I couldn’t sleep so figured I’d get out of bed to watch.

Anyone else? I have moved bedding to the sofa. Cat has joined me - coming out in support of the cat ladies.

About to get a cup of tea. I was about to join Pod Save America community so could access their discord but figured I’d try here first.

It's ok if he assignates himself. He's a really quick healer they say he's an amazing healer 😳

Priceless!😄😄

Do people really believe the stuff he trots out?

Sadly, many do. Just watched a programme where an American woman patrols the Mexican border with a herd of thugs, trying to scare them
She live-streams this public service.

Pet dogs and cats. The man’s bonkers. Trouble is, so are most of his supporters.

'@CurlewKate

The problem is that the MAGA people
actually don't care what he says. I think that's the mistake a lot of people make-they think that if Trump is proved to be the unhinged liar we know him to be that will make the Republican core voters change their minds. It won't. As he said, he could murder someone in the middle of Broadway they'd still vote for him. I don't know what the Democrats need to do to defeat him, but being reasonable and fact checking won't do it.....'

Exactly. MAGA is like a cult and certainly not based on logic or reason.

I watched the https://www.channel4.com/programmes/trump-should-we-be-scared documentary and it is quite concerning.

Fundamentalist Christians (who don't seem to be bothered that they are supporting a convicted felon), some business owners, the anti-abortion lot, the anti-immigrants, some latinos, men who don't like the idea of a black woman being president...there is a large part of the electorate who is going to vote for him no matter what he does or say.

Let's hope they are enough decent people who can see through his madness and who vote for Harris in the end.

That programme was scary.
Those fucking Mayflower separatists!

@Backwoods57"I am A Brit in the US who is on the fence, this debate didn't really help."

Can I ask-what are you in the fence about?

Genuinely, how do you have a policy discussion with Trump?

Backwoods57 · 11/09/2024 13:30

@CurlewKate the big things for me in this election will be Ukraine, Economy, and gun control.

Seems to be heavy-handed on both, Ukraine and gun control. Economic policies sound expensive at this point.

Backwoods57 · 11/09/2024 13:32

@JackGrealishsAliceBand I don't particularly like Trump. I don't think he's a particularly nice person, and I don't trust him however I don't really trust Kamala either. She just isn't inspiring confidence in me.

Backwoods57 · 11/09/2024 13:34

@CurlewKate it's impossible to have a sensible policy discussion with Trump as you never get an answer. But equally Kamala seems to be flip-flopping all over the place so I've got no idea what she's actually going to do.

Interesting that it came out last night he didn't actually seem to understand the tariffs that he's always banging on about.

There are lots of economists who have weighed in on her economic plan - it's all out there for the finding. For example, Goldman Sachs have endorsed hers over his, and the Wharton School (despite what Trump said last night) says this:
https://budgetmodel.wharton.upenn.edu/issues/2024/8/26/trump-campaign-policy-proposals-2024
and this:
https://budgetmodel.wharton.upenn.edu/issues/2024/8/26/harris-campaign-policy-proposals-2024

But if you're undecided at this point, I don't think anything on paper is going to decide it for you. Surely, the real answer is, if you were happy with him last time, and are willing to accept a supersized Trump agenda, you'll be happy with him again?

The 2024 Trump Campaign Policy Proposals: Budgetary, Economic and Distributional Effects — Penn Wharton Budget Model

We estimate that the Trump Campaign tax and spending proposals would increase primary deficits by $5.8 trillion over the next 10 years on a conventional basis and by $4.1 trillion on a dynamic basis that includes economic feedback effects. Households a...

Just caught up on the debate…Harris’ performance was 🔥🔥🔥

HRTQueen · 11/09/2024 17:38

I thought Harris was great, she handled him perfectly

The aim is for her to win over those undecided voters, if undecided on who would be the most capable President before last night I think there is a clear answer.

Trump supporters will continue to support him regardless of his performance or what he said/says between now and election day. As he said back in 2016 "I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose voters,” he knows the power he has with his supporters and Harris understand this too

CurlewKate · 11/09/2024 09:13

@dottiehens "Did she really say she owns a gun? I have a Democrat friend who’s only reason to support Democrats is the issue of guns."

Really? The ONLY reason they are a Democrat? 🤔

Yes, so what is your problem with it?

I think it's mostly because trump had shared an ai image of Taylor swift telling people to vote trump. It was a fairly convincing picture of her holding a trump banner (as well as some other uncle sam type images).

It's a good warning about the worrying use of ai/fake news to distort things as basic as pretending you have endorsements that you don't have.

It's not a massive surprise as she's previously voted Biden, but it feels like she has slightly forced into making a statement given how much the fake images were circulating with her own face on and being shared/ commented on as true from people like trump

I'd certainly comment if there were pictures of me holding a banner for a cause I was against, being shared by an expresident and his team

Edited

I'd have taken his ass to court for defamation of character. He'd settle it like he does all the things he's sued for, because he's guilty in every case.

Folks, after that debate, I expect a new culinary delicacy to soon hit restaurants in all the blue states; smoked orange.

Taylor Swift!!

Well the day I vote for what a billionaire celebrity tells me. Never because I am not a moron. This is so ridiculous and talk about a cult he,he.. right! Got it.

Ironic, given that Trump is a (alleged) billionaire celebrity. At least Swift earned her wealth.

KenAdams · 11/09/2024 23:11

I don't know why his opponents don't ever ask him to prove anything he's saying. Like the Kamala pays people to attend rallies thing. Just ask him to prove it! He can't back up 99% of what he says. Someone's going to ask me to prove it aren't they...

I don't know if you read her post, but she's very well spoken. Maybe you could learn something?

And I don't think the point is that people need to vote for her choice, it's that the Trump camp used her name and image falsely, which is not ok, so she's speaking out and raising awareness. Everyone has the right to vote based on their beliefs, as she's doing, and I think it's great that she's encouraging legions of young women to register and vote.

@dottiehens did you miss the bit where it was explained she had to defend herself due to the AI generated media suggesting she supported the orange one ?

If you read what she posted, it is very articulate and suggests people make up their own minds.

Even with Trump insisting to have won the debate “by a lot”,* *Republicans were virtually unanimous that Trump had come off second best in a series of exchanges that saw the vice-president deliberately bait him on his weak points while he responded with visible anger.’ 🥹

Among many issues I could mention, Project 2025, the overturn of Roe vs. Wade, climate change denial along with ‘drill baby drill”, and trump’s admiration for orban, putin, and the fat north korean dictator (his name escapes me) do not inspire confidence in me.

I know that unlike trump, Kamala Harris has no intention to ‘suspend’ the constitution, nor to embed herself as a dictator, nor to question election results in an effort to overthrow the voter’s will, nor to coerce states to manufacture more votes for her, nor to throw out results of the election and have electors certify the loser instead. Those points by themselves are ample reason to vote for her.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 12/09/2024 18:43

Beautifully put, @LuckyPeonies, I wish I'd been able to formulate my thoughts as well as you have done.

prettybird · 12/09/2024 19:10

The very fact that the world leaders that Trump refers to are and with who he has supposedly such great relationships are: Putin, Xi..... and Orban Hmm Tells you everything about the company he keeps and the attributes he admires. Hmm

"Let me just tell you about world leaders. Viktor Orban, one of the most respected men -- they call him a strong man. He's a tough person. Smart. Prime Minister of Hungary."
