So they conned someone into taking it to the tip for them!

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 03/10/2024 09:36

When buying on Vinted I spend aaaaages reading sellers reviews in particular any that may hint at issues and their replies if any. Takes me days to make a decision Grin

WillowTit · 03/10/2024 19:45

FranksBank · 03/10/2024 07:47

It's free?

yes but what a hassle and a disappointment
why should they USE you to dispose of their broken white goods?

HangDai · 03/10/2024 19:47

I know someone who bought Olaplex from Vinted and it turned out to be a bottle of spunk, she binned it.

Not overly surprised. My hairdresser said they've heard of this more than once.

Was it advertised as working?
Did the collector use transit bolts to stop the drum moving during transport.
