If you voted Labour in July, have you changed your mind?

Are you happy with the changes so far, and still backing Starmer?

invisiblecat · 08/09/2024 18:07

No. Good riddance to our previous and utterly useless Tory MP, and we now have a brilliant Labour MP who is out and about in the constituency having meetings with residents, and visiting places all the time.

skippy67 · 08/09/2024 18:01

Yes and yes.

That should read yes, I voted Labour, and no I haven't changed my mind. 🤦

Riapia · 08/09/2024 18:10

It will take a bit longer for them to fuck things up but all governments fuck things up eventually.
Otherwise there would be no democracy.

Parrotseatthemall · 08/09/2024 18:13

Now pay by mile suits me, I pay a lot to own a car and to park it legally based on the emissions It doesn't emit while parked ;) you can't please all of the people all of the time. The Tories were unable to 'stop the boats' peddling that to be the cause of so much hardship to us all, and to be honest my town has become a bit of a no go area for me through all the various homeless people (many not migrants) I think colonialism and invasion has come back and bitten us on the bum perhaps?

AuntieJoyce · 08/09/2024 18:06

But the fact they did that it at all shows poor judgement. You don’t exactly have to be mystic meg to know that it was going to be a problem for pensioners close to the cut off and that all we need is a cold winter and excess deaths reported for it to be a complete political disaster for them.

And Starmer’s recent interviews about how we need to balance the books are just scaring the market and letting the rumour mill run into overdrive. If that’s a tactic to make us feel relieved on the 30th of October it’s not a very smart one

We don't know what other 'positive' stuff is in the pipeline for pensioners yet. At the moment the thought of needing to go into hospital scares me more than buying a heated blanket

the80sweregreat · 08/09/2024 18:17

Pay by mile would stop a lot of congestion, but I just hope they exclude the ones who gen

MtClair · 08/09/2024 18:17

You mean you can tell if it was a good choice after 2 months, all of them during the summer hols when Parliament is away??

Are you expecting to do miracles?

Pedallleur · 08/09/2024 18:17

No because they only been in Government for 3 months. The Tories had 14 years and the support of a right wing press and some people behind the scenes bent on privatisation of everything. We huff and puff about dynamic pricing yet the water companies flush effluent into the water system seemingly without any comebacks. Fossil fuels are lobbying constantly and various MPs have been working to sell the NHS. Johnson with his friend Lebdev and now seemingly a Director of a Company headed by a Uranium mining owner and Boris's youngest appointment to the Lords seemingly employed by them. Same old.....

the80sweregreat · 08/09/2024 18:18

.. who genuinely need their cars and vans for work have some kind of pass on paying it

Doggymummar · 08/09/2024 18:18

I didn't, I voted tactically, but they need at least three years I think to bed in and make lasting changes. Seeing positives at the minute

LibertyStars · 08/09/2024 18:20

I think they've been ok so far. I'd like them to be more radical. But frankly, almost anything would be better than what the Conservatives had become- incompetent, dishonest and cruel, and very much playing the D team after multiple changes of leader.

roundthepound · 08/09/2024 18:21

Happy and feel sorry and angry for the mess they've inherited and them having to be the grown ups and deal with core hard case decisions

Tories should be hanging their heads in shame at the mess they made

Fleetheart · 08/09/2024 18:22

I am so happy that we have some adult sensible beings in charge. It’s hard times, we all know that, and governments are never universally popular but I have so much more faith that this one has the right intentions and the right people to make it happen. I was so despairing of the greed and scandalous self seeking behaviour of the last lot. It will take a while I’m in no doubt.

Sopon · 08/09/2024 18:22

The pay per mile isn't likely to be October is it as they will have to have some sort of infrastructure to do it. Same as the land tax as the houses will need valuing, probably next April

CandiedPrincess · 08/09/2024 18:23

It's too soon to tell really but something needed to change so I am happy there was a change in government, and happy that I voted Labour on that basis.

It’s a bit early to tell, isn’t it? 2 months!,

Iloveeastereggs2020 · 08/09/2024 18:27

Still happy here

Autumnorganising · 08/09/2024 18:29

Overall, I’m happy. Labour are taking the job seriously and I’m sure there is a lot going on in the background that we don’t know about. I’m less happy with having to justify my vote to a load of farage loving, daily fail reading, colleagues, who actively hate Starmer.
I thinks Starmer’s going to have a rough few months ahead of him. The right wing press are really stirring things up. I think he needs to reassure the middle classes that they won’t be an easy target. He really needs to go after the tax dodging corporations, without killing investment. Tough job!

Fluffyhoglets · 08/09/2024 18:31

Extremely happy. I get regular updates on what the govt is doing in my job and they are just getting on with sorting things out.
They are not trying to decimate and destroy public services any more.
The WFA isn't popular but it's the only thing that's negative so far.
I hope they revisit the pension credit thresholds as a result so more people on low incomes get PC then WFA. rather than reinstating it as a universal benefit.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 08/09/2024 18:34

I didn't vote for Labour. Historically a tory voter, but couldn't bring myself to vote for them this year either.

Fuel allowance should be means tested, absolutely but feels a bit of a low cut off when you also consider labour just gave train drivers on £65k a year a £10k payrise. Not exactly supporting the lowest earning citizens is it?

I haven't heard much about the pay per mile tbh. I do have to drive for work. Some weeks I can do 1000 miles, others I do less than 50 so really not sure how it would impact me. My car is low emission but a bit of a petrol guzzler.

What I want to know is HOW will they measure what mileage ppl do?

Getmeahobnobstat · 08/09/2024 18:37

I didn’t vote Labour, but I regret that other people did.

So far they have been even worse than I thought they would be. I was expecting a honeymoon period at least.

Unsurprisingly it appears Labours popularity has tanked. So clearly out in the real world, people aren’t happy with the choices of austerity, fuel poverty and higher taxes.

I don’t see things improving under Labour. I’d love to be proven wrong, but I don’t see it.

NYE2023 · 08/09/2024 18:37

Quite happy. They have been left a terrible legacy . But I am enjoying the calmness and maturity they bring to governing the country - and some sensible decisions to boot. Eg ofsted ranking changes etc . There isn’t enough money to make decisions popular with all !

it’s way too early to judge them . One wonders which party you are affiliated to @notgettinganyyounger

pointythings · 08/09/2024 18:37

I don't have a vote because I'm foreign, but overall I'm pleased so far. I do wish they'd be braver on closer links with the EU - Brexit has been shown to be a huge clusterfuck that needs fixing as soon as possible.

Perplexed20 · 08/09/2024 18:37

I'm quite happy they've cancelled ridiculously expensive and ineffective schemes. Oh and Sunak's helicopter contract.
