Happy to see Princess Kate doing so well, but...

I'm really glad to see Kate doing so well, and I am glad she has finished chemo looking so healthy and happy. However my sister and I cannot stop laughing at the video Kensington Palace have just released.

We think the video has a striking resemblance to the Twilight films, only warm toned and shorter.

Narration - check
Holding hands while lying down in a meadow - check
Tree climbing - check
Stacks of logs - check
Dramatic sweeping shots of trees - check

I was waiting for William to say something really cringy while giving Kate a piggy back ride.

I’m so glad that she’s getting better. But what the fuck did I just watch?! Ridiculous and so cringey. Yuck

I haven’t been through cancer myself but my 14 year old daughter has. She commented on how privileged the Royal life is - both after this video and commented on Catherine’s appearance at Wimbledon when she pointed out that Catherine was praised for attending something that hundreds of other patients with cancer would absolutely love to do but never get the chance to. Charities like make a wish try to help young patients fulfil their dreams, but they still never have a hope of accessing everything Kate can, either in terms of support through treatment or access to amazing experiences that give them a bit of hope and enjoyment to keep plodding on.

I think your post says it all in a very dignified way VioletMouse.

I’m so sorry that your dd has had to confront this horrible disease at such a young age 💐

You do realise they would have repeated the 'physical affection' clips quite a number of times to get the right shots? This was a production.

This is what struck me most - it was a production.

But I wonder if there is a generational difference here. I'm in my late 50s and the idea of someone producing a video of me and dh being affectionate with each other in such a clearly directed and curated way - just couldn't bear it. And I find it hard to watch others doing it - it really is cringe to me no matter who you are.

But maybe younger people used to selfies and putting stuff in a deliberate way on social media relate to it more. I certainly don't expect to be directed in a film clip of my life that other people can then look at all over the world - but I think that may be because of my age so lots of people will relate to this- they do it themselves on social media.

So if she says nothing and asks for privacy conspiracy theorists believe she has been murdered and the royal family are covering it up.
If she opens herself up and shares more personal family videos she is twee, self indulgent and removed from reality.

I'm glad I'm not in the public eye and don't face this constant scrutiny and judgement.

With respect, there is a happy medium path between those two positions, which her professional advisors are paid to navigate.

Royalty must tread a fine line between being “above” public opinion (not pandering to the wacky nut jobs who propagate wierd conspiracies) and keeping them relevant, appropriate and credible.

I’m sorry but I think this film achieved none of those things and was very ill advised.

I thought it was awful and frankly really weird. Not sure why they felt the need to do this.

I found it beautiful and very moving.

There are some very bizarre people posting here!

I love it! It's unprecedented to get such access to the RF's private life.

I don't know why people just can't be happy for them. None of the drama of the Montecito Two!

ThenYouCrossMe · 10/09/2024 04:25

This isn't their private life. They knew they were being filmed and would have acted accordingly. Things will have been shot multiple times to get things right, lighting etc.

Having seen some of your posts on the RF board, this is very ironic.

I love it. They're going to be a fantastic King and Queen.

Disagree. They are both lazy and workshy.

Lol No they wouldn't!

They would have simply filmed a day out with them and pieced together the best parts.

They'd have ideas of certain shots but this isn't a film.

If you watch edited wedding videos, this is the same thing.

No but I suspect they’ll focus more on the message she was sharing than a critique of film style.

"Cancer journey" going on in our family and i dislike this video.

She has the benefit of loads of time offf work to "focus on recovery" and "remain cancer free" but is with us in spirit?

Bugger off your Highness. Seriously, bugger bloody off.

stripybobblehat · 10/09/2024 05:25

I wish her well

They will have. Angles and lighting. They basically have made a mini film and some people are thinking they've got an insight into their private life. 😂

@ThenYouCrossMe - honestly!

Some people have no wits at all.

Well that's not weird and stalkerish at all Hmm

Nobody thinks that. However, the natural affection and behaviour of the children shows what a close, bonded family they are. Some things you can't fake.
Why people are so nasty about all this, I have no idea.

This. Yes.

How opportune that butterfly landed when it did!

You discuss posters elsewhere?? What on mumsnet? On a forum about mumsnet? It's not that shitty tattle place is it?

It's clearly a professionally trained butterfly.

Anyway. I liked it

Imperfectionist · 10/09/2024 06:21

I thought it was beautiful and found it moving and relevant - my family is worlds away from theirs, but spending time with husband, kids and dog, walking in the woods is my happy place.

For those curious about cost, a video like this could be made in the UK for £30k. A piece to camera costs about £10k. These are modest prices so it depends what William Warr’s day rate is and how many edits / versions he worked on to determine how many days he invoiced for. Obviously it could have cost more but it’s more than possible for those prices - and even less. Not much really. And way cheaper than having an army of spokespeople and PR people and communications managers to liaise with the British newspaper and broadcast media.

socialdilemmawhattodo · 09/09/2024 23:40

You're sounding hysterical. It's not vile. Overuse of that word. But it is clear from the video that the messaging is health first (because how could anyone argue), family next (again how could anyone argue) then some duties. Well judging by the last few years not many per annum. Certainly not a Princess Anne rate.

The list above seems feasible (some already delivered) with perhaps a few more on top. But it's not many really is it?

I have a feeling that she has an underlying health condition. I’ve thought that long before the cancer announcement.

It’s the way she carries herself at times which reminds me of myself when I’m feeling unwell.

My mum and my sister are usually the only ones who can spot it as I don’t give much away.
