Happy to see Princess Kate doing so well, but...

I'm really glad to see Kate doing so well, and I am glad she has finished chemo looking so healthy and happy. However my sister and I cannot stop laughing at the video Kensington Palace have just released.

We think the video has a striking resemblance to the Twilight films, only warm toned and shorter.

Narration - check
Holding hands while lying down in a meadow - check
Tree climbing - check
Stacks of logs - check
Dramatic sweeping shots of trees - check

I was waiting for William to say something really cringy while giving Kate a piggy back ride.

There are some horrid people on this thread.

A mum of three has been treated for cancer. Whilst she isn't the first and won't be the last, this mum is one day going to be Queen of The United Kingdom and the Commonwealth. Millions of people across the world care about her health and her family.

A statement is old school Royals. A video is new Royals. This is how you would expect the future King to engage with the Insta generation he will one day be the head of state of.

Someone needs to remind some of you that if you haven't got anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all.

The video style will suit some, it won't suit others. I'm sure it suited the family, else it would never have been released.

Personally, I had my eyes on the fact that she's not wearing her engagement ring. I was glad about this, as no one wants that jewel getting saltwater and logs all over it.

I'm honestly not being goady here but are you serious about the ring or was that a joke?

Lavenderandbrown · 09/09/2024 19:59

She can do no wrong in my eyes. Shes beautiful and perfect to me and the video made me cry. I’m so happy she is feeling better and enjoyed seeing her and William and their children. It’s Instagram worthy in an Instagram world. Well done Catherine many healthy years ahead for you.

I wish her well and I'm pleased that she appears to be on the mend. The video is a bit twee, it's stylised too much.
I'm not sure why it's been released and how it's supposed to help other cancer sufferers? I've known friends with cancer and they're too busy trying to get back to work asap, paying their bills, organising childcare and getting on with things, totally removed from Kate's experiences with the limited time and resource they've been faced with.
I suppose if it's inspired anyone and given them hope, it's been worth it.

Yeah, this. It seems remarkably tone deaf, as most cancer patients can't frolic soulfully in isolated natural settings, with their spouse by their side. And many cancer patients don't have hope and light, they have a dismal time ahead of them, and possibly all for naught.

I'm very happy that she is doing well and even kept her long flowing hair (unlike many cancer patients) but the video was 2x as long as necessary and really underscores her extreme privilege.

Haha that’s so true!

I found it touching and they were really physically affectionate. Noticed she wasn’t wearing her Diana ring.

Dearg · 09/09/2024 20:00

I am glad that she seems to be making good progress. Anyone who has been at this stage - end of chemo, appearing cancer free- will understand the tendency to look over one’s shoulder, to not quite believe in your remission. Also to understand the impact on your loved ones, and the great stress they will have had.

She did not owe us this video. I agree it’s quite schmaltzy; but I enjoyed seeing the family appear to relax, and glad she had good news to share.

@RedHotChilliPreppers Catherine's focus has always been her family and she said that before she had cancer as well.

Wingingit11 · 09/09/2024 20:01

HRTWT but I thought it was really beautiful. It really felt (purposefully I am sure) that the theme of basic but beautiful nature and family at forefront chimes with “it could be anyone”

HollyKnight · 09/09/2024 20:02

That's great news. I agree that the video is a strange decision though. I don't really know why they chose to do that rather than just have her give her good news while sitting on a bench in the garden. The way it was going I kind of thought there was going to be some cancer charities or helpline information given at the end of the video, but no. I'm not really sure why all that frolicking around - while pretending there isn't a production crew filming it - was necessary.

GorgeousTulips · 09/09/2024 20:03

It’s a beautiful film but would have been better kept private for their children to watch in the future. It feels too personal and a bit manipulative. Very glad she’s on the mend however.

It's revolting. "Look at my lovely life, that none of you plebs can hope to get close to. I've been ill with something 50% of people get, but you all have to talk about how brave I am, and thanks to the best treatment money can buy, I'm nice and well again."

Who are "the establishment" ?.

LindorDoubleChoc · 09/09/2024 20:04

JFC! I can't imagine laughing about anyone posting a video about their cancer treatment.

😂😂 yes very twilight indeed!! Even down to the bar and ball shot... remember they played cricket in the film (or whatever it's called that they were playing 🤪)

Who are "the establishment" ?.

In this context it would be Charles and Camilla as they are in charge.

Hjsjshsn · 09/09/2024 20:05

Could they have not given the tens of thousands of pounds this would have cost to produce to a cancer charity or are they giving a donation as well?

AmusedMaker · 09/09/2024 20:06

I thought it was lovely.
very moving actually.

I wish Kate all the very best.

I think they probably don't like to interfere too much. Plus KC is having his own health battle. Probably doesn't want to be too controlling or petty about his son's happy family.
Let it be.

BettyBardMacDonald · 09/09/2024 20:07

RedHotChilliPreppers · 09/09/2024 19:55

I took from that a few messages.

A message of support to those suffering from cancer and their families.

A message to say that her priorities have changed and it’s all about family now

A message to say she’ll be back at work a bit, but the soap opera brain dead Brits are no longer her priority, so don’t bank on things ever going back to normal.

I think Kate has had an epiphany. The stress of being a Queen in waiting, the family dramas, popping out 3 heirs when it made her so sick she had to be admitted to hospital, the media hyenas, have all contributed to her being ill and she’s decided, fuck that. I just want to be with my DC and the Middletons.

I sort of see your point but really when has she NOT made family and personal life her priority? She has never had an onerous round of engagements and those that she does undertake are fairly light lifting.

If she needs more time off, more power to her, but it's not like she's been a 60-hour-per-week professional up till now and is jumping out of the rat race.

JustPassingThyme · 09/09/2024 20:07

I'm not mocking Kate or cancer, just the video. They say a picture is worth a thousand words. So here are two pictures to illustrate my point for those who struggled to comprehend my words.

The whole family look so beautiful, and I couldn't be happier for them and it is lovely.
It's just the editing / styling of the video is a little reminiscent of a mushroom trip.

EveryTree · 09/09/2024 20:08

@Hallamlass I am not saying they should interfere. Just answering the overall question about who is in charge,

Hallamlass · 09/09/2024 20:08

My kids climbed trees. We weren't copying whatever that film is.
