Good to see the children of the rich and famous doing real jobs?

OK I know she shouldn't have done the below but I actually find it refreshing that the children of of the rich and famous do real jobs and don't take advantage of nepotism. So many of the children of celebrities seem to become models or singers (though you haven't heard their music) it beggars belief.

I am glad some celeb offspring aren't too posh to do important jobs that maybe involve tough clinical conditions.

Jamie Oliver's daughter risks being disciplined for graphic posts

The 21-year-old has shared a series of graphic posts - which could be deemed unprofessional - on social media about her work and her patients.

Sounds like she won't be doing a normal job for much longer.

mids2019 · 15/09/2024 06:01

Do you think that's a point. Celeb offspring think they are influencers? Do they all yearn for the same game as their parents?

This isn’t specific to celebs or Daisy Oliver. She’s at Leeds University training at Leeds Teaching Hospitals, DD trained as a HCP at the same institutions. She had students on her course that did similar. They got pulled into the office and told to lock down their social media and remove everything related to the profession and trust.

It’s a maturity thing IMO.

Isn't one of Springsteen's sons a firefighter?

EachandEveryone · 15/09/2024 06:25

Davinia Macolls has just finished her dietitians course at Newcastle and Gordon Ramseys lad is training to be a marine.

mids2019 · 15/09/2024 06:26

Springsteens son seems a fine man. Glad some parents don't think they are too posh for their kids to do decent socially useful jobs. Good on him.

I know Bill Gate's daughter is a medic.

For all of the above there must be many more help babies or am I wrong? The Beckham's spring to mind.

She's so right, that's real talent! My five year old niece could never paint that well. Oh... 25? Erm...

😅

Bgfe · 15/09/2024 06:47

It is refreshing yes. Wonder if she’ll stick it out?
I love that line in the Pulp song ‘If you call your dad he could stop it all’
Must be hard to keep at a difficult job if you don’t really need the money. I am sure I wouldn’t still be labouring away at my shift work job after three decades if there was another way.
The Phoenix Brown pic is hilarious. 🤣
Seriously though it is a danger to have children who have nothing to strive for and and are used to getting attention just because of who they are. I wish Daisy luck.

Flibflobflibflob · 15/09/2024 06:50

I think it’s great, it must be hard being the child of a famous parent who’s supposed to be immensely talented or intelligent. There is probably a lot of expectation that you will have similar abilities. On the the flip side you probably don’t have to worry about the mortgage so you can probably do what you really want to do.

OpalSquid · 15/09/2024 06:53

You don’t have to be famous to be a nepo baby though.
It is rife everywhere, I’m a teacher, the teaching world is absolutely full of it. I got my first job because my dad was a ‘super head’ back when these existed - I didn’t even interview. The same for my brothers.
At one school I know, 5 of the 7 TAs are adult daughters of teaching staff.

I was talking to a friend about this yesterday. Standard of the art is low to put it politely. She’s the epitome of a nepo baby getting an exhibition for that. Maybe anyone can have an exhibition if they pay for it? 🤷‍♀️

mids2019 · 15/09/2024 06:57

At least some celeb parents warrant using their status to push their children into competitive fields pushing out others e.g. drama, fashion, art, music, television presenting.

It annoys me when a celeb child says they want to follow in their parents footpath because you know at some point the parents are possibly going to pull industry strings.

I like the pull quote though and I do hope these celeb kids stick it out.

It was the Oasis brothers daughters being models that made me chuckle lately. OK they are not unattractive but there must be literally millions of women with similar appearances.

If I stood to inherit Jamie Oliver levels of money I might have been able to afford to become a nurse.

This is true.
Thinking of the inexperienced, 19 year old daughter of our HR director who inexplicably got a job in our office recently.

What's wrong with being a nurse?

I know.
I used to work in pathology.
Every manager’s dc doing a gap year would come to be a lab tech to earn some money for uni.

Yes connections matter. Big drive in the public sector to ensure equal access to work experience. Medics inviting their colleagues children in for a few days in a whim when most people have to apply through official channels and suddenly everyone is busy.

See this is my lottery dream - to have enough money that my children never feel that they have to choose a high paying job in order to be financially comfortable. They can do whatever job they want without worrying about mortgage/childcare fees etc.
the freedom to stay living in London and not fret about housing prices and the knock on choices to make about how lucrative their career is.

No they don't, they usually work and have ambitions for the future. Even the royal children work and gain experience of real life.

You wouldn't expect anything else of one of Jamie Oliver's children, he was always a hard worker and set a good example. Not 'posh' either.
