So for tv show:

When the Street Lights Go On.
Really good and equally as sad.

Films …. Maybe Creep 2004, I just rewatched it all these years later. But maybe it’s not as obscure as I think.

The early era of Channel 5 was just fantastic.

Me me!!! I watched Sunset Beach! Me and my small group of friends used to hang out in a classroom at 6th form lunchtime, so we could stick on the tv and watch Sunset Beach!

Brimstone (1998) supernatural thriller crime drama

Moonlight (2007) Vampire drama
Blood Ties (2007) similar

Tru Calling (2003) premonition based drama

Reaper (2007) Ray Wise as the Devil comedy.

Loved Third Watch, not surprised to find many of them (actors) in Grey's Anatomy .. maybe a little surprised to find Bosco (Jason Wiles) in Criminal Minds 🤣

I loved Reaper

Parenthood - one of my favourite TV shows ever. It's so good - the acting, the storylines, but no one I know ever heard of it.

RebeccaDecember · 17/09/2024 22:06

Sunset Beach was the best. I loved Ben and Derek, the twins, the actor used to part his hair on different sides so you knew if he was being good twin or evil twin 😁

Tv show - Jack and Jeremy’s real lives, obscure comedy show with Jack Dee and Jeremy Hardy from the 90s. It was great. Literally no-one watched it.

Film - My Little Eye, budget horror from the early 00s based on a Big Brother style experience... Loved it at the time (probably very dated now though!)

The Big Blue or Le Grande Bleu

Saw that at a cinema in Oxford, late 80s! Compelling …

Yes, and Yes - I LOVED The Americans, it was a stunning series!

I couldn’t get into it. Tried to watch it again recently and only managed about 2/3 episodes!

Mask - with Cher? I cried so much

Yes! It’s brilliant isn’t it. So sad but also so heart warming!

That's reminded me of Jack Dee's Lead Balloon, I really enjoyed that but it's never come up in a real life conversation

Big John, Little John , and if you remember it, you’re probably singing the theme tune now.

StaySpicy · 17/09/2024 22:12

A film called 'The Power of One', set in apartheid South Africa. I saw it once as a teen on TV and it made a lasting impression on me. I then managed to catch it again on TV about ten years later. Haven't seen it in years and years. I sometimes wonder if there's a DVD or if it's faded into the past.

Needmorelego · 17/09/2024 22:12

@XelaM which version of Parenthood? There was a series not long after the original film (with a tween Leonardo DiCaprio in) and the newer one a few years ago. Whichever channel was showing it dropped it after the first couple of seasons so I never found out how it ended 🙁 It was really good.

FoxtrotOscarKindaDay · 17/09/2024 22:12

6 part mini series BBC 1988 - Playing for Real

First Born also 1988 Charles Dance (found it on Amazon for a ridiculous price)

Lead Balloon! When he nicked the cafe owner's joke to tell on TV 😆

Needmorelego · 17/09/2024 22:13

@tac10 I loved Shortland Street.

NashvilleQueen · 17/09/2024 22:14

Dream Stuffing - channnel 4 comedy, shown late Fridays maybe 1984 about 2 girls sharing a flat. Me and my mum used to love it.

A film called Once were Warriors- set in New Zealand about an urbanised Māori community and social issues such as gangs, unemployment, alcoholism, domestic violence. Around 1994. The guy in the video shop recommended it to my DH, I wasnt impressed when he brought it home, but watched it, it was amazing and stayed with me for ages.

I loved ‘Once were Warriors’ I was living in NZ at the time it came out. Such a powerful film. Loved the soundtrack ‘What’s the time Mr Wolf’
