I think it was definitely of its time and he’s right it probably wouldn’t get made now but I loved it, it was so real and funny and DH and I quote it to each other all the time 😁

I think it’s like a lot of shows: at the time they were groundbreaking or novel and refreshing for some reason, but other shows have since come along which use similar plot lines / production techniques / formats etc and so the things which made the first shows to do this so entertaining are no longer quite as entertaining.

Also I think it’s pretty common for actors to looks back on their earlier work and cringe a bit - especially if they were very young at the time.

Still hilarious, hopefully they’ll make another series!

IceStationZebra · 18/09/2024 20:31

It’s funny to me, but when it first came out I was in my early 20s and it reminded me of the boys I was friends with at school. It doesn’t need a remake or a reunion, just leave it be!

Starlightstarbright3 · 18/09/2024 20:32

I still can’t get on a bus without calling myself a bus wanker 🤣

Squirrelsnut · 18/09/2024 20:32

FRIEND!

LlynTegid · 18/09/2024 20:33

Of its time, some aspects seem really dated. The pupils talked to each other and not on their phones as much as possible.

HRTQueen · 18/09/2024 20:39

I absolutely love the inbetweeners it was hilarious when it first came out and still is

they are silly awkward teenagers and remind me of ds and his friends they are just as silly. The other day ds was talking about a new friend at school I replied aww fwend his other friends who were round having dinner found this highly amusing ds did a Simon 😆

they all got the joke shall dine out on this for 2 minutes I was a cool mum

i don’t think he is distancing himself many actors do not watch themselves on screen we all remember the lines as many of us have watched it many times

Ouncesnow · 18/09/2024 20:45

We still quote it to each other all the time. If I ask DH what’s for tea I shout ‘IT BETTER BE DELICIOUS!!’

Manasprey · 18/09/2024 21:04

I thought it was about as real a representation of 6th form boys as you can get on telly. Took me right back to the lads in 6th form (which is why we went out with older lads!)

Ds thinks it's hilarious, even though he's not actually old enough to be in 6th form yet. I kind of feel you appreciate it more if you're looking back.

I did an Access to Nursing course, and the biology tutor's fondest memory of our cohort was me shouting 'clunge' during the human reproduction classes.
Except I was 33 at the time, and not a school boy.

The Facebooks is a staple of conversation in my house

MyUmberSeal · 18/09/2024 21:11

Morning benders, hop in the mingemobile 😂.

rainsofcastamere · 18/09/2024 21:12

I work in an office of blokes. Whenever they start banging on about football I always say 'ooooh football friends'.

It was funny, it still is funny and always will be funny.

AdviceNeeded2024 · 18/09/2024 21:12

It’s still hilarious. I love it.

Tara: I want you to talk dirty to me, I like imagining things.

Simon: I want to feel your boobs

Tara: oooh then what are you going to do!

Simon: I’m going to fuck your fucking fanny off you twat!

😂😂

I don’t feel like he is distancing himself at all . It’s more just honesty. For him it was work a fair few years ago, lots would say similar about their own work projects too.

Many actors don’t watch themselves back and certainly not repeatedly like i have the Inbetweeners over the years ( and still enjoy it even though he is right it wouldn’t get made today)

Cyclebabble · 18/09/2024 21:18

I still think it is still funny. All comedy dates to a degree. There is an episode of Blackadder- where Blackadder thinks he fancies a man which the BBC no longer show. It is funny, but dated and would not be made now. Even Dad's Army now carries a warning that it contains racist slurs [against the Germans]. Does not stop me watching it though.

Ineedaholidayyyy · 18/09/2024 21:20

Well it still makes me laugh whenever I catch an episode!

"Bring your wellies, because we’re going to be knee deep in clunge"

One of the best parts of the whole series 🤣
