So for tv show:

When the Street Lights Go On.
Really good and equally as sad.

Films …. Maybe Creep 2004, I just rewatched it all these years later. But maybe it’s not as obscure as I think.

A film called 'The Power of One', set in apartheid South Africa. I saw it once as a teen on TV and it made a lasting impression on me. I then managed to catch it again on TV about ten years later. Haven't seen it in years and years. I sometimes wonder if there's a DVD or if it's faded into the past.

I've just googled The Power of One, and it's available on Disney Plus.

And loads of you will know this - Peter No Tail ♥️

I was a Nanny in the 80s. The children watched this, Dogtanian and Willy Fog!!

TV - a lot of people have never heard of Third Watch.
Made by the same folks as ER (there was even a cross over episode) but shown at random o'clock on Channel 4. Six seasons but 2 only ever got released on DVD due to music copyright issues.
It was about Police, Fire and Paramedics in Manhattan. Season 3 was due to start in September 2001 but had to be delayed and plots completely changed and re-filmed and a whole new episode 1 filmed.
They set the first episode on September 10th - an ordinary sunny day where not much happens but we (the viewers) knew exactly what was coming.
It was very emotional.

Yep used to watch this… loved the crossover ep with ER too… (I know all ER episodes off by heart )

It’s niche but I knew someone would know.

Willy Fog had the best theme tune! So many did in the 80’s actually, Bert and the Racoons, Jayce and the Wheeled warriors, Cities of Gold, Ulysses. We googled it and the same guy wrote a lot of them. It’s a shame they aren’t like that now.

There are loads of films I wouldn't necessarily recommend but I always used to be surprised no one else had heard of. We watched them repeatedly at church youth group, so at the time I assumed they were regular films, but as an adult I always get blank looks if I mention any of them. Things like The Gods Must Be Crazy, Marcelino Pan y Vino (not the cartoon series, the film), Les Visiteurs (I used to love that one), the first Asterix film ...

Someone mentioned Warehouse 13 which I loved, it was quirky! Also Fringe and rewatching Grimm.

I’m rewatching fringe right now for the hundredth time 😂 I had to watch Joshua jackson as he’s looking so dapper these days. Also loved Grimm

The Lost Room - a miniseries with Peter Krause and Juliana Marguiles.

I was going to say this! Really underrated series. I have recently rewatched it on a streaming channel, but can't remember which one.
So instead, I'll say Nathan Barley, a Chris Morris and Charlie Brooker series about annoying idiotic hipsters. Eerily prophetic.

For films, I'd have to say Kin Dza Dza, a low budget Russian SF film like no other. The DVD, annoyingly on two discs, has English subtitles.

Tales of the Gold Monkey, BBC in the 70s, kind of proto Indiana Jones in the Pacific.

Oh I loved this! Thanks for reminding me 😊

How about Packet of Three and Blue Heaven

Both vehicles for 90s Frank Skinner

colouringindoors · 18/09/2024 00:48

@DisneyHag I remember that! Philip Quast and Jack Davenport? About vampires?

I loved this but I guess they're not making any more. I live all religion/ supernatural type things. I have seen the actor who plays the priest in quite a lot bit couldn't name him.

He played a baddie in the good wife.

So Haunt Me. Loved that show.

Wow, the theme music popped into my head the second I read this and yet I'm struggling to remember details! But I definitely watched!

The Leaving of Liverpool

Clockwise used to be on terrestrial tv in the UK at least once a year. It was one of their stock films to fill the schedule when nothing much was going on. Surely everyone's heard of it.

the80sweregreat · 18/09/2024 07:15

Clockwise film is a study of a time when the roads were quieter , the trains were British Rail and life seemed a lot simpler ( although if he'd had a mobile phone , it would have been easier for him all round !)
A lot of those type of films are rarely on tv anymore. Too old I guess
Dancing Queen with Rik Mayal is a similar kind of film

Turnitoffnonagain · 18/09/2024 07:37

Tinga and Tucker, a children's show from the 60s. Two little koalas and various other animals, I loved it. Nobody I tell knows what I'm talking about. 🤷

The tribe
On ch 5 about 20 years ago, set in NZ, a world with no adults and just kids trying to survive in their 'tribes'

I enjoyed that series although parts were a bit crazy.
