Happy to see Princess Kate doing so well, but...

I'm really glad to see Kate doing so well, and I am glad she has finished chemo looking so healthy and happy. However my sister and I cannot stop laughing at the video Kensington Palace have just released.

We think the video has a striking resemblance to the Twilight films, only warm toned and shorter.

Narration - check
Holding hands while lying down in a meadow - check
Tree climbing - check
Stacks of logs - check
Dramatic sweeping shots of trees - check

I was waiting for William to say something really cringy while giving Kate a piggy back ride.

I liked it.

I thought it was warm and honest.

Having cancer must make you incredibly scared and vulnerable. The thought of it going wrong and never seeing your family again.
I'm glad she highlighted that what keeps us going at the end of the day is loving and being loved. Whether it be friends, neighbours, family or a pet.

Her children must have been terrified too.

Oh yes I see her grammar is correct!

Awful isn’t it …makes me wonder how their offspring will turn out as adults!

I got all twitchy about the log climbing,it was like a 1970s school danger film 😱

Me too! I was expecting it to collapse at any moment.

Lolatusernamesuggestions · 09/09/2024 21:36

I thought it was beautiful. I know that feeling of having a second chance, focusing on your family, love. I'm lucky enough to be here. Some of us don't get that chance. Good on Kate for sharing a heart warming video.

LozzaChops101 · 09/09/2024 21:36

Delighted she seems to be on the up, but has anyone else seen the Sooz Kempner tweet where she’s edited in the theme to Succession over the top of the video? It’s magnificent 😅

Deviants and psychopaths. Fiends. MONSTERS.

alseb · 09/09/2024 21:38

I thought it was beautiful and moving. It did look like it was recreating wonderful memories of summers gone by and why ever not!! I don’t care how much it cost. She’s a young woman with young children who has faced a frightening time. She’s on the path to recovery and I’m happy for them all. No one knows what life holds in wait for them. I’m appalled but not surprised at some of the comments on here.

ArtyStars · 09/09/2024 21:38

Meanwhile the Sussexes have allegedly released their Netflix polo teaser. Behind the scenes of the richest polo players in the world. Meghan is proudly featuring her preloved Diana Cartier watch, eco chic, yes?

MorvernBlack · 09/09/2024 21:40

I'm not really a huge royal fan, but I quite liked the video, it seemed natural, it was nice to see them all looking relaxed.

Not sure I really understand the "smart Alec" judgemental, tearing down comments as if to say you are above this kind of thing. Just why do people feel the need? It's not a film entered into the Cannes Film Festival which would justifiably invite critique, just bit of palace promo with a supportive message to others suffering too.

RegimentalSturgeon · 09/09/2024 21:40

She’s a young woman

Hardly ‘young’.

JSMill · 09/09/2024 21:40

I read a lot online about how the video was cringeworthy. However once I actually watched it, I felt it was made by a person who had come through a very scary and stressful time and was feeling lighter for the first time in a long time. She is celebrating that feeling and good for her.
One thing that jumped out to me is that she said she would be doing her best to stay cancer free. She must be so worried about the future. My dh was diagnosed with cancer over ten years ago at a very early stage. It still hangs over us but after multiple checkups we have been able to feel positive. The first couple of years we were so worried.

TeaMistress · 09/09/2024 21:33

I really hope you don't ever have to go through a cancer diagnosis and treatment yourself. There is nothing remotely "funny" about this.

If you are truly sick enough to think that this is "the funniest thing ever" then I think you need professional help.

professional help with what?

Babyworriesreal · 09/09/2024 21:43

Very glad she's doing well, as I do admire her. The video however, made me think of shampoo, sanitary wear, Cadbury Flake and bread adverts.

Exactly this. Cancer hung over my Dad for a long time, some people just don't understand. There's such a rush to be that person making what they think is an edgy critique.

Smallmerciesandallthat · 09/09/2024 21:45

Beautiful.... Love reigns ❤️

PussInBin20 · 09/09/2024 21:46

Yes it’s a bit cheesy but I do welcome it. The Royals all used to be so out of touch/aloof so it is nice to see them as a family.

I am guessing that if they give the public a little bit of their world, it stops all the speculation and press intrusion and at least they are in control somewhat.

I can't help feeling it's an attempt to compete with the schmaltzy crap Meghan and Harry have gone in for in the past, which is a shame.

It really reminded me of the opening credits of The Split

Brilliantly put.

Some of the comments on here are absolutely disgusting.

Crikeyalmighty · 09/09/2024 21:49

@TeaMistress I agree and am not remotely a royalist. It's a hideous time whoever you are and wealth can certainly make things easier on a practical level but it can't take away the fear

Ted22 · 09/09/2024 21:52

Hoolihan · 09/09/2024 18:37

Oh give over, people are allowed to discuss whatever they like. I doubt the Royals give a flying fuck what Mumsnet thinks.

I’m torn on this.

I think “the Royals don’t give a fuck what mumsnet says” has been demonstrated to be false. Just look at the reaction last winter when Kate was “missing”, all the threads on Reddit and Mumsnet - which were interesting/compelling enough to filter down to twitter, wider social media and eventually the gutter press. It’s not all fun and games, and who cares what we post. The things posted on Mumsnet and Reddit do influence the wider world, and if it’s compelling enough, can spread far and wide, and absolutely effect the celebrity in question. I can’t imagine all the conspiracy stuff was very nice for Kate when she was just diagnosed.

My point is - I do think the tone of what we say on the internet matters. Celebrities are real people and see this stuff.

It’s fine to say “ah it’s a bit twee, it’s like a Centre Parcs ad”. But the general rule should be: don’t say anything online about someone that you wouldn’t be comfortable saying to their face. And that includes celebrities/royals.

JustPassingThyme · 09/09/2024 20:07

I'm not mocking Kate or cancer, just the video. They say a picture is worth a thousand words. So here are two pictures to illustrate my point for those who struggled to comprehend my words.

Don't think the 'how dare you/what's wrong with you" brigade are going to think it's funny no matter what you post OP.... but I certainly do! Laughing out loud at those pics side by side

Ahh I thought it was lovely. They could have released a sterile statement. I love that they’ve done something more personal.
