Happy to see Princess Kate doing so well, but...

I'm really glad to see Kate doing so well, and I am glad she has finished chemo looking so healthy and happy. However my sister and I cannot stop laughing at the video Kensington Palace have just released.

We think the video has a striking resemblance to the Twilight films, only warm toned and shorter.

Narration - check
Holding hands while lying down in a meadow - check
Tree climbing - check
Stacks of logs - check
Dramatic sweeping shots of trees - check

I was waiting for William to say something really cringy while giving Kate a piggy back ride.

I thought it was a spoof.
It's going to age very very badly.

This in buckets.
What the fuck is wrong with you all?

I have to agree with this. Why can’t we all just be happy for her completing chemo and gratefully celebrating It?

WetWeasel · 09/09/2024 21:02

Why does there always have to be a ‘but’

People are so mean! It is honestly unbelievable

Ok it's very stylized but was rather lovely because whatever your personal situation it's a frightening experience and harsh when the world and its mother constantly want updates or constant pictures to pick on and I think it comes from the heart . You have to be a pretty mean person to take issue with it- and I'm not a royalist!!

@BettyBardMacDonald she is signalling she will only go to the tennis, film premieres, Christmas Day walk to church and play the piano at the annual Carol concert.

And you know this how?? Vile and baseless comment

JustPassingThyme · 09/09/2024 21:05

Well I'm calling it now, a still from that video will be their Christmas card this year.

It is so setting itself up for a spoof being made. To the point, I thought it WAS a spoof at first.

Cookiecrumblepie · 09/09/2024 21:10

She says “William and me”, shouldn’t it William and I?

Supersimkin7 · 09/09/2024 21:10

I rather miss the glamour and fun of an active PoWess, but C was never up for much of that anyway.

Charities and co who have always relied on royal support for fundraising will have to think again. Diana when married raised zillions for good causes.

Sad for our nation’s good causes, but there’s bound to be a solution.

ArtyStars · 09/09/2024 21:10

HamSad · 09/09/2024 20:40

They could have done, but they chose not to. They chose to rub our faces in their wealth and privilege instead. Nice.

There was nothing that suggested wealth and privilege in this video.

Just basic human connection.

PR is part and parcel of any organisation so of course they will use appropriate channels to communicate their messages. It felt very down to earth, enjoying family, playing games around the table and spending time in nature. Where do some posters live where there are no green spaces, the moon? Simple, but moving. She looks very different now and clearly still affected by her experience. She seem incredibly genuine and her kids as normal as they can be under the circumstances.

AnywhereAnyoneAnyTime · 09/09/2024 21:12

Teddleshon · 09/09/2024 20:48

From the tone of some of these messages it seems that posters would be happier if she had received appalling medical care.

I think some would have quite liked it if she’d died.

Remember some of the threads before she was forced to reveal her diagnosis? Posters were practically salivating over social media speculation that she was in a coma/had died.

Yup, it feels like we are being groomed to see less of her. It is a pre-emptive strike to continue to stave off public criticism of her only doing the perks and none of the drudge, unlike other recovering cancer patients who don't have a choice but to soldier on with their jobs.

Hope I am proven wrong.

LetsPlayShadowlands · 09/09/2024 21:13

It's laughable. As laughable as the plebs that fall for it.

JustPassingThyme · 09/09/2024 21:14

HollyKnight · 09/09/2024 20:51

It's not real though. I don't understand how people think it is. All the hugging and frolicking and gazing into the distance...was for the camera in front of them. The camera didn't just happen to catch the children billygoatting up those logs. Kate didn't just happen to pick up a stone from the ground as the camera panned around her. That scene of her and William lying on the ground laughing and touching each other...there was literally a cameraman (or woman) standing right over the top of them lol. All those scenes had shots from multiple angles. It was scripted and directed. Performative.

Meanwhile behind the camera there was :

  • a nanny watching the children
  • a makeup artist ready with face powder
  • a hair stylist with a brush out
  • a director telling them how to pose
  • probably someone doing the lighting
  • maybe a drone operator
  • and Paul Burrell's replacement holding refreshments on a silver tray

It's all so lovey and cosy and relatable!

Imagine having so much anger in you, that you're nasty about a Mum going through chemo. My life is pretty busy and happy, so I don't need to be so unkind about other people. Some of these comments are the worst of Mumsnet.

EI12 · 09/09/2024 21:15

Looking at this American-style promo, I do miss HM Elizabeth the Queen Mother. Cancer survivor, first diagnosed at 85, made it to 102, without telling the public. Dignity. Unfortunately these two lack this. Do they think that we will wish anything less than a full recovery to Kate if they did not come up with this frolicking nonsense?

Yes very down to.earth, who amongst us hasn't wafted whimsically through a wheat field followed by a camera crew?

No, someone has already pointed out how nice it was to hear it correctly.

Which would be correct:
"The messages to I" or "The messages sent to me"? Adding in another person doesn't change that, so it's still "The messages sent to William and me", not "The messages sent to William and I".

And definitely not "William and myself" which could certainly have been incorrectly used as well, wouldn't have surprised me.

Actually I don't think so. Much of the footage with the children is too genuine and open and was probably just taken in situ. Lots of post production to achieve the style. The footage with just the PoW were filmed separately. Nice editing job. What made it is her voice, her words and how their focus on family.

Bowies · 09/09/2024 21:19

A bit of a fantasy of a perfect DH and DC which made it unrelatable. Also her voice sounds very contrived, she didn’t grow up as a Royal or in the era the Queen did.

The natural setting was beautiful, but overall too idyllic/stylised and not down to earth enough for most people’s experience of reality of life dealing with cancer.

The original video statement was simple, this was more like an advert. Of course people are happy she’s doing well, but we already had a statement to that effect.

VisitationRights · 09/09/2024 21:20

Agree, OP, a total cringefest.
