Who is the most famous person alive today?

virgocatlover · 11/09/2024 18:22

As in, well known world wide by face or name.

I would say the Queen was up there when she was alive but not sure Charles would make the top 10 now.

Trump, Putin or Elon Musk perhaps?

Obviously there are many famous Hollywood actors and singers but are any the most famous worldwide where English isn't the first language?

I couldn't recognise a single sports player other than maybe David Beckham.

I've never watched it and I know a lot of people who aren't into football.

But even people who don't like Taylor Swift know who she is, what she looks like etc

I would say Trump or Taylor Swift based on the fact that I think many people (including non English speaking) would be able to see a picture of them and know who they are.

I wouldn't recognise Taylor Swift if she walked into the room. I am awful at facial recognition and something about her face is immediately forgettable to me. I find the same about Jennifer Lawrence. I don't know how to describe it.

Trump I'd say is way more famous and recognisable.

I'm not sure the older generation would recognise Ronaldo.

I would say they would recognise David Beckham more.

My parents aren't very much interested in soccer, they follow the world cup when it's on, that's about it. They'd recognise Ronaldo for sure. They most definitely wouldn't recognise Taylor Swift. I'm trying to guess who they would say if I asked them this question, I think they'd pick a political figure.

I agree with Trump.

Music is very age selective.

A lot of girls under 21 think that Taylor swift is the most important person in the world.

A lot of people over 40 will barely have heard of her and couldn't tell you what she looks like.

Politics affect everyone in some way. Thats why most people will be able to tell you who the current US president is

YourHangryQuail · 12/09/2024 10:18

The people who were the most famous in my life time were, Michael Jackson and Diana.

Nowadays, as much as it might sting I think Kim Kardashian is up there. The love to hate has propelled her notoriety.

YourHangryQuail · 12/09/2024 10:19

Oh yes, just reading Ronaldo is defo up there.

I think David Beckham is more well known because of Victoria Beckham as well and their brand.

quantumbutterfly · 12/09/2024 10:24

Meghan markle and her family have generated a lot of public interest.

I know that.

I meant she died in August (time of the year),

That's why I saw lots of posts on social media recently about her

WanOban · 12/09/2024 10:42

I’ve traveled a lot outside the west and footballers are the most widely known famous people. 20 years ago everyone knew who David Beckham was, he has a big brand and social media presence, so I’d say he’ll be up there. Football is the number 1 world sport.

Even in the US where football interest is low, he’s widely known.

I don't think it counts when the name is spelt out! But very interesting re the silhouettes

DeanElderberry · 12/09/2024 11:09

there is a tiny clue in the caption!

I’d say probably the Prince and Princess of Wales.

See om not even 100% sure I know who he is. This is why sports people don't count. I thought he was a tennis player, but I'm assuming soccer

Definitely not outside UK

DeanElderberry · 12/09/2024 11:29

the Prince and Princess of Wales

Even in Ireland I had to stop and think about which ones they are. It's not like the late QE2

Womanofcustard · 12/09/2024 11:35

Trump, sadly.

BrooookeDavis · 12/09/2024 11:37

Lionel Messi.

If you take off the western lens he is known throughout the world. Even more so than Ronaldo.

WanOban · 12/09/2024 11:38

Starlight1979 · 12/09/2024 09:07

In the world I would say either Ronaldo, David Beckham, Taylor Swift or Donald Trump.

Although whenever we have been on holiday / travelling, the one person that gets mentioned as soon as we say we're from the UK is Wayne Rooney?! So maybe him 😂

Yes I agree

Yes him and Ronaldo must be in the top 5 worldwide

But maybe KPop star rather than Taylor Swift for music?

Really? I couldn’t name a K pop star. I would recognise B2S (?) potentially if they were standing together in one of their outfits.

Hugh Jackman

😂
