Today i’m wearing a dress I bought from Topshop in 1999 and it got me wondering - what’s the oldest piece of clothing you wear? I don’t mean something vintage you once bought, or something inherited from an older relative, or even an accessory like a scarf. I mean a dress, skirt, top, pair of trousers etc. I’m intrigued to know, particularly in the fast fashion world we live in.

My trusty Birkenstocks from 2000 are still going strong! Although admittedly I only wear them 10-20x a year during the summer.

I've heard the new Birkenstocks don't last nearly as long as the older ones

I still wear my biker biker jacket circa 1990. If it could tell stories I'd like to hear them because there's so much I've forgotten over the years (probably for the best 🤣) It has my arse print on the back because I used to chuck it down on the floor at festivals etc and sit on it. It even saw me through most of my pregnancy (yes I was still riding pillion for the earlier months)
And it's amazing feature is it can hold a 70cl bottle of your choice (when you could sneak booze into gigs 😉) I love and wear it still. Think my child might like it one day when I grow up...

I have a dress that used to be my grandmother‘s undergarment. She embroidered her initials on it before getting married in 1933. So it‘s at least 91 years old. Still lovely thick cotton.

Ah! So special ❤️

I have a gorgeous black dress that was my mum's, she wore it in her twenties so it must be over 40 years old. I've had it since 2002, and I wear it as often as possible!

I have a sweatshirt that is about 33 years old. It is worn regularly around the house, but is too tatty to be seen in public.

My oldest fitting item is a leather skirt I purchasd over the web in 1992 - I had to confirm my order by fax!
I still have my Sixth Form Party dress but that fits my daughters now rather than me.

I have a silk and velvet jacket that I bought in Leeds in 1975 and it cost me a month's wages (around £40 iirc).
It's beautiful and hasn't dated at all.

I have a pink shirt that was part of my staff uniform when I worked at Richards in 1985. I still wear it every summer and it looks as good as it did 39 years ago
It certainly shows me how well High st clothes used to be made, compared to today.

I LOVED Richard Shops and used to buy so many of my clothes from there.
I still remember the words to the t.v. advert!
