All day guests, in a lovely country hotel. I haven't been to a wedding for over 5 years so I have no idea how much to gift.

As much/little as you want and can afford.

I always only give £20, maybe I'm a cheapskate? Who knows 🤣
Seriously tho, if you had a wedding and got gifted £20 in a card from me, what would you think? Just curious.

Honestly, I would just think 'oh that's nice'.

I'm really surprised at people saying £100. That's a heck of a lot.

OooohAhhhh · 17/09/2024 21:15

Yes, no way can we afford £100.
£20 because of our circumstances is a lot of money to us.

£50-100 if you are day guests. Up to £50 for evening guests but usually take a bottle if fizz as a gift instead if an evening guest.

It feels like these forums need a FAQ board, I am sure this is asked at least once a week

Howdull · 17/09/2024 21:17

£100

Howdull · 17/09/2024 21:18

£20 is an insult. Better to give nothing than £20.What the fuck is someone supposed to buy for £20?

OooohAhhhh · 17/09/2024 21:18

£20 more than they would of had

Mebebecat · 17/09/2024 21:19

Surely at least £100 per couple if you are there all day. And £50 per couple for the evening.

Then that's what you should give, and that's generous.

It's a gift. Maybe that's all some people can afford. If they add it to the other loot, it'll be a lot.

In essence you need to cover the cost of you as a guest so at least £50 each for the main meal and if an evening buffet another £25 / per person .

Really?? So do you gift more/less depending on how much you think the wedding cost?

No food! How rude.

StarSlinger · 17/09/2024 21:23

20 quid. We are not all on 6 figures a year. Plus you don't have to cover the cost of your meal. You might as well sell tickets if that's what you expect from your guests.

OooohAhhhh · 17/09/2024 21:23

Thank you, I like to think so as well.

TomatoSandwiches · 17/09/2024 21:23

The last 2 weddings were close family and we gave £250.
I think a friend for a day invite and a buffet I'd be comfortable giving £100 - £150.

Lemonmelon1 · 17/09/2024 21:24

We got married last year and had £10-£20 from a few and two gifts. A lot didn't bother tbh!

OneWildNightWithJBJ · 17/09/2024 21:25

It’s whatever you can afford. If that’s £20 then that’s fine. I was just happy to have people at my wedding. Couldn’t have cared less what value gifts they gave.

Surely £20 would buy you more than what nothing would

Some thank you cards for people who have kindly given what they can afford.

And talking of insults, have a look at your own fucking comment.

Q124 · 17/09/2024 21:25

I gave £60 at my brothers wedding recently.

usernother · 17/09/2024 21:25

If you're attending alone, £50. If you're a couple attending £100.

ellebelli · 17/09/2024 21:28

Shit got a wedding coming up in a month-£100? really?
They are friends of my OH-I barely know them(live London, we are Lancs)
Imagine all the guests gave that amount, that soon adds up!!- they would be bringing home a fortune (bit like teachers and the stupid amounts are school ask for teachers gifts)

BumblePan · 17/09/2024 21:29

Single £100, Couple £200. Weddings can be very expensive. Want to cover my meal and drinks and a little extra for a gift
