Er, my armpits smell really funky for the past few days? Despite showering

I literally spent 15 minutes cleaning them and scrubbing them yesterday evening in the shower. I applied Mitchum roll-on deodorant before I went to bed. This morning I woke up and there's a funky smell again?! Not sure what to do? Kind of like stale BO :/

I spray the teens school shirt pits with white vinegar and let it sit for a few mins before washing. Could try it on your actual pits while in the shower? The only rill on that worked for me when I was competing (and being sweaty and staying in the same top all day!) was Perspirex. The dark blue one. Only need to use it every third day but it can sting your armpits at first.

My body temperature increases so much just before I come on my period. I always know when the night sweats start that my period will be any day! It’s likely just hormonal.

RockCrushesLizard · 24/09/2024 20:21

I agree with dettol soap and a scrubby thing to wash with.
But nuud deodorant is pants - I smelled horribly musty using it

Anti bacterial soap and wild deodorant- which is natural. Also white vinegar in the washing machine

Make sure any soap bars u buy are antibacterial. They will kill off any bacteria lurking in your pits. Often bacteria is what causes the smell. 🙂

MoreHairyThanScary · 24/09/2024 20:33

Are you sure you're not pregnant and just have an enhanced sense of smell?

thehungryteacher · 24/09/2024 20:39

Hibiscrub is great if you can get it

RobinEllacotStrike · 24/09/2024 20:39

I switched deodorant once (to a Sure solid one) and it made me stink. My pits smelt like a blocked drain. I couldn't believe it was the deodorant but it was.

AllstarFacilier · 24/09/2024 20:43

I’ve noticed this recently and I’ve changed from the super 24 or 48 hour mitchum one, to a coconut one. I smell awful using it. Not sweaty,.. but foisty

BashfulClam · 24/09/2024 21:09

this tends to happen to me just before my period. I use dettol soap then when I get out the shower and eh off I use hand sanitiser under each arm as it’s antibacterial and just disappears. Then it’s antiperspirant and some body powder.

I second this - it lasts ages too

TheVeryHungryTortoise · 24/09/2024 21:45

I had the same situation with mitchum deodorant earlier this year. I have started using bar soap in the shower and have switched to men's roll on deodorant and no longer have an issue.

comedycentral · 24/09/2024 21:49

I know it's been said but soap and exfoliant 1-2 times per week. The sanctuary spa hot sugar scrub works well for me.

Vettrianofan · 24/09/2024 21:49

SharpLily · 24/09/2024 20:02

Smelly pits are always the first sign of pregnancy for me...

I must have been pregnant most of my adult life then😆

Vettrianofan · 24/09/2024 21:50

Bar soap either Dove or Shield.

Men's antiperspirant deodorant.

Pelicanbriefcase · 24/09/2024 21:50

I think they’ve changed Mitchum!! I’ve always used it and it doesn’t work anymore! Thought it was just me.

Mabs49 · 24/09/2024 22:22

get a sulphur based soap on Amazon. It’s a great bug killer.

youve got an overgrowth of bacteria. It may help to look at PRE biotic for the skin to help healthy bacteria re-establish themselves. Not sure what staphylococcus epidermis lives on but try feeding that up. Inulin solution might do it. Check pub med.

Pablosdog · 24/09/2024 22:29

Perspi Guard body wash from Amazon is brilliant for removing any lingering odour

SeriousFaffing · 24/09/2024 22:34

LadyLolaRuben · 24/09/2024 19:56

I had this after covid19 for a few weeks. Have you been unwell?

@LadyLolaRuben interesting suggestion for after illness. I have found that I tend to be prone to BO just before I get really ill.

lovemycbf · 24/09/2024 22:45

I've just stopped using Mitchum deodorant as was having sweaty smelling pits
I've gone back to sure spray on and t seems much better

Mabs49 · 24/09/2024 23:36

Unicorntastic · 24/09/2024 20:19

Try wiping under your armpits with white vinegar to kill off bacteria. Every now and then my armpits smell and I do this and they are ok again.

Can confirm this works. Any acid will kill off the bacteria for a bit.

you need Inulin to grow staphylococcus epidermis to take over the bad bacteria.

get a bag of Inulin powder off Amazon. Dissolve some in water, put in spritz bottle. Spray. Voila. Smell gone hopefully for good.

Dr Armpit: Eliminating body odour with ‘good’ bacteria

There may be significant opportunities to harness the skin microbiome to control body odours with the discovery that strong bacterial diversity, high levels of Cyanobacterium species and low levels of Staphylococci are associated with unpleasant odours...

3LittlePiggs · 25/09/2024 09:02

The men's Mitchum still works, if you don't mind smelling a bit like aftershave.

MalbecandToast · 25/09/2024 09:13

This is so interesting because I use Mitchum, have done for over a decade and its not stopped working for me?!

Are you sure its not your clothes? I used to use too much laundry detergent fabric softener and got a build up on my clothes - when they got warm I would get a whiff in the armpits of some of my clothes. Now I use powder instead of liquid with a capful of dettol laundry disinfectant in the wash and never have this problem.

MinnieCauldwell · 25/09/2024 09:20

OP have you had laser hair removal? I have heard that this can cause permanent BO. It kills the root of the hair that has something to do with stinky bacteria prevention.
