Ive had D+V all night, cant even keep water down, bile coming up

No idea why, quite out of character for me

However OH has now got me some anti sickness tablets and some dioralyte and Im managing to keep it down. I feel utterly weak and achy.

I really really am craving that old style thick Lucozade, but it doesnt exist any more does it?

I got him to get me some coke although Im not keen on that.

Oh yes, and it came in glass bottles with the orange film stuff around it... you started feeling better as soon as you saw the bottle, and it tasted lovely. The slogan was 'Lucozade aids Recovery'. I miss it when I'm unwell, too.

Try 7up instead maybe? You're supposed to let it go flat first, apparently. It's not as good as the old Lucozade but it might help.

Hope you feel much better soon.

I think 7 up has artificial sweetners doesnt it? Im craving the sugar I think.

We're on holiday and shopping opportunities are a bit limited. It took him to go in to 2 chemists to get the things I needed.

Urgh, I used to hate that stuff - we literally only got it when we were sick as dogs. I don't remember it being thick mercifully, maybe they had diluted it by the 1980s?

Bonjovispjs · 11/09/2024 13:59

Ah, those were the days. Back in the 70s if we were ill, we were tucked up in bed with a bottle of Lucozade on the bedside table. Best part of being ill 😆

EdgeOfSixty · 11/09/2024 14:58

Ribena is also rubbish now. It used to be thick and syrupy, now it's weak and like coloured water.
What is the world coming to?

Pleasealexa · 11/09/2024 15:04

@DramaAlpaca What* *a delightful memory. I'm not sure why it felt special but the bottle and foil top added something to the experience.

It was sold in local chemist so you definitely had to ill to buy it 😀

ClemmyTine · 11/09/2024 15:07

Vimto used to be the same. Now very thin and apparently full of upf. I still drink it though.

Beth216 · 11/09/2024 15:29

DH is the same, i don't get it at all. Who ever thought Lucozade was healthy and something good for ill people? It's like diabetes and obesity all in one bottle.

thisoldcity · 11/09/2024 15:35

DH always asks for Lucozade when he's ill as if it's the elixir of life and I always have a panic around the shops trying to find it. He seems to think it's the same as he's always had (since the 1960s!). Lucozade and Heinz tomato soup, they are all he needs when he's ill. I'm the opposite and even the smell of Lucozade reminds me of being ill when I was a child, disgusting stuff!

DontBiteTheCat · 11/09/2024 15:38

I remember the old style Lucozade!

The new style Orange Lucozade is the only thing that used to cure my hangovers, so it gets a special mention too.

Downthemedow · 11/09/2024 15:41

This won’t help you right now OP, but a company called Todds in Belfast have the old recipe and are making a drink called Enerzade. I have 3 bottles winging their way to me right now, and I really hope the taste is the same!

pinkyredrose · 11/09/2024 15:42

I miss it too! It was considered a health drink in the 70s, my mum always used to take a bottle if she visited anyone in hospital.

Wasn’t it just! That Lucozade in the orange cellophane made everything better!

FrenchandSaunders · 11/09/2024 15:43

What a memory, tucked up in bed with stripey flannelette sheets, or the orange nylon ones! with a bottle of lucozade on the bedside table. Maybe a comic if you were lucky!

Traceysgoingtobelivid · 11/09/2024 15:46

I also miss Horlicks tablets!

Omg, I'd totally forgotten about the orange cellophane 😆

Well lots of people did not know that then, did they? It even said on the bottle that it replaced lost fluids. It was marketed as actively aiding recovery. Today's incarnation is an abomination imo.

YouveGotAFastCar · 11/09/2024 15:50

They still sell it, and original syrup-y Red Bull, in Malaysia!

They sell them in b&m!

Ilikewinter · 11/09/2024 15:54

Ah good old proper Lucozade, it's up there with Karvol capsules and proper smelling Germoline .... solved all my child illnesses!

DreadingWinter · 11/09/2024 15:56

It kept me alive during that hot summer of '76. I couldn't keep anything down. I was fainting and losing a huge amount of weight. It's all I could digest. My sole activity was walking with my toddler to the Co-op to exchange the bottle for the next one every day, like an addict. The result was my now 6ft 3in DS who wasn't harmed in the slightest by me vomiting for nine months ( even before my period was due). Bring back original Lucozade!

goingtotown · 11/09/2024 15:56

Please let this be true!

I'm just getting over the worst stomach bug I've ever had and I would have loved some proper old Lucozade.

Like you I was craving sugar and I can't have artificial sweeteners so I've been surviving off Coke and Tangfastics.

I normally can't cope with much sugar at all either so this has been really unlike me but this bug has been horrible and it's the only things that have easily stayed down.

Original 7 up doesn’t have artificial sweeteners.

It does contain potassium citrate (which google tells me us used to make urine less acidic) (Wikipedia says it’s used as a food additive to regulate acidity) and Sodium calcium edetate (which Wikipedia says is primarily used to treat lead poisoning.)
