Porridge oats, bought a bag for a couple of quid and it's going to last me 3 weeks of breakfasts...and I really like it and it's good for you.

Bananas

Flixbus: Barcelona -Perpignan (3 hours non stop) €9 there, €12 back.
Irio train: Barcelona-Madrid (3 hours) €94 for 3 people in August!

I agree that flights are ridiculously cheap for what they are.

Food wise, yes porridge, it's awesome. You can make a fab bread out of oats and cottage cheese, plus an egg and different seeds. Sounds weird, bloody lovely and really filling. Bag of seeds lasts ages and I use many (chia, sunflower, lino, sesame, pumpkin) to bulk up couscous dishes and salads.

BeerForMyHorses · 26/09/2024 19:21

The majority of veg is cheap. In season fruit is surprisingly cheap.

Livinginaclock · 26/09/2024 19:23

Megabus.
Backpackers hostels.
I've just stayed in London for 7 nights, accommodation and return travel for under £150.

Oceangreyscale · 26/09/2024 19:29

I find it kind of weird that something as lasting as a glass jar or bottle is so cheap. Basically doesn't seem to add to the price of whatever product is inside. In some kind of post apocalyptic scenario they'd be worth much more. Although so I guess would everything.

GameOfJones · 26/09/2024 19:34

Gregg's. DH and I occasionally take DDs for a treat and we have an absolute feast for about £15.

I mean there are people who think we’ll be mining landfills for waste plastics in years to come as it’ll be too expensive to make it new, once oil starts to run out. So getting something in a plastic pot will be considered super fancy 🤣

Paracetamol.

Unfortunately junk food. Cheap giant takeaway pizzas etc.

I can't find cheap giant pizza anywhere! Luckily my kids like the small £1 ish supermarket pizza at the moment and then they add toppings, but if you don't like those then pizza is an expensive meal here.

Livinginaclock · 26/09/2024 20:07

Yes, I thought that too, pizza is not cheap.

10 items for £10 at Iceland. Get on it! Nobody ever died from a Findus Crispy Horse Pancake.

Totally agree! And if you're over 60, 10% off on Tuesdays!

Their 3 packs for £10 on fish and seafood is amazing. We eat lots of fish as a result.

leafyknees · 26/09/2024 20:13

Asda bar soap. 30p, smells lovely, lasts ages 😍

ThewaytoAmarula · 26/09/2024 20:13

Root ginger. Packs a real punch of flavour, you don't need to use a lot. It's really good for you. Costs about 30p for a big lump.

Needhelp101 · 26/09/2024 20:14

It's not exactly CHEAP but the National Rail Family and Friends rail card is still £30 for a year, which gets you 30% off rail fares for a year if you travel as a family (up to 2 adults, 2 children). Worth it. Been this price for years.

And yes, carrots, especially from Lidls!

Yes absolutely agree, takeaway pizza must have one of the highest markups as it’s just bread, tomato sauce and cheese. Pisses me off how expensive it is from domino’s everytime we have it.

MintyNew · 26/09/2024 20:17

Food in this country. Deals everywhere for everything. I still can't get over how cheap food is, family often visit from my home country and astounded by how much you get from a standard supermarket shop.

Sunflower101 · 26/09/2024 20:26

Milk, cheaper than water from shops!

MummyInTheNecropolis · 26/09/2024 20:35

Washing up sponges - 45p for a pack of 8 in Tesco!
Also ibuprofen - 39p a pack

Overthebow · 26/09/2024 20:38

Basic roast dinners. A whole chicken £5, potatoes 60p, stuffing mix £50p, carrots 40p, peas £1 for a whole bag, Gravy £1 per tub, flour milk and eggs for Yorkshire all cheap. Roast dinner for the whole family for around £8

muffledvoice · 26/09/2024 20:39

Supermarkets own brand dried goods are usually really cheap. Same goes for own brand cup a soup type soups and wonky veg

FranticFrankie · 26/09/2024 20:43

daisychain01 · 26/09/2024 20:43

ObieJoyful · 26/09/2024 18:06

Poob · 26/09/2024 17:24

Olive oil - for hair, skin, nails. Maybe cooking if there’s any left.

Can you go over to the thread where everyone is saying how ridiculous the price of olive oil is now and tell us where it's cheap please
