Tea, properly made tea. It is essential that it is perfect, every time.

Possibly also 1 piece swimsuits, I cannot abide a narrow gusset or strap that slips.

What about you?

Hot chocolate. I was so impressed by one I tried in a chocolate cafe that I bought some of their hot chocolate flakes and started making it at home. Now a powder or syrup version just can’t compare.

Making brownies, I get requests from everyone I know to bake them, they are really good, I can't bake anything else though!

piscofrisco · 07/09/2024 19:37

Lasagne. My lasagne won a prize once. I'm very fussy about other lasagnes's and people regularly request mine as a gift for their birthday or such.

Gonna need the details of this as I can never make hot chocolate at home. Whatever I buy it tastes horrible.

I was going to say hot chocolate!

It started when I ran out of powder in early lockdown but had plenty of milk and very dark chocolate. Now I only make it with real chocolate, and I have it bitter (at least 85%) with added double cream before bed, sometimes with chilli flakes infused in the milk, or ginger. I'm trying cardamom pods tonight.

But I can no longer drink cheap hot chocolate, which is a pain.

VikingLady · 07/09/2024 19:47

I stopped learning about wine because I was starting to only want the expensive stuff!

CountryShepherd · 07/09/2024 19:48

I'm also a bit of an expert in millionaires shortbread. I can't bear a crumbly dry caramel. I mostly just eat my own!

I hate hot chocolate usually - too sweet - this sounds delicious thou! Do you use a shaker? DS swears by one

Your recommendations please, m'lady

VikingLady · 07/09/2024 20:18

@user47 No, I heat milk and lumps on chocolate in a small pan on the stove and stir it with a whisk. Don't let it fully boil, and if the chocolate goes bitty (which happens with very dark chocolate) just whisk it a bit harder. Add cream if wanted once you've turned the heat off.

Back in my drinking days I added whisky or cherry brandy too.

Heat milk in pan, stir in dark chocolate, spoon into vessel and add double cream? Have I understood correctly? I'm in a blossoming relationship with hot chocolate atm but it's the early stages. So much more to learn.

Cross-post - have you seen your reply to a PP, @VikingLady

Where exactly do you live?

HappierTimesAhead · 07/09/2024 20:21

Baths. It has to be absolutely steaming hot when you get in. You will need to dip one toe, then the other, then the other and on and on until you can gently ease yourself in. Chuck a good 6 cups of Empsom Salts in and a few drops or lavender. Candles are a must and if you can stretch to Diptyque then the smell really is divine. A big bottle of iced water or juice. I used to go with white wine but the combination of heat and alcohol is a bit too much even for me.
Broil yourself like a lobster then climb/fall onto the bathroom tiles spread Eagle until you can muster the energy to make it your bed.
Heaven.

Cherry brandy 🤩 I love those kirsch cherries so am going to have to try this. I used to make cherry brownies years ago when Green & Blacks had a cherry chocolate.
