Happy to see Princess Kate doing so well, but...

I'm really glad to see Kate doing so well, and I am glad she has finished chemo looking so healthy and happy. However my sister and I cannot stop laughing at the video Kensington Palace have just released.

We think the video has a striking resemblance to the Twilight films, only warm toned and shorter.

Narration - check
Holding hands while lying down in a meadow - check
Tree climbing - check
Stacks of logs - check
Dramatic sweeping shots of trees - check

I was waiting for William to say something really cringy while giving Kate a piggy back ride.

Take that Meghan!

It went a bit Titanic Oirish at the end, I expected her on top of the barrel of hay yelling I’m flying!!

However other than the OTT end and it being rather longer than needed, it’s a good bit of PR. He should adopt the beard FT though.

I think that’s rather unfair.

I imagine some people, while being happy for Catherine personally, will not find any particular joy in being reminded of the two tier system that exists in the UK, when it comes to cancer care.

This. My mum never even got to start chemo before she died a month ago, because the system is in such chaos. So it's pretty bitter-sweet to hear that someone else's mum had a much smoother ride in accessing care because of who she married.

I don't wish Catherine ill at all. I would not wish the ending my mum had on anyone. But it's a hard watch because every moment screams privilege, from instant access to care, to unlimited time off work, to private forests to romp in in her recovery.

If that makes me a bad person, so be it.

Loved it, made me cry. So happy for her and her family.

I expect it'll go down well in America. I like it although I suppose I'm a bit surprised they felt the need to make such a big thing of her coming back to do a few engagements. I hope they didn't feel forced into it thanks to all the craziness a few months back.

minerva7 · 09/09/2024 22:34

Camilla with a fag in her hand twirling around accidentally setting fire to the meadow, whilst Charles merrily frolicks along flying a kite 😂

@Doseofreality I'd pay to see this 🤣

This in spades. Some of the comments are really spiteful.

People have short memories about all the conspiracy awfulness when she hadn’t been seen earlier in the year. This time she releases a video and she’s still wrong according to many on here.

But of course nobody is criticising Kate, who is just a person deserving of sympathy for her ordeal. It’s instead simply that many find the wielding of the massive inherited wealth/extraordinary privilege which is integral to the British RF’s brand distasteful in a country in which so many go without. And, unlike say 50 years ago, few are shamed into silence for fear of being branded a traitor or not patriotic. Moreover, the “we’re just a family like any other” stuff of the last decade or two, which has coincided with a period of national austerity/belt-tightening for most, rings particularly false.

I am under no legal or moral obligation to provide unconditional and unquestioning support and pretty platitudes all other people. For example, I don't want to compliment or support Prince Andrew, do you?

If you are going to hold me to that standard and tone police me, then you should hold everyone else to that standard and tone police them too. Including those on this thread calling others cunts and btches.

Personally I am quite happy to agree to disagree and enjoy reading others opinions, even if they differ from mine. It is one of the ways you can develop critical thinking skills.

As for not saying anything online I wouldn't say in person, what makes you think I wouldn't say this in person. Just because you may be fake, don't assume the rest of us are.

Sorry but I didn’t quote you and I wasn’t replying to you.

Given the choice, I'd vote to get rid of a royal family but I think everything they do is unacceptable to some people, for some reason. If they'd done a written statement it would have just fed the wackos that insist something sinister has happened to her and been covered up. If they'd done a straight to camera speech it would have been too cold/emotional (delete as you see fit). May as well have done something a bit different and be criticised for something new - which is what they've done.

I agree. They can’t win.

I thought it was lovely also, seems quite nasty to be laughing at someone's celebration of being cancer free.

In reality she will still have to go for check ups to make sure nothing is growing or developing. The cancer is gone and hopefully for good. Her cancer was luckily caught and it wasn't aggressive and she had her strength to fight it. I do agree with your post.

Theunamedcat · 09/09/2024 22:55

It was a little over long but I'm hoping it satisfy the trolls it doesn't look like it has though because many people are still saying it's AI or clone kate 🤔

@Motorina you are not a bad person. Many people are saying the video is tone deaf.

Sorry for your loss.

Where are they saying that?

Maybe the whole world is AI.

Are we real? Are we in a game?

I'm joking, but the way people go on, I'm surprised that they think that anything is real.

Sure we could all be in a simulation

This with bells on.

Quite apart from how ridiculous the advert is, the 'I'm so lucky with the fabulous care I've received' message is tone deaf and sickening.

I think some people are expecting her to look different. They caught her cancer before it had a chance to get aggressive she's very lucky. Would people believe it more if she looked dishevelled and looked like a zombie from all the chemo. I think she looks great and back to her wooden self. I wish Kate all the best but I am not a fan of hers.

Abbylikeswine · 09/09/2024 23:05

I do think it is a bit silly to have a royal family in this day and age.

I think that a lot of people aren't bothered about them.

But people are too lazy to do anything about it. As it would take effort and change to have a different system, so we just keep letting the royal family roll on and on

Abbylikeswine · 09/09/2024 23:06

Though as royal families go, Kate and wills at least aren't too bad.

They haven't been in any scandals.

We could have worse. If we have to have a royal family, at least it's them

Avatartar · 09/09/2024 22:52

How can you offer hope to cancer sufferers and families when they clearly do not have her privilege to recover in peace and without having to do any work or worry about bills nor prompt access to best medical care in the country.

She will never experience waiting in line in a hospital or her boss breathing down her neck. Nor will she have to call her bank to arrange for a payment holiday.

Only the staunchest royalist will go awwwww. Not cancer sufferers.

'Clone Kate' is definitely a popular conspiracy theory online.

I suppose once a conspiracy theory starts, it's going to run for a while.
