Odd things that have happened at dusk in the UK.

I was driving back to my campsite from Lizard's Point to St Ives at dusk, and my sat nav kept directing me onto narrow B roads. One particular turn felt wrong from the start. We were quite high up, and the lane grew narrower and more rugged as we went further down. The road eventually turned into a rubbly track, with steep banks on both sides, dense undergrowth, and trees leaning over, giving it an eerie atmosphere. I grew anxious, worried that another car might come from the opposite direction since reversing would have been impossible. I was also convinced that one side was either a cliff edge or a steep drop. The thought of being ambushed crossed my mind, especially since I had my teenage daughter with me.

Suddenly, the sat nav cut out, and we found ourselves at a dead end with a fjord at the bottom. The road ended abruptly, swallowed by thick undergrowth and forest on the other side. An overwhelming sense of dread washed over me—an indescribable feeling of pure evil. I was terrified.

It took everything I had to reverse back up the hill, and it felt almost impossible to make it out. When I finally reached the top and got back onto the road, I stopped for a moment to compose myself. Just then, a car emerged from that very lane and sped off. I’ve never gotten onto an A road so quickly in my life.

I have no explanation. Cornwall is an odd place.

Sure is!

Fabulous. Now we just need to work out which are between Lizard Point and St Ives.

Edited

It could potentially be Ruan Minor or Gweek, or even Helford if OP was a bit lost, but in none of these does the road end, or look like it does 🤔. I'm not convinced it was an actual Ford, especially if it "looked deep".

coxesorangepippin · 14/09/2024 01:07

Why on earth can't the person who doesn't drive, nor knows what a Ford is comment??

SurreyBigCat · 14/09/2024 01:07

Ooooo I’ve got one!!! I had a leaflet delivery job over Covid times and was delivering at dusk. No through road, abandoned house at the end backing on to woodland. I approached the abandoned house, and what I thought was a very large fox walked towards me. Except as it got closer I realised it was a cat. It kind of stared at me and then walked back to the woodland. Can’t say I was scared - just fumbling for my phone!

I still cannot fathom what you're saying so I'm not going to bother trying but I will say that I was genuinely baffled as to what a wuleeze was and I wasn't calling you a nutter at all.

I don't understand the dusk reference. What's dusk got to do with anything? Has this happened multiple times at dusk? What?

I've actually done a three point turn once in a road like that, took me about twenty goes, but I got out.

No and definitely not in Cornwall. You need ice for fjords

You did conduct the appropriate pagan sacrifices before you came down here OP?

Honestly, I can't believe the amount of people who still take the risk and travel in the Celtic fringe without adequate psychic insurance.

To be fair psychic insurance is not well known up country. With the odd exception of the areas like the one around Pendle Hill in Lancashire.

Demdikes are still around there.

@Spomb Why would the sat nav send me down a dead end?

Because the devil himself manipulated your sat-nav with his evil powers to lure you into a dead-end where he could attack you (very important to do this off the main road so nobody would see him do it and report him to the police). Well done for driving away and escaping!

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 14/09/2024 04:41

worried that another car might come from the opposite direction since reversing would have been impossible.

I had to reverse back up the hill
