Non-fake, stable genius thanks to @Crucible for the new thread title.

Seniors' special today.*
They’re eating the dogs!
They’re eating the cats!
They’re eating the pets!...
So do you want fries with that cat? (*Apologies to non-MAGA seniors)

In other news, the swing states continue to be too close to call and it looks like it's going to be a nail-biting, buttock-clenching, hand-wringing 50 days to the election. (or thereabouts)
Increase your anxiety with this handy countdown 😭

Look at the faces/eyes of the people behind him. Vacant, not listening, barely 'there'. Reacting only when someone leads a little applause/cheer. They are literally not comprehending what they are hearing.

Reports that some are paid $30-$50 to attend and then they leave half way through. Who knows...?

But these ignorant people will still vote for him on the day.

I was taken by that in this video too. They really do look like they'd rather be anywhere else. Are they really voters or just people desperate for $50?

Very disheartened that CBS has said they won't do any fact checking. Vance has already said publicly that he's happy to lie. It will be a big audience. Unless you've shed all sense of journalistic and integrity, this is exactly the platform to check the most egregious of them. Honestly, it's the normalising of flat out blatant lying that's I'm finding the most depressing part. I don't know how we undo that, even in a post-Trump world. It's why they don't care that everyone hates Vance. If he can lie the voters into a state of confusion and abject terror, they don't need to like him to hand him power.

ABC did a good job of showing how you fact check crazy in real time. Trump claims "they're eating cats" and instantly the moderator said "I've called the city manager and he said that has never happened." I agree though, it's disappointing CBS will allow Vance to spout all the lies, fabrications, exaggerations and weirdness for 90 minutes. Vance is an absolute slimeball and I seriously could see him saying anything to please his audience - Trump!

It is incredibly depressing and frustrating that a huge segment of the population believes anything the MAGGa crazies will say. Really makes me look at people (coworkers, distant family, parents at school) differently because statistically, some of them believe Trump and his nonsense.

PerkingFaintly · 30/09/2024 12:06

Those are visibly people who don't really want to be there, aren't they?

At best they're bored and not interested in TFG; at worst they're actively uncomfortable.

Lizz Truss at the Tory conference today

Asked to say something that will cheer up the audience, Liz Truss replies that "Donald Trump might win".

Big round of applause from the audience

heldinadream · 30/09/2024 13:21

@DuncinToffee Oh my god Liz Truss is such a fucking idiot.
But they applauded that? WTF is wrong with them?

There is quite a MAGA vibe from the clips that I have seen

pointythings · 30/09/2024 14:04

Thing is, the people who are at the conference were always the hardcore Toridiots. Now after their GE rout, that's been distilled into concentrated right wing toxicity, so Trumpmania is a logical result.

prettybird · 30/09/2024 14:53

Republicans/MAGAs are trying to make political capital out of the flooding in North Carolina, claiming that it has been "abandoned" Hmm

In truth, FEMA has been throwing resources at the very real needs there and There are search and rescue teams from 19 different states and the federal government in North Carolina right now. Confused

Communications have been badly affected, so people on the ground can't communicate easily what is being done.

But Trump and his campaign will try to have it both ways though: if the message starts landing that there are resources getting through, they'll claim it's only because the Democrats are trying to bribe the electorate in a swing state Hmm

DuncinToffee · 30/09/2024 15:53

Devastating scenes in N Carolina, more than 100 people have died

Spandauer · 30/09/2024 16:57

Vice President Kamala Harris has canceled campaign events Monday and plans to return early to Washington from Las Vegas for a briefing on the federal response to Hurricane Helene, which has killed dozens of people in six states. Former president Donald Trump, meanwhile, is scheduled to visit Valdosta, Ga., among the communities heavily impacted by the hurricane.

And will presumably throw paper towels at them, whilst at the same time using local resources which will be needed to 'protect' him etc.

Randy Rainbow latest.

rather than calling in FEMA.

Do these muppets realise that Project 2025 involves shutting down FEMA and the NOAA

Ban on abortions after 6 weeks in Georgia has been overturned.
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/sep/30/georgia-abortion-ban-overturned

The final paragraph of the report says it all really.

McBurney’s ruling arrives weeks after ProPublica reported that two Georgia women died after being unable to access legal abortions in the months after Roe was overturned.

Trump pretends its nothing to do with him and it's down to the states to decide but his hands are covered in their blood.

Abortion Bans Have Delayed Emergency Medical Care. In Georgia, Experts Say This Mother’s Death Was Preventable.

At least two women in Georgia died after they couldn’t access legal abortions and timely medical care in their state, ProPublica has found. This is one of their stories.

As per Heather Cox Richardson this morning
In other news today, in Georgia, Fulton County Superior Court judge Robert McBurney struck down the state’s six-week abortion ban, which prohibited abortions before many women know they’re pregnant, as unconstitutional. A government investigation recently showed that two Georgia women died after being unable to obtain abortion care in the state shortly after Georgia’s ban went into effect.
In a searing 26-page decision, the Republican-appointed judge wrote that the state cannot force a woman to carry a fetus that cannot live on its own. “Women are not some piece of collectively owned community property the disposition of which is decided by majority vote. Forcing a woman to carry an unwanted, not-yet-viable fetus to term violates her constitutional rights to liberty and privacy.”

Well they'll have to go then. Maybe a woman can be 3/5ths a man ?

Good news on the overturn.

As you may know, I love Rachael Maddow on MSNBC. What do you think of her latest piece, linked here? I'm more and more fearful that family of mine are well down this rabbit hole... how to show them???

DH and I were just talking about this. I think I'm actually running out of brain power to compute all the crazy/scary stuff that is coming out of the woodwork in the States. Trump is 'their' way in - if he gets elected they'll shut him down with a 25th amendment move and the rest of the inmates will take over the asylum whilst the tech bros just get richer and richer.

The GA decision that was overturned will be heading to an even more conservative appeals court. So for now, I'm not rejoicing.

LA classifying abortion pills as 'controlled subtstances' means that anybody receiving them will be put on a roster (PDMP) that is kept by individual states, just like someone who is Rx'd Vicodin or Methadone. The State of LA has one as do all states. This roster is accessible by any pharmacy, the DEA, and LA's Dept of Health or similar agency. It's just another way for the Govt to keep tabs on a woman's body or terrify her into not terminating.

VP debate tonite @ 6 pm PDT 'my time'. I'm doing the same as with the other one. Starting to watch but will DVR and change channels if it gets too nasty. My understanding is that Vance is a 'good debater' and that Walz doesn't have a lot of debate experience, although I'm sure he's been thoroughly prepped. I think it'll all come down to being able to keep his cool with insults and personal attacks.

BruceAndNosh · 01/10/2024 15:36

Walz has admitted he's not good at debating but he'll have been well prepped. The flip side is that Vance is incredibly good at making things worse every time he speaks. He is bound to end up dropping Trump in the shit. Trump is trying to sit in the fence on abortion and Vance will chainsaw the fence from underneath him.
Walz would be well advised to keep it short and simple and play out the rope for Vance to hang himself.
The converse is that Vance is very uncomfortable dealing with a crowd so should feel more comfortable if he can ignore the invisible TV audience and just address the moderators.

Vance is utterly vile and revolting but he's pretty smart. I fear his Yale law training will serve him pretty well in this circumstance.

Talkinpeace · 01/10/2024 15:50

Walz has a folksy charisma that will hopefully come through the screen and show Vance up to by cynical and vile.

I'll read the reviews tomorrow morning.

For now it is indeed Jimmy Carter's 100th Birthday
