Is this really why women wear those sport's leggings?

According to dp it's to make other people look at their figure 🙄

I tried to argue that they are for practicality but I'm starting to think he's got a point.

I personally don't wear them and don't think I will if they will just make people stare at my bottom.

I think I've been quite naive.

I honestly can’t imagine have imagine having a conversation about women’s arses and tight leggings with my husband.

GettingStuffed · 06/09/2024 08:25

I suppose they're cheaper than a BBL

I wear gym leggings to work out because I would look stupid in jeans.

Your dp is a dirty pervert who thinks he can look at other women because they are asking for it by wearing trousers. HTH.

How the hell do you get that from the OP? 🤣

Paganpentacle · 06/09/2024 08:29

I don't do gyms etc - but I do have horses and wear skin tight breeches with leather boots.
Practical and de rigeur for the sport.... or a bit kinky for the lads?
You decide

BeautyPageantDropout · 06/09/2024 00:16

does it matter what your bloke thinks? (he's obv looking at bums tho) having a curvy ass is part of today's beauty standards, so maybe women who do 20k squats to get a peachy bum want to show it off.

you can spot the women who grew up within 1980s beauty standards by their revulsion at big curvy bums.

You cannot help but look at a bum in those bum leggings 🤣

housethatbuiltme · 06/09/2024 08:33

Of course they do... don't you know that all the nuns wearing crucifixes are just dying to have men stair at their tits all day. Its all just to make god jealous those hussies.

Those choker necklaces in particular are very boobalicious lol.

TheCadoganArms · 06/09/2024 08:34

My sport is rowing and you absolutely have to wear snug clothing to avoid getting tangled in the rigging or on the slide. It's pretty functional stuff although you would get funny looks walking down the high street in it. I think most people wear stuff that they just feel comfortable exorcising in but there is always that exhibitionist minority who treat the gym as a catwalk rather then as a place to work out.

Women wear workout leggings to workout. HTH.

No, it doesn't help

SomePosters · 06/09/2024 08:36

This thread is a mess.

Im not judging but…

aye right then.

Fortunately women in this country aren’t expected to wear a loose fuckin shroud less men come undone around our irresistible wiles.

Let women wear what they want, why ever they want to.

So what if she wants to look and feel good… doesn’t make it FOR the male gaze or for the judgy bitches on this thread to pass comment on

Whatwouldscullydo · 06/09/2024 08:10

It's the skintight and sheer ones that get me particularly on public transport

How does one get to the gym then if they can't wear gym gear on the bus

Get changed at the gym. Wear a pair of shorts or a skirt over the leggings while not at the gym.

Monkeybutt1 · 06/09/2024 08:40

I think your DP is getting a hard time here OP, going on the assumption he meants the scrunchy bum ones then yes I agree they are worn to make men/women look at their bums or at least to accentuate the area which does draw they eye.
I don't see why people have issue with you talking to your DP about these things me and DH would have this conversation and he is not a dirty perv or a pig. He thinks those leggings look ridiculous and they only reason anyone wears them is to draw attention to the bum, which lets be honest is usually done to get the sex you are trying to attract to look at that area.

Whatwouldscullydo · 06/09/2024 08:41

Wow, you sound like a really lovely person, I bet you're a lovely slim size 6 with no cellulite or wrinkles yourself, the way you feel the need to judge other people for wearing something you're not a fan of. Being your daughter sounds like it would be so uplifting and definitely not a recipe for crippling body and self-esteem issues

Thankfully there seem to be a few influences on YouTube/face book etc who see cellulite as perfectly normal and applaud those who post footage without fancy lighting and poses to try and hide it while they lift freaking heavy!

Everyone at the gym is there to try and better themselves and get healthier and stronger . Some of us used to feel far to self conscious/flat/flabby to walk through the doors thinking people would be staring at all the lumps and bumps in tight spandex. Thankfully that doesn't appear to be the case at the actual gym. Just online where arseholes think it's OK to body shame others when they are just trying to get healthy in their perfectly normal imperfect bodies

Have you seen the leggings she is referring to?

KnittedCardi · 06/09/2024 08:44

DD wears those, along with bra tops and I am proud of her. She had years of bullying at school for being short, curvy, slightly overweight, in a sea of tall thin girls. She went through a phase of serious issues with food and her body image. Then she started lifting and now has a fantastic body and more importantly is proud of her body and what it has achieved. She isn't a gym bunny, doesn't wear make up or have perfect hair and nails. She lifts for health and welfare. She competes at BUCS. After training she will throw on a sweatshirt and pop over the road from the gym to Aldi to pick up dinner. Which is where you will see her out in the world as it were.

Disgusting and surely these men much know what’s happening!
Have a word with the teacher and ask them to speak to these men and tell them to dress appropriately.

Surely men are allowed to wear what they want as well, or do only women have this privilege.

Your average gym is usually mostly full of average looking people, wobbly bits and all, most of whom dont give a shit what you look like. I would say about 20% of the members at my gym are fairly hard-core training for a specific sport (rugby, hockey, triathlon etc) and look very fit and they don't give a shit what anyone else looks like either.

Superworm24 · 06/09/2024 08:48

Whenever I see men in their tight cycling lycra outfits I think "what utter sluts, they are definitely only wearing that to get the attention of women." And if we crash our cars into them then that completely their own faults for wearing such revealing outfits and distracting us. Surely baggy trousers and those little ankle ties would be fine.

Only joking, I always think they probably have a mumsnetter wife at home posting about their "time consuming hobby" without naming cycling because it's outing.

Starlight1979 · 06/09/2024 08:48

What does he want you to wear to the gym @GymRegret ?

Wonderful! What a lovely story & lucky DD who discovered lifting early. I started in my late 650s, and wished I'd started when I was 20. I hope she has a great time getting strong as F.

LlynTegid · 06/09/2024 08:52

I don't agree with the suggestion of the OPs DP.

Just seems to me another way that some women are hooked into spending money on something that looks stupid. 'Mug' was the term that used to be given.

Though not the only item of clothing that is ridiculous.

Lordofmyflies · 06/09/2024 08:53

They are known as "crack guzzlers" in our house!
I can't get excited about them either way - they seem to be fashionable amongst the 'youfs' at the moment but they are properly no more offensive then those tie dye tees that changed colour with sweat that I wore 30 years ago. It's a fad.

Mt61 · 06/09/2024 08:54

I think they are the most hellish looking gym pants on the planet, especially if someone with a big behind is wearing them. The lighter, nude colour, makes it look like the person is nude from the waist down 😩 maybe good for the male driver, as the driver behind me yesterday, nearly run into me on the school run, I expect he was distracted, but as women I have to divert my eyes as I am embarrassed for the person (yesterday young school girls) wearing them

whoamI00 · 06/09/2024 08:54

People, including women, are not as self-conscious as he thinks they are.
