Happy to see Princess Kate doing so well, but...

I'm really glad to see Kate doing so well, and I am glad she has finished chemo looking so healthy and happy. However my sister and I cannot stop laughing at the video Kensington Palace have just released.

We think the video has a striking resemblance to the Twilight films, only warm toned and shorter.

Narration - check
Holding hands while lying down in a meadow - check
Tree climbing - check
Stacks of logs - check
Dramatic sweeping shots of trees - check

I was waiting for William to say something really cringy while giving Kate a piggy back ride.

I suspect she's far from well.

I think she's very, very brave.

I have always, well before the last year or two, had an uneasy feeling about her. A sense of doom. Not sure why; she has always been so sporty and healthy.

I think this video was primarily for her children and family.

@Motorina you are not a bad person. Many people are saying the video is tone deaf.

Sorry for your loss.

Yes I’m sorry @Motorina.

Ive been fortunate enough not to lose someone to cancer and I also wish Kate well and don’t like to see them endlessly attacked and belittled because ultimately they are just people/ parents doing their best with a niche role in a world that doesn’t necessarily welcome it much these days. So my sympathy was very much with them, but even I had a couple of moments in the video where I thought that might be quite hard for people who didn’t get the happy ending. I think they were intending strength to those going through it currently. Ultimately, life can have real sadness in it. That’s not their fault, but it does and I’m sorry for your loss.

lingmerth · 09/09/2024 23:13

@blueshoes I guess she will suffer the anxiety of will it return, what's that twinge, is that a lump etc etc the same as anyone who has had or has cancer. Wealth and privilege won't give her peace of mind.
Personally I thought it was a lovely video and may have helped some people.

This. We have no idea of the real prognosis so instead of people judging her and criticising her for her "privilege" and making spiteful comments, maybe they should try being compassionate towards someone who may be far more ill than anyone is letting on.

And I think the clear intention was to make it broader than just all about themselves.

@DinosaurMunch

2.8 days a week would be 146 work days, not 90, in a 52-week year.

4andup · 09/09/2024 22:53

In reality she will still have to go for check ups to make sure nothing is growing or developing. The cancer is gone and hopefully for good. Her cancer was luckily caught and it wasn't aggressive and she had her strength to fight it. I do agree with your post.

You have no idea that her cancer was no aggressive, no one knows what cancer she has so you can’t make sweeping statements like that.

And you know this how?? Vile and baseless comment

Its not vile or baseless. The individual under discussion receives substantial from the public purse. We all wish her well in her recovery. But the initial statements indicated this was preventative treatment. I would suggest now that was perhaps not quite true. And now there are strong hints that work might not resume as before. I wonder how your employer would deal with that? Probably not very well, and even less well in the last 10 years.

This. She wants her children to have as many happy memories as possible and spend as much precious time with her family as possible. There is a fragility showing in the video and I suspect she wants to make as many memories with her loved ones as possible.

I think some people are expecting her to look different. They caught her cancer before it had a chance to get aggressive she's very lucky. Would people believe it more if she looked dishevelled and looked like a zombie from all the chemo. I think she looks great and back to her wooden self. I wish Kate all the best but I am not a fan of hers.

We don’t know they did catch it early though, or what her prognosis actually is.

whoamI00 · 09/09/2024 23:26

It doesn’t matter whether the video is well-made or not. What’s important is that she has finished her chemotherapy and is now focusing on staying cancer-free. On a personal level I empathise with the journey she and her family have endured and I’m glad to hear she’s doing well.

BigWillyLittleTodger · 09/09/2024 23:28

She says in her video she is focusing on "staying cancer-free". Unless she is lying in her soft focus production, I don't think she is "far from well".

Lets revisit the comment

"she is signalling she will only go to the tennis, film premieres, Christmas Day walk to church and play the piano at the annual Carol concert"

On what basis has this assumption been made. Has anyone confirmed that this will be the case. If there has been no confirmation of this then the comment is indeed baseless. Vile.

Beetledoggy · 09/09/2024 23:31

I found the video a tad cringy. As someone who’s had chemo, radio, surgery etc for cancer I’m pleased that someone else has come through it so far, but I feel that the stylised view this presents is just so removed from my experience. Very few of us who have been there are fortunate enough not to have had the on-going worries of paying bills and keeping things going and whilst I’m sure she has had the same worries about how her kids and family are coping I doubt she has had the stress of paying the bills and the mortgage and wondering if she’ll still have a job. The video has been very carefully stage managed but I think sets an unrealistic expectation for how people dealing with cancer will feel when certain parts of treatment are done. It’s just my own personal view, others can feel
differently and it doesn’t mean one of us is wrong or right.

I thought it was beautiful and moving. It did look like it was recreating wonderful memories of summers gone by and why ever not!! I don’t care how much it cost. She’s a young woman with young children who has faced a frightening time. She’s on the path to recovery and I’m happy for them all. No one knows what life holds in wait for them. I’m appalled but not surprised at some of the comments on here.

At her age I was being called Middle aged by my GP. I did call him out on it. And asked how he would like it (similar-ish age) if I referred to him as my middle aged GP. He croaked - for a long time - before finally half admitting that it was a technical term and perhaps not appropriate. But anyway PoW is not young in medical terms. (Even if its rubbish)

I think we need to be careful and not judge those who are angry or upset or talk about a two tier system. Cancer doesn't discriminate Kate will have to go for regular tests for the next few years to make sure it doesn't come back. People who are suffering are still finding it hard to be heard by their doctors and then they get the diagnosis when its to late. It's heart breaking when you read those stories. I don't wish for Kate to go through what your average Joe has to fight for. No matter what happens to Kate she will get the best care and drugs to ease her pain. She will never have to fight for treatment or to be checked out if she's poorly. Kate is showing her strength she is showing what proper care should look like and we should all aim and demand we get the same.

I’m delighted to see Kate looking so well and I wish her the best but I’m another one who really isn’t sure about the style of the video . Very Famous five/center parcs feel.

That’s exactly right. And she is in the odd situation that she is expected to make public ( very, very public) statements about it all.

The truth is often people don’t really know themselves exactly where they are at in these situations.

It just pays to be kind generally as you never really know what people are going through.

You're sounding hysterical. It's not vile. Overuse of that word. But it is clear from the video that the messaging is health first (because how could anyone argue), family next (again how could anyone argue) then some duties. Well judging by the last few years not many per annum. Certainly not a Princess Anne rate.

The list above seems feasible (some already delivered) with perhaps a few more on top. But it's not many really is it?

Abbylikeswine · 09/09/2024 23:42

I wonder did Will and Kate get Oasis tickets

BigWillyLittleTodger · 09/09/2024 23:43

And you are sounding misogynistic. @TeaMistress post sounds perfectly measured, you just don’t like it hence your over the top reaction.

I guess they could have done something more like:

Crumpled pyjamas - check
Urine sample in background - check
Children bickering - check
Messy bedroom - check

Then again:
Gilded palace backdrop - check
Grandad wearing crown - check
Staff in attendance - check
Ceremonial robes- check

Either of these might have been very accurate but I guess they tried to pitch it somewhere in between. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I'm not in the least bit hysterical. If you are resorting to name calling or insinuations about my emotional stability then that tells me all I need to know about you. The only hysteria here is the constant shrill judgement of people ,making incredibly vicious comments and baseless assumptions about someone suffering from cancer. I won't be engaging with you further.
