Happy to see Princess Kate doing so well, but...

I'm really glad to see Kate doing so well, and I am glad she has finished chemo looking so healthy and happy. However my sister and I cannot stop laughing at the video Kensington Palace have just released.

We think the video has a striking resemblance to the Twilight films, only warm toned and shorter.

Narration - check
Holding hands while lying down in a meadow - check
Tree climbing - check
Stacks of logs - check
Dramatic sweeping shots of trees - check

I was waiting for William to say something really cringy while giving Kate a piggy back ride.

I wonder did Will and Kate get Oasis tickets

They don't need tickets they can just turn up unannounced

You're sounding hysterical

And you are sounding misogynistic. @TeaMistress post sounds perfectly measured, you just don’t like it hence your over the top reaction.

Thank you. Agreed. The above poster is using insinuation about emotional stability to try and silence a dissenting voice. It's usually aimed at women. Pure misogyny.

Im joking really.

But That's annoyed me more than them having a free palace to live in, and not having to work a job at all

Lol.

They can just turn up!

The blood sweat and tears I went through to get an Oasis ticket! And they can just wander in.

Oh my! It feels like an advert to join a cult, or for sanitary products in parts.

I was thinking some sort of Centre Parc advert.
But I totally get what you mean it's like some sort of 'lifestyle' advert.

Glad she's cancer free and I kind of get why they have released the video but it's a bit weird.
Usually with the Royals it would be a bog standard press release "Delighted to announce....."

Nobody is nasty or joy sucking in finding that video inappropriate or mawkish. I find it gross and insulting to the enormous health inequalities and struggles millions face. Nothing inspirational or touching about it at all. Given that over 30% of people won’t receive the prompt treatment she has it becomes even more ill judged. People who have actually been diagnosed with a detectable cancer not waiting for treatment as a preventative course of action.

Cancer treatment waiting times are the worst ever on record and as a result there will be an enormous amount of people that won’t get this chance to take the simple things for granted again.
Perhaps they should donate a massive amount of their private wealth to tackling cancer for the masses - who don’t have a hope of being cosseted or get to waft around in floaty dresses in a cornfield - and it might be more poignant for the fact that one in two of us face this horror in our lives.

This is how I feel. I’m very glad she’s getting better but I can’t bear the awful video. It hears no resemblance whatsoever to my experience.

Fleecedandzipped · 10/09/2024 00:05

Oh dear lord! What were they thinking? It's just like an advert. Not at all the sort of thing I would expect from the royal family.

Dare I say, it seems very un-British? We of the stiff upper lip wouldn't normally condone such flowery sentimentality.

A simple written notice or a press statement would have been sufficient.

Nah, they have to sort security and get a private balcony and all that. Absolute palaver, you’ll have more fun. I bet they will go tho.

She says in her video she is focusing on "staying cancer-free". Unless she is lying in her soft focus production, I don't think she is "far from well".

What the PP means is that her prognosis may or may not be that great, not that she isn’t free of cancer right now.

Yeah just go check out the other threads on the RF board, it's just constant passing taking and nasty comments not just confined to here 💁‍♀️

LoveBluey · 10/09/2024 00:16

So if she says nothing and asks for privacy conspiracy theorists believe she has been murdered and the royal family are covering it up.
If she opens herself up and shares more personal family videos she is twee, self indulgent and removed from reality.

I'm glad I'm not in the public eye and don't face this constant scrutiny and judgement.

theduchessofspork · 10/09/2024 00:20

socialdilemmawhattodo · 09/09/2024 23:40

You're sounding hysterical. It's not vile. Overuse of that word. But it is clear from the video that the messaging is health first (because how could anyone argue), family next (again how could anyone argue) then some duties. Well judging by the last few years not many per annum. Certainly not a Princess Anne rate.

The list above seems feasible (some already delivered) with perhaps a few more on top. But it's not many really is it?

She’s clear she’s not going back to work much for a while, but (and I am no royal fan) I’d imagine whatever she does do will prioritise her early years charity, and mental health stuff, not just wearing nice dresses to premieres.

As for her work rate - she could (prior to her illness) have stepped it up for sure, but staying PT to spend time with her pre and primary school age kids seems a perfectly reasonable choice.

It does appear you are being unnecessarily snide.

Amybelle88 · 10/09/2024 00:25

She's celebrating being cancer free - even if you found it hysterical, keep it to yourself - it's in poor taste.

No I'm not being "unnecessarily snide" or as the previous misogynist suggested "hysterical". Please don't make remarks that denigrate or demean me.

I think you got the wrong end of the stick it wasn't aimed at you. She thought her comment to you was snide because she called you hysterical.

I too have Cancer and have also finished my chemo .(Similar timeline to Kate) .I liked it and it gave me hope .Due a scan this week and seeing Consultant 2 weeks time for result .Kate is a lot younger than me though, and I loved seeing her with Charlotte in particular. It must be difficult to explain to Prince Louis especially that Mummy is ill .Lets hope She, I , and anyone suffering recover fully

"To William and me" was 100% correct, not incorrect, or an attempt at "the common touch".

She clearly doesn't feel the need to pander to ignorance, or maybe she's an intelligent person who reads a lot, and it wouldn't occur to her to use incorrect grammar.

LBFseBrom · 10/09/2024 00:58

I'm not given to sentimentality or public displays of it but I found the video quite charming and appropriate, it wasn't long. It was lovely to see her with her husband and family, looking quite well. I'm sure it has given many people encouragement. My wish now is that she, and others who have been through the same, will stay well for as long as they can.

I hope she doesn't do too much too soon, there is a tendancy to do thts when one feels better but she needs to nurture and pace herself for a good while yet. The royal diary is generally quite gruelling. We'd all far rather she made a really good recovery than wore herself out.

I agree, her grammar was correct.

Beautiful film
Beautiful family
Beautiful sentiment and statement

But it just didn't work together. I feel they were trying to replicate the nostalgia of the old footage of previous royal generations but missed the mark. It's a shame. They didn't need to do this.

I really didn't like the bum run footage with her daughter. A bit weird. I think they're trying to keep up the Americans now. And jumping on hay stacks, who the fuck does that. I'm glad she's well, if she is. I hope the Royals don't lower themselves to do videos every second

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 10/09/2024 01:15

As someone with cancer who isn't going to survive it, and as someone who has no interest in the RF, I thought it was lovely. ANY, beautiful survial stories should be celebrated. Many if us won't be that blessed.

Do you really think she wrote that? 😂 Or her previous sitting-on-the-bench speech?

Come on, love them or hate them, surely no one is that naiive. Kates grammar skills have bugger all to do with how well written (or not) it was!

🤣🤣🤣

The video is very contrived and I feel it was more about a PR exercise in wanting them to be seen as a perfect happy family, than it was about Kate hopefully being well on the road to a full recovery.

ThenYouCrossMe · 10/09/2024 02:04

And this makes you want to start a public thread, laughing at this video?

We're allowed to have opinions on the video. No one is laughing at what Kate has gone through, we're laughing at a cringey, contrived, OTT video.

This. I thankfully don't have cancer but am chronically il. . I'd be happily making "twee" videos like this if I was cured tomorrow! Good for her, and long may she remain well. I thought the video was lovely.

Haha that’s so true!

I found it touching and they were really physically affectionate. Noticed she wasn’t wearing her Diana ring.

You do realise they would have repeated the 'physical affection' clips quite a number of times to get the right shots? This was a production.
