If you can’t work due to health problems but don’t get PIP what do you do??

I don’t understand the UC system for this - if you don’t get PIP can you still get LCWRA?

I can’t work due to severe gynae issues and although I could get a GP letter and have seen a consultant/ had some surgeries I’m now discharged as all the other treatments are only suitable if my family is complete and it isn’t (plan is another baby if that’s even possible then hysterectomy). So basically I have to get re referred when ready for hysterectomy

Can my GP just keep issuing notes is that the only way ?

Are you taking iron tablets? You need to be taking them every other day with vitamin C

thebaddist · 18/09/2024 23:27

ThreeFeetTall · 18/09/2024 23:26

Did you not get PIP as problem is not long term? Or did you apply and get turned down as not enough points?

I would do a benefit check on entitlted2 website, whether you are entitled to any UC will probably depend on your partners income more than anything.

Could you maybe look for a temp/zero hours type job where you could work 2 weeks on, two weeks off?

She applied for sure.

Ignore @thebaddist in particular.

If you're unable to work for medical reasons you may get contributory ESA if you have been working until recently. It isn't means tested, and it doesn't matter whether you get PIP. It is distinct from UC.

@Velvetandgold thank you, that's a huge amount of knowledge! I've screen shot it (think this thread won't be around very long)
I will look into everything you've kindly sent

They didn’t work because the bleeding was so excessive, I’ve had an iron infusion and think I will probably need another at some point

@thebaddist you are talking like you know this person, you are seriously acting so vile.

Honestly what difference does it make to your life if this person claims benefits, wins the lottery, has 20 children? Seriously you can spout about your taxes but this person would not even make a penny in difference to your taxes, yet you have real venom towards them.

I genuinely cannot imagine being this vile towards someone where I had no clue about their life but presume to know everything, its really quite sad.

I haven’t applied for PIP as I don’t think I’d qualify as there are treatments it’s just you can’t have any if ttc. Also looking at the criteria I don’t think I’d qualify. The only things I can’t really do now or struggle with are stairs due to being very out of breath, cooking as I have dizziness all the time and occasionally faint

spikeandbuffy · 18/09/2024 23:35

I would still be taking iron tablets in the meantime to even try and keep your levels as they are, every other day is better for absorbing them
That way you can say well I'm taking them and my levels are still X and it's easier to get an infusion

Pantaloons99 · 18/09/2024 23:36

OP, I was working and then became seriously unwell. I recall that I was advised to apply for ESA which I did.

I know things are changing and that could mean that ESA is something that stops soon and they make all claim UC.

Maybe you should open your eyes and learn just the bare essentials about endometriosis, adenomyosis and the shit show that is NHS treatment and diagnosis before judging.

That woeful performance on diagnosis and treatment is the problem here, not a woman hoping ot have a second child and get back to work.

I’m not even sure if I’d be eligible for any benefits I’m definitely not trying to rinse the system. I’d just love another child then to get this all sorted and get back to work! It’s a temporary problem.
The reality is it will probably be difficult or impossible to conceive again.

I do I just couldn’t take them right before the infusion and for a week afterwards

OP there is 9 years between my two.. because l suffered Endometriosis and PCOS... I had a miscarriage and an Ectopic between.. during in my laparoscopy for the Ectopic my gynaecologist cleaned my tube with the one ovary left and said that would be my best chance.. 3 months later l was pregnant.
I breast fed for a year then had an hysterectomy.
During my pregnancy l was so well.
After hysterectomy too.
But l couldn't claim benefits because my husband worked. .. and really never thought to.. but that was 32 years ago.
I did work up until the Ectopic.. but after that l was too ill... with the endo etc.. it really is deliberating.. all you can do is ring the helpline to find out.

ManchesterLu · 18/09/2024 23:39

Sorry but if you're in a situation where you can consider getting pregnant, having a baby, and looking after said baby, you can work.

namechanger458 · 18/09/2024 23:39

@thebaddist do you really think a random person shouting vile insults online is going to get anyone to change the track of their life? The way you have spoken would just get you ignored as someone who is nasty.

You can make a point without saying awful things like her kids will have the most miserable life and she doesnt want to work. Not one of these things you could possibly have a clue about, its just nastiness for the sake of it and I promise no one will ever listen to your point of view or take you seriously when you just throw out random insults. You would be better screaming at your wall, all you are doing is getting yourself far too worked up and being nasty over someone you have never and likely will never meet.

The fact you think doing this will make some radical change in our benefits system is laughable, its the most bizarre justification ever and I promise it will make zero difference.

Josette77 · 18/09/2024 23:40

The thing to consider op is a hysterectomy isn't a cure for endometriosis. I've known many people who remained in pain and then due to early menopause started having heart problems.

How will you parent if there is a long wait until surgery? Or if you still have several pain issues?

caringcarer · 18/09/2024 23:40

Why not get the hysterectomy and get well then adopt a child if you feel well enough to care for it?

Being pregnant then breastfeeding after stops all the symptoms as stops my periods , being at work doesn’t have the same effect ! If I was lucky enough I would just have a hysterectomy afterwards and then recover and go back to work then

I’m also of the opinion that you shouldn’t be spending taxpayer’s money (through benefits) while ttc - this should come out of your own pocket if there is a treatment you have refused because you want to “complete” your family. This is a luxury I don’t think the rest of us should pay for, however, can’t really blame you if the system lets you do it. No need for people to be nasty about it. It’s the government who should reform the benefits system so people can’t do this. Benefits should be for those who truly can’t work or a stopgap while people transition back into work. It’s the system that is flawed.

The bleeding due to it is the main issue so it would help in my case

Although I think adoption is a wonderful thing it’s not for us. I would like a second child of my own and if I can’t then we are very blessed to have our dd
