For me, it’s using a Fortnum and Mason hamper basket as a piece of decor…

We don't have Waitrose here. We have Booths. Much nicer Grin. I use my Aldi bags in Booths though, instead of the other way around! Booths is lovely, but I find their bags a bit twee!

Booths are miles away from South Wales so I'll have to take your word for it 😉.

Kingsleadhat · 15/09/2024 13:09

I declined a Fortnums bag because I'd brought my own Aldi one

Please tell us more about the £250 scrunches!

I paid £20 for 3 silk scrunchies for my frizzy hair and found that a lot.

A burberry which was £300 and I didn't even realise until months later, it was at the cash register like sweets in Sainsbury's. The Gucci one was a conscious buy when I had a shitty week and felt like being defiant. Most of my money goes to familynand colleagues who need my support, I promise I am not a total airhead

DH built me a small summerhouse/greenhouse two years ago. All filled with plants and knick-knacks.

I like to don my Lunn Antiques Victorian nightgown, grab a candle (in a long fancy holder!) and announce that I'm going to work on my novel in the summerhouse. DH bows and tells me he shall join me with tea or wine shortly, whichever the lady preferes.

Totally cringe and I don't even care. 😂

Harrietsaunt · 15/09/2024 13:32

Pretentious?

Moi?!

RunAwayTurnAwayRunAwayTurnAway · 15/09/2024 13:38

Insisting on M&S food more and more.

Del8100 · 15/09/2024 13:45

Completely agree on the uggs, botox, nails, hair extensions, filters, personalised number plates etc all being naff.

And my pet hate are people who put letters after their names on emails or use Latin phrases!!

Oh no! I use Waitrose bags for life too. And Windsor Farm shop bags, Rick Stein too. But I don't smooth them out for display. Does that make me less of a wanker?

The Windsor Farm Shop bags are lovely
extra wanky for admiring wankyness

MrsMitford3 · 15/09/2024 13:48

Oh and my DH (butler) runs me a bath every evening 😂

Pumpkittenspice · 15/09/2024 13:49

I use my M&S and Ocado cloth bags for my shopping, even when in Lidl and Home Bargains. I forgot to add that to the list…

This is my favourite one in this thread!

Jars of pulses and grains etc on display in glass jars in the kitchen. Unlabelled because obviously everyone can recognise which is the spelt and which is the pearl barley or whatever without needing a label. I do have Le Creuset casseroles visible too, but they’re on one of those IKEA trolleys rather than on the hob and mostly because they don’t fit in the cupboard. Fancy olive oil is not displayed because it needs to be protected from the light!

My jewellery is all either real gold/silver and stones, or something I bought in a small village whilst travelling somewhere wanky. I buy loads of art/stuff to display in the house when travelling so that I can wankily say ‘oh yes I got this in XYZ’, plus often nice food/drink. I’ve just come back from France with 3 types of salt (among other things). DH doesn’t understand 😂

And of course my MN username is pretty wanky!

This is my favourite one in this thread!

And I made a typo in it! Some novelist! 🤣 It's alright, I make the help (DH) proof-read all of my more serious works!

??

Who says it's "wanky"

I like mine I love basket weave it adds a texture into the room.
Why is that wanky?

Slightly off topic but F&M hampers are my go to present for people I don't know massively well or struggle to buy for. They're not actually that expensive but they always seem to be very well received - and then I spy the baskets still in use in their hones months later which makes me glad.

You’re doing the Lord’s work 🥰

@BaronessBomburst, I have a collection of papier-mâché masks that include green man, green woman, animals, gods, goddesses, skulls, etc.
We use them in rituals sometimes.
Other pagan stuff includes chalices, wands, knives, dishes, candles, decorated cloths, robes, cloaks, hangings, incense and burners, statuary, etc.
Pagans like stuff.

I not only store all the stuff in these millions of hampers, but also pack them into my van when going away for big gatherings - and look super wanky when we are unloading them.

BTW, I have a library too. Not sure that's wanky.

greenmarsupial · 15/09/2024 14:07

I keep the knobbiest empty packets for my DS's toy kitchen. I bought it secondhand and it came with some of the knobbier wooden foods so I amuse myself by adding to it. The rosemary salted nuts tin is my favourite so far.

We're also a stuff household. Not pagan, but I'm very into folklore so have some similar bits to you. Plus I've a bit of a love of (ethical) taxidermy and Victoriana. I try to keep them in one space, but they're spreading...

We have a library, too. I don't think it's wanky in itself, but when I invite guests to share an after dinner port in there, it definitely is. I'm a total library wanker.

Feeding my kids pretentious sounding food like Brioche, quinoa and avocado. I do want to punch myself sometimes 😆 #NotAWankerHonest

Tea pots are not wanky. I'm sat here right now with a big pot of tea. It is great for longer weekend breakfasts as you have a supply of hot tea refills on tap.

I would love to do this but for some reason tea leaves make me feel a bit nauseous. Not sure why as tea bags dont

Hubcapdiamondstarhalo · 15/09/2024 14:52

I have a 'decorative' stack of hampers in my living room, full of knitting stuff, and usually topped with a pile of rugs. Stole the idea from previous owner, and have accumulated them from hand-me-down, gifts, and jumble sale. I know one of them has writing on, so because of this thread I've just had a look - and yep, my jumble sale one is F&M. I hadn't a clue. Can I claim my wanker badge please? Grin
