Er, my armpits smell really funky for the past few days? Despite showering

I literally spent 15 minutes cleaning them and scrubbing them yesterday evening in the shower. I applied Mitchum roll-on deodorant before I went to bed. This morning I woke up and there's a funky smell again?! Not sure what to do? Kind of like stale BO :/

Use soap instead of shower gel, if you're not already. It makes a big difference.

dustoffthebooks · 24/09/2024 10:20

It's the clothing. You need to use Dettol Laundry Disinfectant in the conditioner drawer, no conditioner and biological powder - not liquid - to wash the clothes. Minimum of 40 degrees as well.

Do a 90 degree maintenance wash on the machine as well.

Yep go back to old fashioned bar of soap in the shower/bath. Much more effective than shower gels.

Nannerli · 24/09/2024 10:22

Are you properly hydrated?

Singleandproud · 24/09/2024 10:22

How old are you?
How do you feel in yourself? Could you be run down? Eaten something particularly pungent like garlic?

When DD hit puberty her pits smelt something awful but soon settled. I wouldn't be surprised if the same happens as you head towards the menopause with hormone changes.

Or other issues, could be a change in the formula of what you wash with. Proper soap is needed rather than Dove or a shower gel.

@terrs please ignore, once you @ you can't delete, maybe Mumsnet should change that

Look on general health board, a very similar thread with loads of advice ( last couple of days) @FairTurtle

Thanks everyone. I've just bought some dettol soap, those scrubby gloves things and that nuud deodorant. Feeling pretty concerned. I showered again this morning and scrubbed my pits and about 6 hours later a vague whiff is back. The weird thing is I don't actually feel like I'm sweating?

OP posts:
FairTurtle · 24/09/2024 18:48

Also, I'm working from home and honestly not doing anything at all taxing that would make me sweat there!

Oooh I've just seen another thread about this and seen that people said Mitchum deodorant causes a buildup which can stink? That's the deodorant I use so maybe it's that!

I was just coming in to say Mitchum is just shit now.

And don't change it up for Dove as I don't know what they have done to that either.

I'm giving Sanex a go now, it seems reasonably better.

It's not you, it's them....

LittleGreenDragons · 24/09/2024 19:32

Is it your armpits or is it your clothing contaminating your armpits? Sometimes washing can get the BO smell when heated by body warmth and that gets transferred to you.

ThatMakesSense · 24/09/2024 19:42

Bar of soap for me too! And a quick whizz with the razor. Shower gel just doesn't make my pits fresh at all

Pas Sure anti perspirant only works for me - with a top up during the day.

thinkfast · 24/09/2024 19:53

Sure roll on works for me OP.

LadyLolaRuben · 24/09/2024 19:56

I had this after covid19 for a few weeks. Have you been unwell?

SharpLily · 24/09/2024 20:02

Smelly pits are always the first sign of pregnancy for me...

Walkingtheplank · 24/09/2024 20:03

I'd agree that soap is better than shower gel.
Also, I find that non-organic milk makes my pits stink. No idea why!

Indygrey · 24/09/2024 20:05

I have had a similar problem recently, almost like an oniony smell ( and I don’t eat much onion! I am menopausal and have long covid which has multiplied all my menopausal symptoms, so I’ve not looked further for a cause… but I have tried many many deodorants. Mitchum, even their ultimate version, just doesn’t do the job any more, nor does dove extra strong, or sure. But I found that Fussy is not bad . The absolute best has been AKT- not cheap, but smells great even after 14 hours or so .

Evolutionarygoals · 24/09/2024 20:12

I also used to use Mitchum and found I was getting a weird, sour smell. I'd second using a proper soap. I've also switched to a salt of the earth salt block - it helps kill off the bacteria that causes the stink. Sometimes I use it as a base layer to some other hippy deodorant, but quite often just on its own. I realised I sweat a fair amount anyway so tbh, even the best chemical deo didn't make a huge difference. I do use something more heavy duty if I have something important, like an interview, but generally the salt does the job

AShortName · 24/09/2024 20:15

Try an anti-fungal wash.

muffledvoice · 24/09/2024 20:17

Shower before bed and apply body lotion or cream to armpits then morning wash with soap and apply cream again and then deodorant

Unicorntastic · 24/09/2024 20:19

Try wiping under your armpits with white vinegar to kill off bacteria. Every now and then my armpits smell and I do this and they are ok again.
