Happy to see Princess Kate doing so well, but...

I'm really glad to see Kate doing so well, and I am glad she has finished chemo looking so healthy and happy. However my sister and I cannot stop laughing at the video Kensington Palace have just released.

We think the video has a striking resemblance to the Twilight films, only warm toned and shorter.

Narration - check
Holding hands while lying down in a meadow - check
Tree climbing - check
Stacks of logs - check
Dramatic sweeping shots of trees - check

I was waiting for William to say something really cringy while giving Kate a piggy back ride.

The Princess of Wales has been receiving adjuvant chemotherapy following abdominal surgery and subsequent histology showing that cancer had been present. So yes she has been diagnosed with cancer.

Hope this helps clear this up for you as you seem confused

PrawnofthePatriarchy · 09/09/2024 20:34

I found it very moving, but then my DH died of cancer when our two were still at primary school so it hits particularly hard. It made me feel grateful that she at least is on the mend. I so much hope she lives to a ripe old age.

CombatLingerie · 09/09/2024 20:34

@roses2 a bit brutal but I tend to agree with you. I think the video was bizarre.

It's a strange video, almost stepford wives vibes.

It's nothing like Stepford Wives! Did you even see that film?!

Holidaysrule · 09/09/2024 20:34

From a PR point of view I think it’s a nightmare and I have no idea why the people around her would allow that to be released.
Having said that, I’m not one of the most famous or photographed women on the planet, I don’t have cancer and I’m not a mother of 3 small children who I’m terrified for and desperate to protect. She probably doesn’t give 2 fucks that it looks like a Jet2 advert. She just wants to live to see her kids grow up.

ArtyStars · 09/09/2024 20:35

She seems so lovely as does the whole family. The video is very lovely I like the style and Kate has of course matured and her whole family must have been through so much.

Wishing her all the best.

Teddleshon · 09/09/2024 20:35

What do people mean that most cancer sufferers can't spend time outdoors with their family? Not my experience.

I'm sorry for your loss, that's hard. 💐
What a dreadful thing to have to deal with, particularly when you have young children.

I don’t know what the people who are complaining about twee cliché wanted to see. A remake of Saltburn? Featuring Megan Thee Stallion?

And I think she didn’t say “I am now cancer-free” because that was already the case. It was preventative chemo, so presumably they got all the cancer cells with previous surgery. This was just to make sure none resurfaced.

And point 3, I really like her dress. I notice she’s still wearing white trainers with it.

Actions would speak louder. If she had gone back to work - maybe a visit to a cancer clinic or research facility - would have been infinitely more impressive than this self indulgent twaddle.

NonsuchCastle · 09/09/2024 20:37

I think that is brilliant.

outdamnedspots · 09/09/2024 20:37

I liked it. Very intimate and moving.

I have also been surprised by how long her 'preventative' chemo lasted.

Rosemaryandolives · 09/09/2024 20:37

This is a really surprising thread.

I’m delighted she is recovering and has been able to enjoy the Summer with her family.

She released a really personal message during a difficult period in her life and I’m amazed Mumsnetters can be so unkind to another Mum who must have been so worried about her and her children’s future.

mathanxiety · 09/09/2024 20:39

It's a little cheesy and overdone, but overall nice, and it's good to see Michael and Carol Middleton making a subtle appearance. Wishing them all well.

Love her dress.

This. I'm revolted by the incredibly spiteful comments on this thread. Some people on here are really vicious and cruel.

@Holidaysrule why is it a nightmare from a PR perspective?

Harry & Meghan have been getting a lot of publicity in the news lately. I wonder whether this is the Cambridges' way of getting into news and stealing their thunder.

Could they have not given the tens of thousands of pounds this would have cost to produce to a cancer charity or are they giving a donation as well?

They could have done, but they chose not to. They chose to rub our faces in their wealth and privilege instead. Nice.

I wish her well and I'm pleased that she appears to be on the mend. The video is a bit twee, it's stylised too much.
I'm not sure why it's been released and how it's supposed to help other cancer sufferers? I've known friends with cancer and they're too busy trying to get back to work asap, paying their bills, organising childcare and getting on with things, totally removed from Kate's experiences with the limited time and resource they've been faced with.
I suppose if it's inspired anyone and given them hope, it's been worth it.

Exactly this

RogueFemale · 09/09/2024 20:41

Cringe de la cringe.

myfitbitisfucked · 09/09/2024 20:42

Nobody is nasty or joy sucking in finding that video inappropriate or mawkish. I find it gross and insulting to the enormous health inequalities and struggles millions face. Nothing inspirational or touching about it at all. Given that over 30% of people won’t receive the prompt treatment she has it becomes even more ill judged. People who have actually been diagnosed with a detectable cancer not waiting for treatment as a preventative course of action.

Cancer treatment waiting times are the worst ever on record and as a result there will be an enormous amount of people that won’t get this chance to take the simple things for granted again.
Perhaps they should donate a massive amount of their private wealth to tackling cancer for the masses - who don’t have a hope of being cosseted or get to waft around in floaty dresses in a cornfield - and it might be more poignant for the fact that one in two of us face this horror in our lives.

When you have cancer you have a free pass to be as “twee” or “cringey” as you want in my book.
I have cancer myself.
We all cope with things differently.
Incredibly nasty minded OP to start such a post. Let’s see how you deal with things if you are ever in this horrible position.

100%

I wish you lots of luck

How do you know what they have / haven't donated to charity given that they don't tend to publicise their charitable giving...
