What are you a true connoisseur of?

Tea, properly made tea. It is essential that it is perfect, every time.

Possibly also 1 piece swimsuits, I cannot abide a narrow gusset or strap that slips.

What about you?

Love this thread

Mine is baklava. I went through a period of making loads of it at Xmas and giving it to people. Friends still ask me about it now.

I think I might revive the tradition actually!

If its on the menu anywhere I eat I have to have some. But the best I've ever had in the UK has been from a little European corner shop type grocery that had trays of it by the till. £20 a box and worth every penny.

Over40Overdating · 07/09/2024 21:27

Crisps, Cheese and butter.

user47 · 07/09/2024 21:28

@SuncreamAndIceCream I am craving baklava now!

Not to brag but my brownies are always really good! Nigella recipe (actually same with millionaire shortbread, nigella never fails me) but my tip is once they’re out of the oven and cool on the side, leave them in the tray and put them in the fridge covered overnight. The next day they’ve gone really fudgy with a good gooey chew, they haven’t dried out and they have a brilliant crackly top.

Id say I’m an expert in homemade sausage rolls 🤓

For me also, very very soft nightwear in natural fabrics. If anyone needs assistance do not hesitate to ask!

Oh I need this - come to the sad conclusion that my summer nightwear (nightshirts that are like extra long loose T-shirts) has reach the end of their days.

Yes tea! I always make the mistake of letting my tea skills be known at work then I always have to make them! I’m a bit fussy an expert in the steps required 😁

Riesling, Champagne and crisps.

Could you recommend a decent Riesling? You’ll probably tell me I’m doing it wrong 😂 but I was bought a bottle a few years back and it tasted like a light, tart apple pie it was amazing! I think it was from aldi. I’ve never been able to find one that tastes the same since! I like dry white, not sweet!

user47 · 07/09/2024 21:52

@lmhj my bees all died, it happened 3 times before I admitted defeat - I got them when I was 18 and had them until I was 24, it broke my heart!

@CountryShepherd can we have the millionaire shortbread recipe please?😂

PeppaPigWorld · 07/09/2024 21:56

@user47 Please share your swimsuit wisdom. I have quite a long body and always struggle to find a decent one-piece that actually fits.

@CountryShepherd your millionaire' s shortbread looks amazing! I agree that shop bought ones are often v disappointing. Care to share your recipe?

I'm racking my brains to think of what I'm a connoisseur of and I can't think of a single thing!

I'm gutted!

Drinking. Wine or champagne. I do not care.
sad but true.

Potatoes. Amazing how the varieties differ.

SanFranBear · 07/09/2024 22:05

Marmite on Toast... somehow, my quantities of butter and marmite work beautifully - even my ExH will admit noone makes better!

Of course, if you're looking at Germany the word on the label you need is trocken which means it will be dry. There are so many beautiful Rieslings under £20 including wines from brilliant producers such as Donnhoff, Burklin Wolf, Loosen, Rings and Kuhn in this category. Riesling is such an expressive grape and the different areas they are grown make a difference, light apple and delicacy you might enjoy Mosel and if you like more peach then Pfalz, for a wallop of lime then Riesling from Clare Valley in Australia.
If you want to go up a level in quality (and price!) look for the Grosses Gewachs classification which signifies some of the very best dry Rieslings Germany has to offer. I prefer these with some age (I've started drinking my 2015's now)
Pretty much any wine merchant will look at you with love if you ask about Riesling and flood you with all the help you need to find something to suit you. Enjoy experimenting with different areas and countries and join the Riesling obsession!

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 07/09/2024 22:17

Also tea. I have a whole cupboard full of different loose-leaf teas!

kitchendiscotime · 07/09/2024 22:18

Shower gel. I seem to get through loads of it, and buy it anywhere from the pound shop to Liberty. I very rarely try the same one twice, but my all time favourites are L'Occitane Eau Des Baux and Diptyque shower oil.

In the bath I only ever have Olverum but I love to mix things up in the shower. My family are used to the number of bottles in there by now.

Christmas cake. I make an absolutely fantastic Christmas cake, so much so that people have told me they didn't like Christmas cake until they tried mine.

The drawback is I now get lots of requests to make it so it takes up my October half term every year 🤣.

I am also something of an expert on prawn cocktail crisps 🙈.

Thisdamncough · 07/09/2024 22:42

I know a fair bit about vintage and antique jewellery, completely nothing to do with my degree. It started quite early because I always played with my maternal and paternal grandmas' jewellery boxes and contents as a young child.

genesis92 · 07/09/2024 22:43

Carbonara. I can never order a Carbonara out cause they are always crap compared to mine.

I do not want to see an ounce of cream in sight

AngelicaSchuyler444 · 07/09/2024 23:16

Gin - I usually have at least 20 different types in my gin fridge.

Also socks - I really struggle with cold feet all year round, and have a wide selection of silk, wool, alpaca and cashmere socks for every occasion.
