Latest reports from the Washington Post seem to say the only shots fired were by the secret service. Who knows? Maybe he should try harder to not be someone that people regularly want to shoot at.

I said this on another thread but reading the Guardian article on the "assassination attempt" it seems the suspect was stopped on the Interstate near the golf course. So not actually on the golf course or indeed anywhere near Trump. So I wonder why they arrested the guy and declared it an assassination attempt.

I guess they've arrested some dude from Hawaii, allegedly he had an AK-47. It's said the gun was 'in the bushes'. Once I found out Trump was still alive, I sort of stopped paying attention. I get 'blurbs' on my phone but that's about all the attention I'm giving it.

Have to admit my first thought was 'real or a set up to get some sympathy after his inanity at the debate?'. Maybe his attempt at a 'Look, a fish!!!' to get people's minds off how evil he is. I'm not even going to hazard a guess. All I know is that I'm sick of seeing his face and/or hearing his name. Roll on November.

I feel like there is plenty of room on Mumsnet (and other social media) to argue both sides. This thread isn't it. If you are interested in making a pro-Trump argument, I beg that you either join an appropriate thread or start a new one yourself.

Adding: If I want both sides, there are plenty of people writing for reputable publications who present a pro-Trump perspective. I have consumed quite a lot of it and disagree with all. If I want to be privy to the other side, actors on social media is not going to be my route in. Why would I care what an actor thinks, in either direction?

I like to see media coverage from both sides, after all the polls are very close.

I am bemused by this second 'assassination attempt'. It certainly keeps his name on the top of the media channels. I will be interested to hear about the guy who's been arrested, given that there appeared to be a news blanket on the previous attempt with the ear. It was so odd that everything died a death, and nothing about his family, the victims etc.

If I'd just seen a photo of this guy I'd have assumed he was MAGA.

Honestly, I find it profoundly depressing to see that people continue to support Trump despite his obvious failings as a person and as a president, and, what's more, to see them discrediting Biden and Harris and imputing to them the same lack of good faith as their ghastly leader. Every time there is something on Twitter/X showing the depths of Trump's disgrace, I am astounded to find many replies supporting him and questioning everything about the Democrats. Granted, I must presume this is because Leon has taken over the platform and is only allowing right-wing commentators to flourish. But it is all so, so, demoralising.
