Odd things that have happened at dusk in the UK.

I was driving back to my campsite from Lizard's Point to St Ives at dusk, and my sat nav kept directing me onto narrow B roads. One particular turn felt wrong from the start. We were quite high up, and the lane grew narrower and more rugged as we went further down. The road eventually turned into a rubbly track, with steep banks on both sides, dense undergrowth, and trees leaning over, giving it an eerie atmosphere. I grew anxious, worried that another car might come from the opposite direction since reversing would have been impossible. I was also convinced that one side was either a cliff edge or a steep drop. The thought of being ambushed crossed my mind, especially since I had my teenage daughter with me.

Suddenly, the sat nav cut out, and we found ourselves at a dead end with a fjord at the bottom. The road ended abruptly, swallowed by thick undergrowth and forest on the other side. An overwhelming sense of dread washed over me—an indescribable feeling of pure evil. I was terrified.

It took everything I had to reverse back up the hill, and it felt almost impossible to make it out. When I finally reached the top and got back onto the road, I stopped for a moment to compose myself. Just then, a car emerged from that very lane and sped off. I’ve never gotten onto an A road so quickly in my life.

The car was small, maybe a nissan. The ford was deep and definitely a dead end on the other side. I would have seen a car - Unless it had been covered over with vegetation (hidden) on the other side of the ford.

Bloody spooky place.

I have fallen down the most marvelous rabbit hole…www.englishfords.co.uk/gallery_592777.html

There’s some great YouTube ford rabbit holes. Many are filmed by ford fanatics. It’s like a sport.

I live in London and we have a similar road that goes by the river. There’s not even a foot of space at times between the “road” / dirt track and the actual river. I’d called it a paved tow path myself. We went down it once, had to keep going, as there was no way back. It opened up to a larger area that’s directly UNDERNEATH the M25 which has turning room. And there is a soft play at the end of all this 🤣

Demonhunter · 14/09/2024 00:06

@pottymouth40 could be worse, it could be the Devil's Hour 👹

rewilded · 14/09/2024 00:07

Also scared another car would come up behind me and I'd have to get out to explain why I was reversing. Could of been a pervy or angry man. That's a genuine valid fear. Imagine meeting a pervert with road rage alone on the country road dead in the woods? Nope. Nope. Nope.

I know imagine a car coming down after me and just stopping! Lights full beam argh...stuff of nightmares.

This has put me off going back next year.

Perhaps you were heading towards a wormhole @rewilded and the car came from said wormhole!

SisterAgatha · 14/09/2024 00:08

On the back of this I googled the depth of the river and it’s between 2 and 6 metres depending on where you are.

so that’s nice 🙃

Demonhunter · 14/09/2024 00:13

I'm not being facetious with the last comment BTW. I do believe their existence is plausible and I'm convinced there's a specific spot in a park where I walk the dog that has some kind of residual from something like a wormhole.

rewilded · 14/09/2024 00:15

Tell me more.

What’s your evidence. Whats the residual?

EmeraldRoulette · 14/09/2024 00:22

@rewilded there must be a turning you didn't spot but I can see why you're weirded out.

@SisterAgatha puzzling over what that road is!

PullTheBricksDown · 14/09/2024 00:22

There's a paranormal / the unexplained section, OP, where this would've got a better response. Ask HQ to move it?

tolerable · 14/09/2024 00:24

I do not know wtf a fjord is.
I do not drive,never will.
(Every chance I'd of thelma/wuleezed it,so ..that's why)
My da woulda opened nearside door, arm over the headrest, bitey own tongue reverst..anywhere/anytime....n foot to floored it.... Back up hill.
My ma woulda kept knitting. Me n my sisters woulda bin(70s kids) on knees watching the "edge" go under the car
Did you die?

suburberphobe · 14/09/2024 00:25

A ford, I think the OP means.

Isn't that the make of a car?

Utterly confused now.

But I do believe there is more between heaven and earth than we can know with our logical minds.

People on here just dismiss it with the word "Woo" - whatever that means.

Sorry you were spooked OP.

Oh just Google it and educate yourself a bit

@rewilded .if it's about the "experience" (not the sunshine) style drive around the mentalists....kinda "trip" you yearn for.....come to Scotland. ..perverts,hills, strange behaviour is....a daily given

I want to know what a wuleeze is. Generally baffled.

SockQueen · 13/09/2024 23:07

Do we have fjords in the UK??

Definitely none in St Ives…

Sexyshrek · 14/09/2024 00:33

There an area of the A38 just before Totnes that always gives me a weird experience. Whenever I drive through it I suddenly feel like I'm in a stationary car and the outside world is rushing past me at great speed, rather than being a moving car driving on a road. Totnes actually is another dimension so not that surprising really.

Wondergoldenlight · 14/09/2024 00:39

Totnes to me is a pretty unexceptional town.

Wondergoldenlight · 14/09/2024 00:41

@TheChippendenSpook I think she meant Thelma and Louise. But the post was pretty much nonsensical

Sparsely · 14/09/2024 00:44

Can anyone else see the huge black post in the middle of page 3 . It doesn't have a poster's name or a date. How could that happen? Wormhole?

Oh! Thank you, I didn't get past that bit to be honest. I was really generally puzzled.
