For me, it’s using a Fortnum and Mason hamper basket as a piece of decor…

@Pumpkittenspice wins the thread with her F&B personal colour consultation and 'Stunt' tea towel; I will immediately adopt the latter utilising my very wanky pristine embroidered tea towel - pristine because who the hell would use a hand embroidered tea towel?!

MrsCatE · 16/09/2024 04:42

I forgot I have wanky provenance albeit via MrCat! We somehow accumulated a lot of Champagne which he insisted stored in the fridge to the extent we could utilise the salad drawer and door shelves for actual food. He would introduce the 'Champagne' fridge to visitors before me. I don't even like Champagne - I think it gives vomit breath!

Lo and behold, the stunt tea towel!

@Pumpkittenspice extra wanky points awarded there for having the kettle brand name facing outwards, that is of course unless you are left handed, points should then be deducted 😂

I am left handed! The brand name is on the other side too, so it makes no difference ☺️

To someone like myself who has many wanky little set ups like this I am in awe that the company has thought of everything.

Au bon and Isigny Sainte-Mere. Tbf I rarely drink and don’t spend money on takeaway food & coffee, so butter is my decadent splurge.

It’s also housed in a hand painted Italian butter dish and cut with sterling silver knives. 🙈

Oh. I was expecting Bordier or Éschiré not Isigny 😅but au bon is nice!

Thanks @LondonPapa not tried those, I get buy those butters as I can buy with my weekly shop, I will have to try the two you mentioned out. Any excuse for more butter!

Well I'm flouncing. No one mentioned my reference to my cherry wood armoire (it is not a very large woodworm riddled cupboard DH, thank you).

I was jealous….. (and my DH would say this same)

Bluevelvetsofa · 16/09/2024 09:11

I had three of the cross stitch crafts I made framed. They hang in the hall and I point them out to people if they don’t comment. 😂

I did have a private number plate, which was a present from DH many years ago, but it had to be sold. Sob!

The real question is anyone with Fortnum and Mason wicker hamper NOT using it for decorative purposes?

Gifted them most years: sell them on marketplace.

MrsSkylerWhite · 16/09/2024 09:14

(Corporate gifts, not from friends! There are only so many empty baskets you can use 😁)

MrsCatE · 16/09/2024 09:30

@Pumpkittenspice - behold the wanky tea towel usurper! Once given a nice steam iron (it's been stuck in a drawer for ages) will trump (not Donald) your stunt tea towel - Bwa ha ha haaaa!!!

@Pumpkittenspice I do admit defeat re SMEG Kettle, coffee maker and lovely kitchen finishes plus cat! I can only counter with a Dualit toaster and wanky Ninja processor.

Pumpkittenspice · 16/09/2024 10:22

@MrsCatE I love it!

It isn’t a coffee maker btw, it’s a Hotel Chocolat Velvetiser ☺️

That is a glorious tea towel @MrsCatE !

Trying to think what my most wanky thing is. Possibly a trio of old silver teapots on display and in need of a polish.

Was always more of a Liberty girl than FnM in my London days, because I worked around the corner and spent happy lunch hours there lushing out on the textiles and design.

I used to use the purple Liberty carrier bags for my clothes when backpacking, which a friend pointed out was really pretentious, but honestly they were just very good strong waterproof plastic and a lovely colour to boot.

Deathraystare · 16/09/2024 11:41

(Shuffles nervously in) Well my aunt had grape scissors. I did not acquire them so I hope another family member did and they were not chucked away.

How are we on corn on the cob holders? I got my Grannie's ones.???

Mrsredlipstick · 16/09/2024 18:44

@Drawahardline this Wankers Weekly, is it a club or a twelve step programme?
I have some seriously pretentious habits adopted from my late mother who was a Hyacinth Bucket clone. I may need to join.

@Deathraystare no to corn holders. Not wanky, American, as my mother would say.

VickyPollard25 · 16/09/2024 19:07

I keep my weights etc in a F&M hamper. It’s super useful! It’s tucked away behind an armchair, so not very visible!

Oopydoops · 16/09/2024 19:27

Using dupes of expensive perfumes and not admitting they're dupes.

tommyhoundmum · 16/09/2024 19:28

I gave away my F&M hamper. Now I wish I hadn't

What's your best wanker offering?

HauntedbyMagpies · 16/09/2024 19:40

Turn the wrong knob on my cooker, meaning instead of turning my grill on, I turned a hob ring on, setting alight the tea towel on it and smashing my Staub pumpkin dish with the cute lid. Wanky indeed. I loved that dish, I'm gutted.

SpiritOfEcstasy · 16/09/2024 19:48

I only drink F&M tea 😂

Bohomovies · 15/09/2024 11:32

I use brown oak leaves, collected up from under an oak tree - the ones which are still attached to small flexible branches. They last really well.
I’ve also made them using wheat, collected from the edge of a field near me. They last pretty well, too.

Thank you, those are great ideas! I will store them away for next year :)
