Porridge oats, bought a bag for a couple of quid and it's going to last me 3 weeks of breakfasts...and I really like it and it's good for you.

Unfortunately junk food. Cheap giant takeaway pizzas etc.

Safxxx · 26/09/2024 17:06

I can't find nothing that's ridiculously cheap lol 😞

Augustus40 · 26/09/2024 17:09

Jacket potatoes.

BestestBrownies · 26/09/2024 17:13

Dried chickpeas/lentils/pulses in big bags in Asian supermarkets (and the flours made from them). Super cheap per portion compared to the ready-to-eat microwave versions in supermarkets. And really healthy too. Same goes for spices.

I'll agree oats are very cheap. I think UHT milk is also very cheap. Back to under 90p for a litre carton in Lidl and lasts for ages (because I don't use much). It ceases to be ridiculously cheap when one considers that three years ago, it was under 40p.

A lot of fast fashion is ridiculously cheap, but that's the kind of thing I steer clear of. More expensive is not in itself a guarantee of quality, but a lot of cheap clothes are of noticeably poor material and make, before one gets to considering that if they're so cheap here at the end of the production line, how little the workers were paid and under what conditions they worked.

10 items for £10 at Iceland. Get on it! Nobody ever died from a Findus Crispy Horse Pancake.

Kendodd · 26/09/2024 17:19

Aeroplane tickets .
It really shouldn't be so cheap to travel in a big metal tube in the sky.

Debtfreeme · 26/09/2024 17:22

A chicken, when I think about it, should be way more expensive

Terfified · 26/09/2024 17:22

Carrots

Just what I was about to say ! Carrots every day this week 😝

LaPalmaLlama · 26/09/2024 17:23

Bananas- always surprises me.

Poob · 26/09/2024 17:24

Olive oil - for hair, skin, nails. Maybe cooking if there’s any left.

Where are you buying yours? It’s so expensive now

I’m sure a few years ago an economist worked out a chicken should cost £50 if food had kept up with the cost of housing.

I do wonder about how cheap meat affects our attitude to something giving its life for us

Livinginaclock · 26/09/2024 18:02

Lentils, they make delicious soup, curries, pasta dishes etc

FernGullyLunchbox1994 · 26/09/2024 18:03

I agree with plane tickets. £14 flight to Croatia in half term was my latest find, and £21 back

Newterm · 26/09/2024 18:04

All meat, apart from decent organic meat. And battery eggs which should be banned

Me, three.

SunnieShine · 26/09/2024 18:09

My Lebara mobile contract. It's brilliant

TheFlis · 26/09/2024 19:06

Kernels for making popcorn! A bag is less than a pound and makes buckets and buckets of the stuff.

Sepoctnov · 26/09/2024 19:11

Carrots
Bananas
Cucumber
Regular standard tomatoes

Of course not the organic or premium stuff but relatively speaking all these are cheap and healthy.

Neurodiversitydoctor · 26/09/2024 19:15

Apples and blackberries ( free round here at the moment). Onions, cabbage, cream cheese, I always think cream and milk should be more expensive.

AntigoneFunn · 26/09/2024 19:16

Asda reduced yellow sticker stuff. I got cauliflower, broccoli, sprouts, carrots, bags of herbs, bean sprouts, strawberries and courgettes for about £3.50 the other day - all will last long enough to be made into meals this week!
