Non-fake, stable genius thanks to @Crucible for the new thread title.

Seniors' special today.*
They’re eating the dogs!
They’re eating the cats!
They’re eating the pets!...
So do you want fries with that cat? (*Apologies to non-MAGA seniors)

In other news, the swing states continue to be too close to call and it looks like it's going to be a nail-biting, buttock-clenching, hand-wringing 50 days to the election. (or thereabouts)

Yes, the policies that allow Richard / Rachel Levine to promote the sterilisation of children.
That allow males dropped from the men's sport team to grow their hair and join the girls team
That allow male rapists to demand to share a cell with females

Biden has embraced gender ideology. Harris appears to be much cooler on it.

I have not voted for Trump, but Riley Gaines and Chloe Cole are clear advocated for women's rights (well some of them)
and Democrat candidates are unable to reassure them.
That is a failure of policy.

I mean, I'm not interested in debating that particular issue. I will say, I have not seen one single tiny shred of evidence that any policy Harris could or would ever release will change a Trump voter's vote.

I will also say, as switched on American, I think your own feelings and the concerns of a vocal minority are causing you to overemphasise the importance of trans issues in this race. This is registered voters in September 2024. It doesn't even make the list.
https://www.pewresearch.org/politics/2024/09/09/issues-and-the-2024-election/

I also think you have this somewhat backwards. Trump acolytes/Fox News viewers etc. were being persuaded to distrust expertise and science and authority long before trans issues were a blip on the radar in the US.

Its easy to laugh at Trump's "gaffs" and repeat them endlessly - but they don't matter if you think reality is what you want it to be.

Well exactly. That's the point. It doesn't matter what people say on Earth 1. No policy is going to change that mindset, so why pander to it? Let the Republicans pander to those of us who find value in truth and fact.

2. Issues and the 2024 election

Most voters name several issues as very important to their vote. Economy is the top issue. Other important issues: health care, Supreme Court, foreign policy, crime, immigration, guns, abortion.

@Wallaw "Let the Republicans pander to those of us who find value in truth and fact." To be fair, I do agree with you on the importance of those! To get back on topic - the survey you linked to says that 55% of people have confidence Trump will make good decisions about the economy, but there is another survey below where 74% of voters apparently don't trust him to concede the election if he loses. That means presumably that there is a substantial number of people who do trust him with the economy, immigration, foreign policy but don't trust him not to try to fuck things up if he loses. Which seems crazy to me...

I think there's too much focus on Trump and not enough on Vance. If Trump falls ill (or has an irreversible disease, such as dementia), then we've got Vance as President. Given the fact that Trump is 78, I don't have much confidence in him lasting the full 4 years if elected.

At least with Harris, you know exactly what you are getting. With Trump, it's a true pig in a poke deal.

Vance is further right than Trump. Trump's politics are based on what is best for Trump and most likely to get Republicans to vote for him. He changed his strong opposition to electric cars in return for the Musk Tesla money.
But Vance is truly deeply conservative, and very much of the opinion that a woman's place is at home, having babies and serving her man. He's one black uniform away from being a Gilead Commander.
He's also dangerously intelligent

Trump's reaction to Harris releasing her medical report...
I don't THINK she's got Mpox, pretty sure it's hayfever

538 today, one week on from my last post is:

Predicted electoral college votes: Harris 279, Trump 259

So clearly a slight move towards Harris (last week the prediction was 273-265.) I can't see what's changed though as Trump remains slightly ahead in Arizona, N Carolina and Georgia and Harris ahead in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan and Nevada.

How the fuck can it be that close!

Talkinpeace · 16/10/2024 21:02

Read Twitter.
Delegating power to the states (even though its a lie) is a big grab
Women's rights (even though its a lie) is a big grab
Border control (even though its a lie) is a big grab

and the Biden presidency are STILL trying to undermine female only sport - in the country with the most successful Olympic teams in the world

I am seeing much too much hubris from Democrats
its scary

tobee · 16/10/2024 23:22

Does anyone know/remember what the polls were saying this amount of time before 2020 election?

Twitter is not representative of anything except posts on twitter.

As I posted yesterday, that issue doesn't even make the list of issues voters are concerned about. Step away from the sewer that x has become and take a deep breath. It's warping your perception and the algorithms are set to do exactly that.

Rachel Maddow on MSNBC last night, with proof, were any needed, that Trump is off his trolley:

I think I’m a little bit in love with Rachel…

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 17/10/2024 07:00

Also, Vice-President Harris is amazing here (in my opinion). I've not watched the rest of her interview with Fox yet, but was struck by this.
https://x.com/jrpsaki/status/1846691462773461451

How can Fox viewers fail to understand that Trump is a clear and present danger (or whatever the terminology is) to their country's democracy?

Does anyone know/remember what the polls were saying this amount of time before 2020 election?

I found this for 2020
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nationwide_opinion_polling_for_the_2020_United_States_presidential_election

The opinion polls gave Biden a lead of between 5% - 12%. Biden's actual vote exceeded Trump's by 4.5%.

And for 2016:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nationwide_opinion_polling_for_the_2016_United_States_presidential_election

The opinion polls gave Clinton a lead of 3%-5%. Clinton's actual vote exceeded Trump's by 2.1%.

So Trump's support has been understated though pollsters may have adjusted for that this time round. If they haven't, my guess is that Trump would win the election.

I expect Wikipedia has the results of opinion polls for individual states too. They might be more relevant.

"So Trump's support has been understated though pollsters may have adjusted for that this time round. If they haven't, my guess is that Trump would win the election."

Despite my being completely unable to fathom what goes on in the electorate's minds that would make this happen AGAIN, I agree with your guess, @TomPinch. Thank you for taking the trouble to find those figures.

BruceAndNosh · 17/10/2024 08:04

As expected, Trump has been on Truth Social, trashing Harris's Fox intervew. He said it showed she was mentally incompetent and she should have her cognitive ability tested AT ONCE.

Harris should agree... As long as Trump has exactly the same test at the same time (and not with Ronny Jackson)

Exactly. That's a real gift to Harris. His supporters won't dare let him near any sort of cognitive assessment.

BruceAndNosh · 17/10/2024 08:54

He'll be too busy to take a test, it's too close to the election...

Three different BIG news sources, none of which appear to have seen the same interview HCR did

I'm sorry, I missed something, I'm sure I'm being stupid, but what does HCR stand for?
