Non-fake, stable genius thanks to @Crucible for the new thread title.

Seniors' special today.*
They’re eating the dogs!
They’re eating the cats!
They’re eating the pets!...
So do you want fries with that cat? (*Apologies to non-MAGA seniors)

In other news, the swing states continue to be too close to call and it looks like it's going to be a nail-biting, buttock-clenching, hand-wringing 50 days to the election. (or thereabouts)

@Talkinpeace I agree, it must be frustrating to live in a strongly Red or Blue state and know that your vote is not going to influence the result

tobee · 02/10/2024 21:24

So it's October 2nd already. What's the October surprise going to be?

Surely not this? As it's not really surprising:-

I’d like to think those votes will serve to justify a win in the swing states, particularly if it’s a close call.

Probably the dock workers strike that’s going to leave empty shelves across the US

God, that's depressing. Because Biden and Harris control what dock workers do! I wish the general intelligence of Americans was higher and they wouldn't fall for this sort of nonsense.

Think it might be fair to say that Trump is not happy about Jack Smith’s filing being unsealed.

Think it might be fair to say that Trump is not happy about Jack Smith’s filing being unsealed.

As I understand it, if old Trump hadn't thrown everything at it to delay the unsealing, it would've come out before now and the heat might've died down somewhat. This is all down to him, he ran out of legitimate avenues to stop it

I want more Trump meltdowns like this. Daily if possible because only his diehard loon supporters listen to them.

Spandauer · 03/10/2024 12:05

PDF of Jack Smith's filing if anyone wants to read it. (165 pages...)
He's stripped out anything that could be discounted as presidential (therefore subject to immunity) so all the evidence etc is Trump acting as an independent individual. It's damming and clear evidence that Trump knew what he was doing.

”At its core, the defendant’s scheme was a private one."
“He extensively used private actors and his campaign infrastructure to attempt to overturn the election results and operated in a private capacity as a candidate for office.”

I have given up hope that he will ever be held accountable in a court of law. However if this enrages him, distracts him, sends him more doo-lally than he is already and takes a few days off his miserable life then I'll take it.

TLDR...

5 takeaways from the big new filing on Trump’s 2020 election plot
.
“So what,” “Make them riot,” “It doesn’t matter if you won or lost the election,” and what it all means legally and politically.

I’m loving that the names in it have been redacted in such a way that it’s possible to identify all the co-conspirators or people. Either by finding the original tweet that’s been quoted with names redacted or by things like P13, the defendent’s son-in-law. Well played Jack Smith.

Spandauer · 03/10/2024 14:00

Also worth a watch/listen.
"Worse than Nixon and Watergate" - but of course to the majority of MAGA voters that's ancient history and as relevant to them as the fecking Phoenicians!

Trump was so gleeful when Comey told everyone the FBI was exploring an investigation into Hillary Clinton's emails (they never did open an investigation) a few weeks before the 2016 election. Karma!!

Let's hope this has the same effect on the electorate as that did. But I don't think people care any more, after what feels like centuries of Trump's deliberate distortion of the truth and the casual acceptance of his outright denial of facts.

Oh but... Hillary's emails...

I hope the Dems (and MSM) are pushing the details about Trump from the unsealed filing as far as they can to keep it in the news, emphasising that this evidence is from the mouths of Trump's own people - not fake news, biased Dems etc etc. And it's only part of what Jack Smith has.

If Trump had gone to the Capitol on Jan 6th, as he said was going to, then it would have been an even bloodier outcome and he could be sitting in the WH now. He tried to go - the secret Service stopped him.

And SCOTUS's part in all this will probably save Trump again.

In spite of the mountain of Jack Smith's evidence, the Supreme Court protected Trump by giving him de facto immunity before the election.

Recall that Special Counsel Jack Smith asked SCOTUS to weigh in on Donald Trump's claim of presidential immunity on December 11, 2023. Smith requested that the Court bypass the usual appeals process and immediately address whether Trump can be prosecuted for efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

SCOTUS declined to give an answer which could have gotten this case into court in 2023.

Then, SCOTUS delayed hearings and waited until the last possible day to issue an immunity partial decision—kicking it back to the lower courts—on July 1, 2024. Again, causing further court delays.

A corrupt SCOTUS is singular reason Trump has yet to face accountability in court for his extensively-documented crimes against democracy.

Another good breakdown of the evidence:

Thanks OP, that summary is shocking, just shocking

And to think he is running again and could win?
How can it be, why don't checks and balances work?
Is it all down to the republican packed Supreme Court?
Stupid question here.... I understand that the supreme court could be expanded, why hasn't Biden done so?

Igotjelly · 04/10/2024 09:20

I was listening to TRIP US this morning and get a bit of a sense they think the momentum is currently moving towards Trump. I'll confess to not having been as much on top of it as I usually am but surely not!?

Biden has resisted reform of the SC for most of his political life... but since Roe vs Wade decision he has had a "re-set". But still holds back on expansion I think - more in favour of limiting terms of appointment.

As I understand, the president can't just sign an Executive Order appointing new judges and bypass Congress. So Congress would need to approve the decision and the candidates... and in a GOP led House of Representatives and an almost tied Senate it wouldn't pass... unless it was to their advantage. (US posters may have better info on this!)

GOP are already saying that if KH wins they will stall/refuse any new appointments to the SC - that's any replacement of current judges who may retire or expire.

Joe Biden is politicizing US supreme court reform – and that’s a good thing | US supreme court | The Guardian

Reining in the rogue court is a crucial goal with wide support from Americans across the political spectrum

@Igotjelly - from the podcasts I've heard (not the latest one yet) TRIP US generally tends towards believing Trump is going to win. They've made it very clear they believe this election hangs on a relatively small proportion of the "undecided" electorate - or at least, that's how I hear it?

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 04/10/2024 09:30

I wish Joe Biden would just stick a few good, young Democrats onto the Supreme Court as one of his last acts as a President before the election. (I know, I know, not possible.)

Yes this is my sense too though I also sense they’re well plugged in and know how to read the tea leaves so it concerns me that’s their prevailing view.

DuncinToffee · 04/10/2024 09:46

Trump is not taking Bruce Springsteen's endorsement of Harris well 😅

With immunity, thanks to SCOTUS.

borntobequiet · 04/10/2024 10:07

Was Trump deluded enough to think that Springsteen wouldn’t endorse Harris? (Rhetorical question.)

heldinadream · 04/10/2024 10:48

Wondering what you are all making of Melania's pronouncements in support of abortion rights in the last few hours?
I'm hearing analysis of it being to soften Trump's image in order to win over some votes.
I'm wondering if it's her going full on rogue! In which case, wow!
