Happy to see Princess Kate doing so well, but...

I'm really glad to see Kate doing so well, and I am glad she has finished chemo looking so healthy and happy. However my sister and I cannot stop laughing at the video Kensington Palace have just released.

We think the video has a striking resemblance to the Twilight films, only warm toned and shorter.

Narration - check
Holding hands while lying down in a meadow - check
Tree climbing - check
Stacks of logs - check
Dramatic sweeping shots of trees - check

I was waiting for William to say something really cringy while giving Kate a piggy back ride.

I quite liked it. I’m so glad she’s doing well. The parts with her and her children brought a tear to my eye - they must of been so worried about their mum.

@Hallamlass I am not saying they should interfere. Just answering the overall question about who is in charge,

William and Catherine are in charge of themselves and their family. They're not doing an official duty or representing the Head of State.
Maybe KC and QC are just happy for them.

I sort of see your point but really when has she NOT made family and personal life her priority? She has never had an onerous round of engagements and those that she does undertake are fairly light lifting.

If she needs more time off, more power to her, but it's not like she's been a 60-hour-per-week professional up till now and is jumping out of the rat race.

I agree, Catherine has always made her family her priority. She has always said explicitly that she is not doing many engagements so she can spend time with her children.

@Hallamlass In the Royal Family the Monarch is in charge. That is how it works. Other members of the Royal Family make decisions about their life, but when it comes to the overall Royal Family. Charles and Camilla are in charge.

Some people are just so horrible. So many just sucking the joy out of every last bloody thing.

They must be big fans of Gladiator! I know I am.

I read Catherine's words in the news earlier, and found them to be honest and filled with gratitude for her positive health report an the end of her half-year of gruelling chemotherapy. To see this video, narrated by Catherine, was beautiful, a gift to those who are genuinely interested in her, and happy for her recovery. I saw nothing strange about the production, it was personal and positive and heart-warming to see the happiness in the family's faces, especially the children's. Making light of it serves no purpose but to show yourself up as someone who's never faced a serious illness, or cared for someone, yet, who has.

Icannoteven · 09/09/2024 20:14

It reminds me of the ‘dead wife montage’ movie trope. I expected to see them rolling around in a bed in white billowy sheets next.

Not in their private lives.
KC and QC seem like decent folk. They're not going to stop them doing this.
Going on some mad, irresponsible tour?.yes.
An innocent film to celebrate a good result from cancer treatment?. Nope.

overgrowntoddler · 09/09/2024 20:14

I loved it too so poignant

Love seeing them enjoying Beautiful UK forest.

Such contrast to the spring video

Such a contrast the previous generations of RF.

Hallamlass · 09/09/2024 20:16

I like the bit about gratitude, because we can all take stuff for granted, whatever the level of privilege. It's just the basics which are so important.

StrugglingGrief · 09/09/2024 20:18

Could only watch the first few seconds - but well done Kate what a difficult time.

DramaLlamaBangBang · 09/09/2024 20:19

It's a bit twee and cheesy but they know who their audience are. Royalists will love it and fall over themselves in admiration of her bravery. Everyone else will do what they do. Ignore it, laugh at the Center Parks ad nature of it, point out that she has had the best possible treatment and care. I doubt they care what those people think.

Pallisers · 09/09/2024 20:19

I'm really glad she is doing well and I thought the narration/actual words were pretty good. And top marks to her for correctly saying "This time has above all reminded William and me" William and Harry have both been guilty of the terrible "reminded William and I"

The video itself was definitely way over the top into shampoo ad for my taste - but there were nice bits of them as a family.

tothelefttotheleft · 09/09/2024 20:20

@lightsandtunnels

It's not a leveller. She won't have had to wait longer than NICE guidelines for her operation. She won't have had to wait for chemo. When undertaking chemo she won't have had to sit on the floor because it's so busy. She won't have waited hours for her chemo to start. I could go on and on.

Her experience and mine will have been miles apart.

ThatsMyCheese · 09/09/2024 20:22

Glad she's doing ok but yes, that video was awful.

Beautiful film
Beautiful family
Beautiful sentiment and statement

But it just didn't work together. I feel they were trying to replicate the nostalgia of the old footage of previous royal generations but missed the mark. It's a shame. They didn't need to do this.

This is a little bit what I felt. I am pleased she is recovering, as well as the King. I think their openness could help others. But I was also thinking back to the initial statements which said preventative treatment. Almost implying cancerous cells caught quite early, no big deal. I'm not convinced that what has been released since supports that. So even more I hope she continues to recover strongly. But also thinking hard about normal families who have to deal with this whilst still working and worrying about treatment.

Issued statements and monologues came in for some vile criticism before, including some threads on here, and some of the usual conspiracy nonsense. They can't win, so they may as well please themselves.

anotherside · 09/09/2024 20:26

…… annnnd CUT!

It’s great that’s she’s on the mend, but the video is weird. It’s like a commercial. Strong Truman Show vibes. Reality as soap opera. I’m sure the royalists will lap it up though.

blueshoes · 09/09/2024 20:27

BettyBardMacDonald · 09/09/2024 19:59

Yeah, this. It seems remarkably tone deaf, as most cancer patients can't frolic soulfully in isolated natural settings, with their spouse by their side. And many cancer patients don't have hope and light, they have a dismal time ahead of them, and possibly all for naught.

I'm very happy that she is doing well and even kept her long flowing hair (unlike many cancer patients) but the video was 2x as long as necessary and really underscores her extreme privilege.

Completely agree.

I am happy for her and her family but this is unnecessary and rubbing it in the face of normal cancer sufferers who are not financed by the state, including the production of this somewhat pointless self-indulgent happy families video.

TeaMistress · 09/09/2024 20:28

It was beautiful. I'm really glad to see that the Princess of Wales has completed her adjuvant chemotherapy treatment. It was really moving to see her with her husband and children and wider family. Her focus is on staying cancer free and if she wants to prioritise her time with her family that's absolutely fine.

For the people making cruel, mocking nasty comments about her and the video she has released, maybe they should have a really good look at themselves if they think their spiteful hateful comments are funny....maybe they should ask themselves what that kind of behaviour says about them.

It's a strange video, almost stepford wives vibes.
