Porridge oats, bought a bag for a couple of quid and it's going to last me 3 weeks of breakfasts...and I really like it and it's good for you.

OP posts:

Packets of seeds for growing flowers and veg.

Ifailed · 26/09/2024 20:58

Basic roast dinners. A whole chicken £5.
A shed raised chicken in a huge dimly lit building with broken bones and skin disease caused by close proximity. It has no taste and is raised quickly to provide cheap protein to those who don't care where their food comes from.

Sainsbury's yellow label stuff at around 8PM and "Too Good To Go" app food.

Other than that, only bananas seem cheap.

IsItWickedNotToCare · 26/09/2024 21:07

Some lovely olive oil soap with smell of lemon verbena in home bargains, 99p a bar, lasts ages and feels very luxurious. I bought 4 bars...

Loose carrots!

Jacket potatoes.

I came on here to say that. Also ginger root.

Coverage ok?

It piggie backs off Vodafone I think. I've never had issues. Me and kids all have sims from lebara. Best savings I've done was over 70 for whole family now they on £5 each and mine is £10

And the farmer makes 4p per bird. Just for the sake of "cheapest".

The reduced fruit and veg boxes in Sainsburys, £2 for a big box full of admittedly very ripe fruit and veg but usually all perfectly good still.

Olive oil - for hair, skin, nails. Maybe cooking if there’s any left.

Olive oil has literally doubled in price here and is absolutely anything but cheap right now.

However… when I compare it per bottle to the super expensive skincare products I see friends discussing, I wonder if the person who said olive oil is cheap might be referring to it as cheap skincare rather than an inexpensive ingredient in home cooking! It’s certainly not a cheap food, but in a world of insanely priced skin products a big bottle of expensive olive oil probably does seem “cheap”, much in the way that organic gluten free flour is very expensive at a glance but pales in comparison to the price of a fully assembled gluten free item at a bake shop.

Aldi dishwasher tablets and they are amazing!

Supermarket versions of Doritos and supermarket dips

Can get a pot of sour cream and a big bag of Doritos for about £2 what a bargain

Flixbus: Barcelona -Perpignan (3 hours non stop) €9 there, €12 back.
Irio train: Barcelona-Madrid (3 hours) €94 for 3 people in August!

I agree that flights are ridiculously cheap for what they are.

Food wise, yes porridge, it's awesome. You can make a fab bread out of oats and cottage cheese, plus an egg and different seeds. Sounds weird, bloody lovely and really filling. Bag of seeds lasts ages and I use many (chia, sunflower, lino, sesame, pumpkin) to bulk up couscous dishes and salads.

Can we have the recipe for the oats and cottage cheese bread please?

elQuintoConyo · 26/09/2024 22:31

I'll post it tomorrow floppybit .

Of if you get your nose out of the air, for people who would love a roast dinner but can’t afford expensive meat so have what they can afford instead of feeding there kids junk.
Not everyone can afford organic or high welfare meat, think about it before you comment.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 26/09/2024 22:44

I always think crumpets are cheap.

I flew to Paris and back for £60 a couple of weeks ago! That's cheaper than getting the train to London!!

IMustDoMoreExercise · 26/09/2024 22:44

@elQuintoConyo do you have a recipe for this bread? Can it be done in a bread maker?

WiserOlderElf · 26/09/2024 22:49

Clothes from places like Primark. Makes me feel sick to think how much they must pay their workers and what poor conditions they work in. Could never bring myself to buy stuff from there.

ODFOx · 26/09/2024 23:17

Frozen hake: half the price of cod and just as flavourful.
Delicious and really versatile.

Lyricallie · 26/09/2024 23:22

Cream crackers, I do love Jacob’s, but the Tesco and Co-Op ones taste extremely similar and the Tesco ones are 49p for a big packet. My favourite snack with some Tesco branded cream cheese. (Although I did get a family sized Philadelphia as it was on special recently).

Exactly. The food snobbery is awful. Yes of course it would be great if everyone could afford the best premium organic meat but that's just not the case. Surely better to eat "cheap protein" than ready meals and junk food.
