If you own your house, do you service your boiler annually?

Reading all the “shall I put the heating on?” posts, I’m surprised by how many people apparently have their boiler serviced regularly (appreciate this is mandatory if it’s a rented place, so I’m talking about homeowners who are meant to sort this stuff ourselves). How many of you are on the ball about this, please?

Got ours done yesterday even though it's only a year old.
Never got our other ones done, all lasted 20 years.

Penguinsa · 12/09/2024 19:05

We do as in terms and conditions for 13 year guarantee and also for house insurance as thatched.

thisiswheretheseagullfliesaway · 12/09/2024 19:05

Yes with a Gas Safe engineer.

Oneblindmouse · 12/09/2024 19:07

Yes. I had a new boiler installed when I bought my house and have a service plan with the installation company. The radiators and pipework are old and they are covered as well. They contact me in August each year to book my annual service for October. My heating came on automatically yesterday and today at 7am and I am happy it is all working properly.
When I moved into this house the boiler was working but it was over 25 years old. No way was I going to carry on using it.

Every 18-23 months, as our boiler emergency cover is void if not serviced for two years. We’ve had it ten years now and it’s got a slow drip.

You’ve prompted me to buy a carbon monoxide monitor, been on my to do list for far too long. Thanks!

merryandbrightdelight · 12/09/2024 19:12

We do - British Gas send me a reminder every year. We pay for cover with them so it's included in the price. Our boiler has a mind of its own but luckily, it's been behaving itself lately!

Waiting4Autumm · 12/09/2024 19:12

Yeah 100% because when you go to sell the house it's just best to have all that done and ticked off by your gas safe service!

FromCuddleLand · 12/09/2024 19:12

Of course

FuckMeUpFlorida · 12/09/2024 19:13

Yes every year.

Toddlerteaplease · 12/09/2024 19:14

Yes.

Anjo2011 · 12/09/2024 19:16

Yes. We have a yearly service included in our boiler cover.

GentleShark · 12/09/2024 19:16

Cowboys like British Gas just do a safety check. Its not a proper service.

BodenCardiganNot · 12/09/2024 19:17

Yes. Get next year's appointment sorted at the same time.

WallaceinAnderland · 12/09/2024 19:17

Yes, every year.

BellaVita · 12/09/2024 19:17

Yes, we do.

FacingTheWall · 12/09/2024 19:18

Nope, been here 17 years and had it done twice. Not had any issues with it at all.

Xmasbaby11 · 12/09/2024 19:18

Yes, we need it for the guarantee to be valid.

Oldermum84 · 12/09/2024 19:19

No. Got it done last year for the first time after living here 6 years.

We got a new boiler a couple of years ago, it included annual servicing for seven years but yes we did it before that anyway.

Merrow · 12/09/2024 19:20

No, although based on these messages maybe we should!

HalfaCider · 12/09/2024 19:20

Yes, every year

NewGreenDuck · 12/09/2024 19:22

Yes, to make sure it's safe, it's working at peak efficiency, to maintain the warranty, so the building insurance isn't compromised. I'd rather spend money and make sure all that is OK.

Drinkandthink · 12/09/2024 19:22

Yes we do. Every summer.

SherlocksDeerstalker · 12/09/2024 19:23

Yes - our buildings insurance is invalid if we don’t, so we’d be up shit creek if an incident occurred.
