I'm NE England. Heating has been on today. Really nippy here. I am coming down with a cold though so may be feeling colder than usual. Dh said it's cold too though.

Where are you if it's gone on?

I'm in south London and we've put the heating in for the first time today. I was so cold when I got up this morning and it's been lovely since the house warmed up.

Grmumpy · 12/09/2024 22:41

London..two hours on today..

cartwheelsandhandstands · 12/09/2024 22:46

This is interesting!

In Scotland and it’s not been on yet. We have wood burner and use that regularly though.

This week has been much colder

AdoraBell · 12/09/2024 22:48

SW, not quite cold enough for the heating but I’m wrapped up in warm socks and dressing gown.

TheGoddessMinerva · 12/09/2024 23:02

South west. Ours came on this morning, so it must have been quite cold overnight - the thermostat is set quite low. I put the log burner on this evening, so that took the edge off the cold tonight.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 12/09/2024 23:19

London. Ent on tonight for half an hour, more than enough. Main issue is getting washing dry. House is now hot, heating off and my bedroom windows are open.

henlake7 · 12/09/2024 20:47

South east and still leaving the window open during the day (it's cold but I'm trying to acclimate myself!LOL).
TBH I've seen people out today in shorts and tee shirts and big coats and scarves.....not to mention one very confused girl with a giant puffer coat with hood up and tiny shorts!

My kids are still in their Nike pro stupid shorts with massive hoodies. I'm still in shorts and flip flops too but my shirts have more coverage!

Trethew · 12/09/2024 23:22

South east Cornwall. Last year it was end of October

MrsAvocet · 12/09/2024 23:40

It's cold here in the far North West of England tonight. I've been all out all day and have just arrived home. I've not had the heating on but the house feels very chilly now so I've just made myself a hot water bottle rather than switch on the heating so close to going to bed. There's no cloud cover here tonight and the stars are amazing but it's properly cold. Summer, such as it was, has definitely gone.

dierama · 12/09/2024 23:42

I’ve had the fire on all week. Just stoked it right up in the hope that it will still have embers in the morning to make it easier to light again

Anisty · 12/09/2024 23:44

Eastern Scotland. On yesterday evening and this evening. Been very sunny today and yesterday, but not a lot of warmth in that sun.
Brought guinea pigs inside today from their garden hutch. They will stay indoors now til next Summer.

Kleptronic · 12/09/2024 23:45

North West, it came on by itself today, it's set to do that when the temperature dips below 18 degrees.

I don’t understand why some people refuse to put the heating it on until a particular time of year. Surely the date is irrelevant, if it’s cold put the heating on. I put mine on as soon as the house temp drops below 20C - life is too short to be uncomfortable and cold.

Of course I understand if cost is a factor but it seems some people just seem to think they’re superior for not putting their heating on until 27 November or whenever.

I totally agree with you. We hardly have seasons any more so no point in being cold for the sake of a 'date'!

dierama · 12/09/2024 23:58

Surely the only reasons for keeping it off are either cost or environmental impact. People are sitting there cold for the fun of it

WhiteTowel · 13/09/2024 08:26

South london. My sons room is in the loft so gets alot colder than the rest of the house. Only first thing in the morning before he wakes up. I could go without a bit longer but his room really gets cold 🥲

MouseofCommons · 13/09/2024 08:27

Hampshire.
Sun is out today though so at least I can get masses of things dry on the line.

Titsywoo · 13/09/2024 22:02

Mine hasn't clicked on yet (set at 18) but it was pretty close last night. Looks like it will warm up this week however here in the SE so hopefully won't be on for a while longer - my gas and electric bill has been high throughout the summer so winter will be awful.

Summertimer · 13/09/2024 22:05

I’m a doesn’t feel the cold person living with 2 people who are the opposite. 2 mornings this week DH has putt it on

alrightluv · 13/09/2024 22:30

Sunny but cold here today. Heating is back on tonight.

dierama · 14/09/2024 02:47

I managed to keep the log burner going all night yesterday. The ambient temperature in the house is definitely up despite Ddog wanting to go out and run in the garden every 10 minutes in and out of the door like a yo-yo

HowAmITheCatsGranny · 18/09/2024 11:37

Having had the heating on last week I was suddenly sitting in the garden yesterday, worrying if I needed sunscreen!

alrightluv · 18/09/2024 14:14

@HowAmITheCatsGranny same here. Sunny today no heating yet.

Threeboystwocatsandadog · 18/09/2024 14:40

It’s 22 degrees here today. Which is like it being 30 degrees in London! Unfortunately I made a huge pan of soup yesterday and a rhubarb crumble so we are in the living room, with the fan on eating hot soup. I think I will freeze the rest for next week when it’s supposed to be cooler.
