For me, it’s using a Fortnum and Mason hamper basket as a piece of decor…

Lots of antique furniture and decorative items on display - including an antique singer sewing machine, despite the fact I can't sew, and a beautiful very old piano, despite the fact none of us can play the piano.

Absolutely loving this thread 🤣

Me too, my people!!

im guilty of a couple of things mentioned here but im loving the ideas to improve my overall wankeryness 🤣

sometimes i stop myself doing/buying something wanky but this thread gives me courage to let my true wanker self shine through 🥹

GameOfJones · 15/09/2024 10:34

I refuse to buy any jewellery unless it is real gold and/or actual diamonds or gemstones. No coloured glass/cubic zirconia. I said to DH the other day that I'd rather have five, proper pieces of jewellery than lots of cheap stuff. I do recognise this makes me a total wanker.

Needhelp101 · 15/09/2024 10:35

Damn it, I knew I shouldn't have clicked on this thread. I now want an F&M hamper (they're not as expensive as I thought) and pretty books.

I'm too poor at the moment to be wanky but I do have proper rolled tea leaves to make in a pot!

JustAMiddleAgedDirtBagBaby · 15/09/2024 10:36

I heard myself say 'most of my good jewellery is inherited' the other day.

Cherrysoup · 15/09/2024 10:36

Harrietsaunt · 15/09/2024 10:28

F&M hampers used as storage

Dog walking in Joules tweed jackets, Uggs, wellies.

Kilner jars

Tea pots

President butter in a China dish

Guilty of all these. I have an excruciating one to add to the general list though…

I pepper my conversation with French (grew up in Quebec) Majorly wanky. 🫣

I have multiple Joules’ polos which generally get an outing for dog walks, but to be fair, I’m ‘horsey’ (super wanky!)

I often come out with bits of French, I’m a language teacher and sometimes French words just fit better or I can’t think of the English. My Dh thinks it’s pretentious but I honestly don’t remember the right word in my own language! 🤣

brunettemic · 15/09/2024 10:38

I have all my running medals hung up and on display in the office.

Anoisagusaris · 15/09/2024 10:39

Some of the stuff listed is not ‘wanky’.

What's the definition of wanky for this thread? Before I start my list!

Is the wanky definition region dependent as some of things on here I'd consider a bit Wag style/chavvy

I agree - we need a definition!

Yes, this is what I mean!

HermioneWeasley · 15/09/2024 10:41

Nothing in particular in our house, but DS did take an utter dish to uni with him because we don’t use anything else and obviously you can’t have it from the fridge. He thought this was normal 😂

Pumpkittenspice · 15/09/2024 10:42

TheGirlWhoLived · 15/09/2024 08:58

I think the really wanky thing to do is to throw away your f and m hamper WITHOUT repurposing.

I feel so validated. Thank you 😂

Keep my Le Creuset “on display” on the job even when it’s not being used 🤣🤣

I will admit my pans and huge casserole dish were on display but only because the pans came with a wooden stand and the casserole dish sat on the side because it was too heavy to put in the cupboard. It was a sad day when i gave them away.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 15/09/2024 10:43

Is anyone else thinking some of the things on here are the precise opposite of wanky? Grin

Johnlocke · 15/09/2024 10:44

Aesop incense sticks. TBH I could probably get the same smell from something from the crystal shop around the corner for £2 but i really don’t care 😂

Pumpkittenspice · 15/09/2024 10:44

unrsnblyannoyd · 15/09/2024 09:44

Qualifications in email signature. Worked hard enough paid enough I'm keeping them 🤣

I’ve done this until recently in the past too. I’m such a wanker…

I have the equestrian, country attire "thing" going on.

Wasn't sure if I was a tea pot wanker then i remembered my niace cosy I insisted we buy for ££.

I came from a working class back ground and I haven't ever ridden a horse and I have no dog.

Fixes i'm a massive wanker badge onto my corduroy lapel.

No, it's another thread for people to say things they think make them look rich or classy.
Personalised numberplates and mentioning your husbands salary obv does that in an instant

Mrsredlipstick · 15/09/2024 10:46

I turned my cross body bag around yesterday as the branding wasn't showing. Admittedly I was in a posh county town!

For me that would include things like getting nails done - on the rare occasion I have had my nails done, I don't tell anyone in case they think it's a bit chav.

Notellinganyone · 15/09/2024 07:06

I keep cat food in mine!

I keep the dog's snacks in a Fortnum tin, and it makes me chuckle every day

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 15/09/2024 10:48

For those throwing French casually into the conversation, I’m worse. I’m a solicitor and throw in some Latin.

its not that I speak Latin, but there are some phrases that are easier to use in their original form than spend a paragraph explaining what it means. Barristers are worse, they chuck the Latin in whenever they can!

YoucancallmeBettyDraper · 15/09/2024 10:48

I suppose mine would be:

Cloth napkins when entertaining
Taking black cabs
Occasionally smoking vogues
Holidaying in Provence

I do own silk liberty pyjamas but they’re in a dust bag which I expect would make me nouveau riche, if I were indeed rich. Just nouveau, then

Calling jewellery “paste” is another one

I found myself saying "we have so much champagne I don't know what to do with it all" and had to acknowledge that I too am a wanker.

The champagne was actually a F&M gift from DH work and we use the hamper for the kids' cuddly toys in their bedroom. Maybe I should move it downstairs so more people can see it?

😂😂😂

You must! You won’t be a wanker until you do!
