Happy to see Princess Kate doing so well, but...

I'm really glad to see Kate doing so well, and I am glad she has finished chemo looking so healthy and happy. However my sister and I cannot stop laughing at the video Kensington Palace have just released.

We think the video has a striking resemblance to the Twilight films, only warm toned and shorter.

Narration - check
Holding hands while lying down in a meadow - check
Tree climbing - check
Stacks of logs - check
Dramatic sweeping shots of trees - check

I was waiting for William to say something really cringy while giving Kate a piggy back ride.

I think it was a “soft” way,of indicating to the public that she won’t return to public duties in the same way again. The clear messaging about her priority being reevaluated etc. signalling that she will not put duty first and will focus on her health and family.

So she's going to do even less than before? Good grief.

@Misfitmissy that take on the video actually makes a lot of sense.

Schweet, weird, cheering and she’s not coming back to work.

Makes one horribly sorry for all the poor women who battle onward, coping with jobs and DC. That’s not a criticism.

Teddleshon · 09/09/2024 20:48

From the tone of some of these messages it seems that posters would be happier if she had received appalling medical care.

HollyKnight · 09/09/2024 20:51

It's not real though. I don't understand how people think it is. All the hugging and frolicking and gazing into the distance...was for the camera in front of them. The camera didn't just happen to catch the children billygoatting up those logs. Kate didn't just happen to pick up a stone from the ground as the camera panned around her. That scene of her and William lying on the ground laughing and touching each other...there was literally a cameraman (or woman) standing right over the top of them lol. All those scenes had shots from multiple angles. It was scripted and directed. Performative.

This. I'm revolted by the incredibly spiteful comments on this thread. Some people on here are really vicious and cruel.

Thank you, I rarely post on here but I felt compelled to.

While I hope her and her family and friends don’t read this thread, if they do, they will realise that there are people who don’t know her, who still care and respect her, and her approach to her recovery.

Not in their private lives.
KC and QC seem like decent folk. They're not going to stop them doing this.
Going on some mad, irresponsible tour?.yes.
An innocent film to celebrate a good result from cancer treatment?. Nope.

The Monarch had to give permission for them to marry. The Monarch may decide to give Royal Family members permission for what they want to do, but they do have power over the other Royal Family members. It is strange to see you denying that.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 09/09/2024 20:53

I got all twitchy about the log climbing,it was like a 1970s school danger film 😱

Of course not. No one has said that, not one poster.

TeaMistress · 09/09/2024 20:54

There are some thoroughly vile people on here. None of us have any idea what the prognosis is for Catherine and whether she has had an aggressive or metastatic form of the disease with more of a likelihood of recurrence or spread. If Catherine wants to prioritise her health and spending precious time with her loved ones that's absolutely fine. Anyone whinging about her not going back to work needs to give their heads a wobble. If she wants to make memories with her family whilst she is well enough then that's absolutely what she should do.

anxietyaardvark · 09/09/2024 20:55

I thought that the video was bizarre. Like a pop video or a luxury Centre Parcs ad. I'm really not sure what the point of it was other than signalling their extreme privilege.

That was the Royal Marriages Act.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but there's no law pertaining to this.
KC and QC are neither so crass, unfeeling or arrogant as to interfere with this couple's response to her positive news. They have released a statement saying how happy they are that C is recovering.
It's strange how little you know about our Constitutional Monarchy, and the limits thereof.

But I mean... how many public duties did she undertake before cancer? Attending dinners, premieres, ??

Just found one site that said she had 90 public engagements in 2022. That means she had 75% of days of the year with zero public engagements. (or more than 75%, assuming some days had more than one stop...)

So "stepping back" from that low level of work is extreme privilege no matter how one looks at it. I don't begrudge her but she is not exactly hand in hand with the vast majority of cancer patients who still have to worry about paying the bills.

Campaigning for more paid leave and other support for ALL cancer patients might be a good project for her in the future.

Pallisers · 09/09/2024 20:19

I'm really glad she is doing well and I thought the narration/actual words were pretty good. And top marks to her for correctly saying "This time has above all reminded William and me" William and Harry have both been guilty of the terrible "reminded William and I"

The video itself was definitely way over the top into shampoo ad for my taste - but there were nice bits of them as a family.

Agree!

Especially wrt that "William and me".

3luckystars · 09/09/2024 20:56

They are taking their media into their own hands. Well done to them.

KreedKafer · 09/09/2024 20:56

I mean, pleased for her that she’s not dead but this video made me cringe myself inside out.

Pebbles16 · 09/09/2024 20:57

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 09/09/2024 18:50

I wondered how much it cost too. And who paid. And how much that compares to say, the cost of a straight piece to camera message from her.

I suspect they probably paid for it themselves. Not like they are short of a bob or two.
Their expenditure is heavily scrutinised and there is little evidence of private expenses being passed on to the public purse.
As for its value, I would say pretty high: it engages a global audience (tourism); it gives a message of hope (universal); and it uses UK talent to showcase our country's skills (William Warr)

Gagaandgag · 09/09/2024 20:57

Really like her speech

EveryTree · 09/09/2024 20:57

@BettyBardMacDonald she is signalling she will only go to the tennis, film premieres, Christmas Day walk to church and play the piano at the annual Carol concert.

Viviennemary · 09/09/2024 20:57

I'm glad she is getting better, But I thought the video was unnecessary and over the top.

What a crock of shit.

it would just be nicer if everyone received prompt effective life saving or prolonging treatment and care when diagnosed with cancer. As opposed to about two thirds of them. And could subsequently wax lyrical about it and post it on YouTube with their family.

Efrogwraig · 09/09/2024 21:00

Very glad she is in recovery. Still a way to go. She is lucky to be able to take it slowly.
Please no more videos.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 09/09/2024 21:01

I think if this her signaling she’s giving up royal duties, or scaling them back to the bone of only a few big events a year, the backlash isn’t going to be pretty.
